Marking its 15th anniversary, this three day celebration of Slavic heritage fills The Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre with music, dance, food, and community spirit representing 14 Slavic nations. Live performances span traditional tamburitza and folk ensembles to lively polka and contemporary bands. Featured artists include Od Srca Adult Tamburitzans, Veseljaci, Noćne Sove Tamburitza Orchestra, Living Traditions Folk Ensemble, Radost, Selo Croatian Ensemble, ZAPS, Harmonia, The Chardon Polka Band, Mon Valley Push, No Funk No Justice, Bob and Brian, Sokyra, Da Polka Bums, Mikey Dee, and more. Presented by South Side Academy, this inaugural Christmas in July celebration brings Youngstown its first Toys for Autographs showcase for trading cards, comics, and collectibles at St. Patrick’s Church Hall. The event welcomes collectors, vendors, athletes, gamers, comic enthusiasts, and families, offering a full day built around hobby fun and a holiday toy drive that connects donated toys with autograph opportunities from athletes. Expect sports card sellers, athlete signings, comic books and related collectibles, raffles and giveaways, and plenty of buying, selling, and trading, alongside gaming demonstrations and tabletop play spaces. Organizers are also working with a local gaming company to host dedicated tables and provide tutorials for young players who want to learn tabletop and trading card games. Vendor opportunities are available for sports card and comic sellers, memorabilia dealers, and gaming vendors or hobby shops, with the first table priced at $25 and each additional table secured by contributing a new, unopened toy valued at $10 to $15. Athletes are invited to meet fans, sign, and support a community-focused cause, while collectors can search for elusive cards, complete comic runs, make trades, and connect with fellow hobbyists from across the region. Built as a first-year effort with an eye toward becoming a Mahoning Valley favorite, the event aims to fill the room with hobby energy and fill toy bins that will brighten holiday wish lists for local families.

All tools and mounting materials are provided, and step-by-step guidance is available, so no prior experience is needed. On average, every dollar raised can eliminate one hundred dollars of medical debt, turning collective effort into real relief for families in the community.

Misty Blues brings a performance of original and traditional blues to Westside Bowl, colored by touches of jazz, soul, funk, and revival-style gospel. Tickets are $5 in advance and $15 on the day of the show. A finalist at the 2019 International Blues Challenge, the band is led by singer and founder Gina Coleman and has been active since 1999 from its base in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. The group has recorded with Eric Gales, Charles Neville, and Joe Louis Walker, and has shared stages with Mike Zito, Albert Castiglia, Tab Benoit, James Montgomery, John Primer, Roomful of Blues, Albert Cummings, and Michael Powers. Their work has reached audiences across New England and on tours throughout the continental United States, Canada, and the UK, earning Independent Blues Music Award nominations and broad airplay across 17 albums. In 2024, one of their songs was selected for use in a U.S. Presidential campaign advertisement. Coleman's path to the blues followed early years fronting the folk rock group Cole-Connection, then a turn as a gospel singer in the Williamstown Theatre Festival production of A Raisin in the Sun alongside Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Viola Davis, Kimberly Elise, and Gloria Foster. With encouragement from Santiago-Hudson and inspired by the blues collection Men Are Like Streetcars, she launched Misty Blues, a project that has endured for a quarter century. The band is featured in the documentary Silver Lining, which was selected by the Boston International Film Festival, and its core lineup includes Coleman with Seth Fleischmann, Rob Tatten, Aaron Dean, and Diego Mongue.

Delaney Mathew will co-host, and an open mic will follow the featured readers. The program takes place downstairs in the Trophy Room, which is accessible only by stairs. ASL interpretation will be provided by Meagan Albani. Support for the series comes from POP! Art Books Culture. Meredith Doench is the author of the Luce Hansen sapphic thriller series and the stand-alone novels Whereabouts Unknown and Never Say Die. She is an avid armchair detective and amateur web sleuth who loves all things mystery, serves on the board of Mystery Writers of America, Midwest Chapter, and is a principal lecturer of creative writing and literature at the University of Dayton in Ohio. Erin Flanagan is the author of five books, including Deer Season, winner of the 2022 Edgar for Best First Novel, and the more recent Come with Me. She has held fellowships at the Bread Loaf and Sewanee Writers’ Conferences, Yaddo, and the MacDowell Colony, and is a professor at Wright State. Upcoming readings in this series at Westside Bowl are slated to feature Becca J.R.
