Art Class: Studio Materials Exploration

Hosted at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, this four-session studio class invites young artists ages 8 to 12 to discover how different materials can shape ideas in art. Teaching Artist Jackie Nelson leads hands-on activities that build observation skills and encourage thoughtful creative choices. Each meeting focuses on a single medium. With clay, participants use a variety of building methods and surface textures to craft a small sculpture. With acrylic paint, they layer color to achieve depth and transparent effects. With oil pastels, they try resist techniques and create bold contrasts of light and shadow. With ink, they explore expressive lines and how marks can suggest movement and feeling. Enrollment is limited to 12 students. One registration covers all four sessions and cannot be prorated for missed classes. All supplies are provided, and students may bring snacks and drinks. Two OKCMOA staff members will be present throughout each class. Authorized adults must check students in and out at the Theater Lobby desk. Tuition is $100 for members and $140 for non-members. For questions about the class or registration, contact Programs Manager Neely Simms at nsimms@okcmoa.com.

Watercolor Summer Class ALL AGES

Small group watercolor classes welcome artists of all ages for a four week series focused on creativity and technique. Each session features a fresh project, including still life studies with brushes, a folk art style fox, layered sea life in watercolor with Posca accents, and neurographic art. Participants also explore a whimsical cat gazing at a fish with an emphasized eye, paint tranquil water scenes, and practice methods like wet on dry and salt texture effects, with additional activities woven throughout the course. If participants finish early, there is time to sketch, add to a collaborative art wall, or spend a moment in the hideaway room. Dates can be selected during registration.
