Sah-Hah-Lee Golf Course and Driving RangeMark Lewis / David Friesen in Portland
Seattle area saxophonist, flutist, and composer Mark Lewis brings his sound to Conway’s House of Jazz in Clackamas, performing with acclaimed bassist David Friesen. Over four decades, Lewis has energized jazz communities from Seattle and San Francisco to Rotterdam and Paris, creating more than 1,800 compositions. Recent honors include a Cadence Magazine Top Ten Critics Poll nod for the album Naked Animals, and #2 on alto sax plus #3 on flute in the 39th Annual Jazz Station Awards for The New York Session with George Cables, Essiet Essiet, and Victor Lewis. Critics have praised him as “a distinctive original” and “a Northwest treasure.” Despite serious visual impairment, he has continued to compose, perform across the U.S. and Europe, and produce recordings, including the final album by drummer Philly Joe Jones. Friesen, internationally recognized for a singular sound and a long, influential career, has performed and recorded with Dexter Gordon, Joe Henderson, and Chick Corea. His connection with Lewis began when a 22-year-old Lewis invited him to record, and they have continued to make music together ever since. Both are prolific composers who often showcase their own works, yet when they share the stage they frequently turn to jazz standards, interpreted in a way that is distinctly their own. There is no cover charge for the dinner show. For reservations, call 503-654-9000.

Happy Valley LibraryLook Back Lecture "First Fruits: The Lewellings and the Birth of the Pacific Coast Fruit Industry"
Author Linda Ziedrich traces the beginnings of the Pacific Coast fruit industry by following the Lewelling brothers, who in 1847 hauled a wagonload of young fruit trees from Iowa and planted the first orchard of grafted fruit in Oregon Country. The talk explores Henderson, Seth, and John not only as pioneering horticulturists but also as abolitionists, gold seekers, and Quakers who later embraced Spiritualism. Their stories include an attempt to establish a utopian community in Honduras, efforts to organize the Grange in California, and advocacy for democratic reforms in Oregon. Spanning a continent and nearly a century, their journeys illuminate westward expansion and the development of Oregon agriculture. Ziedrich writes about food from garden to table, food in history, and food across cultures. Her work includes books on food preservation as well as First Fruits: The Lewellings and the Birth of the Pacific Coast Fruit Industry from Oregon State University Press and The Curious Kitchen Gardener from Timber Press. She also serves as vice president of the Lebanon Museum Foundation, where she recently led an oral history project, and as president of the Linn County Cultural Coalition. HarefestCanby Repair Fair
A no-cost community repair gathering at Canby Public Library invites people to bring household goods for troubleshooting and, when possible, fixes by skilled volunteers. It offers a chance to learn repair techniques, save money, and keep usable items out of the trash. Commonly accepted items include clean clothing and other textiles, small electronic devices, and compact home appliances, though services available can vary by event. To confirm whether a specific item can be repaired, email sustainability@clackamas.us with a brief description, as the event page is not always monitored. To help keep lines moving, only one broken item per person is examined at a time. After an item is assessed or repaired, return to the registration table to be paired with another fixer. If a repair takes longer than 30 minutes, it may be postponed. Certain items cannot be accepted, including anything too heavy for one person to carry, microwaves, printers, DVD players, VCRs, televisions, large appliances, items containing coolant or gasoline or other hazardous materials, and unwashed clothing. Upon arrival, check in at the front desk and complete a liability waiver. Your item may be placed on a hold table for fixers to evaluate, and items are generally taken in the order received, with occasional adjustments to match each volunteer’s skills. Plan to stay with your item, since leaving may result in losing your place. While a successful repair is not guaranteed, volunteers will make a strong effort to help.
