8 ball Chip Tournament

Karl's Korner hosts a fast paced, player friendly 8 ball chip tournament that uses a losses format with players receiving 3 to 8 chips based on rank. Every match is a race to a single game. Players rack their own, and the break is decided by a flip or a lag. An 8 on the break does not count and is spotted right away. Call the 8 unless the pocket is obvious. Any foul gives ball in hand. Slow play is not allowed. Push shots are allowed, jumping is not, and there is no three foul rule. A Redemption Rack is in effect, which allows a player to attempt to match an opponent’s break and run to force a third game. Entry is $20, and an optional extra chip is available for $10. The field is capped at 40 and late entry is not accepted. All matches are reported to Fargo. A payout is available for the top female finisher when there are at least four female players, and a Break and Run pot is offered when the field reaches 20 players. Players who are not at their assigned table promptly may forfeit a chip and be moved to the end of the waiting list.

Poetry Reading with Millie Tullis: "These Saints are Stones"

A reading with poet Millie Tullis celebrates her new collection These Saints are Stones, with local poet Evelyn Berry also taking part. Tullis’s book follows a daughter who has lost her faith and is shadowed by her third-great-grandmother, Martha, a sixteen-year-old who married her stepfather and entered a plural marriage alongside her own mother. Because Martha left no written record, Tullis assembles a narrative from silence, fragments, and dreamlike recollections. The poems are lean and contemplative, attuned to the red desert where the speaker’s ancestors lived and died, as she searches the rocks for graves and faces a past that can never be fully recovered. It reflects on the record of women’s lives as a fabric that resembles lace, with more open space than stitch. Millie Tullis is a poet, editor, and researcher from northern Utah. She holds an MFA from George Mason University and an MA in American Studies and Folklore from Utah State University. Her work has appeared in Dialogist, Sugar House Review, Cimarron Review, Dialogue, Ninth Letter, and other outlets. Her digital micro-chapbook Dream With Teeth was published by Ghost City Press in 2023, and her research has earned recognition from the Utah Historical Society, the Folklore Society of Utah, and the American Folklore Society. She is editor in chief of Psaltery & Lyre and Exponent II. Evelyn Berry (she/her) is the author of Grief Slut from Sundress Publications in 2024 and the chapbooks T4T from Small Harbor Publishing in 2026 and Buggery from Bateau Press in 2020. Her honors include the National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellowship and the South Carolina Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellowship for Poetry, as well as awards such as the BOOM Chapbook Prize, Button Poetry Short Form Contest, the Dr. Linda Veldheer Memorial Prize, the KAKALAK Poetry Prize, the Emrys Poetry Prize, and the Broad River Prize for Prose.

Louder Than Silence

Spoken word artists and performers gather at the Columbia Museum of Art for a live program inspired by the spring exhibition Rodney McMillian: A Son of the Soil. Emceed by Columbia’s poet laureate, Jennifer Bartell Boykin, the event explores labor, power, and value while considering how race, class, and gender shape access to the American Dream. Selected artists share original work drawn from lived experience, highlighting invisible labor, economic survival, and the space between aspiration and reality. Language functions as both material and method, offering resistance, disruption, and truth in conversation with McMillian’s practice. Admission is free as part of Free First Thursday at the CMA, and visitors are encouraged to view the exhibition beforehand. This program is supported by the Art Bridges Access for All Program and Lexington Health. Artists interested in participating may submit original work for consideration through an online form. Thomas Crouch Opening Reception

Motor Supply hosts an opening reception for spring featured artist Thomas Crouch, celebrating an exhibition on view from April 7 through July 6. Crouch’s practice grows out of experiences in both rural and metropolitan settings, with studio work in Italy, New York, the Southwest, and the Deep South shaping a connection to the natural world. The artwork centers on process, building and removing layers to create a sense of tension between texture and form. Collage, acrylic, oil, ink, sandpaper, blueprints, tape, and putty knives are used to add and subtract material, leading to pieces that have evolved over time and are presented here in their finished state.

Tribute: A Celebration of The Allman Brothers AND The Core's, HORDE FESTIVAL REVIVAL!!! FREE SHOW!!

Steel Hands Brewing hosts a free night of live music featuring full headlining sets from Tribute: A Celebration of The Allman Brothers Band and The Core’s HORDE Festival Revival. Presented by Buchanan Construction Services and Steel Hands Brewing, the evening brings two perspectives on classic roots and jam scenes. Tribute is an eight-piece ensemble devoted to the music of The Allman Brothers Band. Formed in 2013 in Atlanta, the group is known across the Southeast for an authentic ABB sound. Their resume includes ten sold-out shows at City Winery along with standout appearances at Variety Playhouse, The Fox Theatre’s 40th Anniversary Block Party, The House of Blues, and numerous theaters and festivals. With veteran players, the band recalls the era when psychedelia waned and The Allman Brothers blended jazz, rock, country, and blues. The Core’s HORDE FESTIVAL REVIVAL rekindles the spirit of the 1990s HORDE tours, drawing from Widespread Panic, Dave Matthews Band, Phish, Blues Traveler, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, The Allman Brothers, Gov't Mule, Spin Doctors, and more. The set focuses on tracks from 1992 to 1998 and evokes a pre-digital vibe before cell phones and streaming.
