Standup Basics: Comedy Writing Workshop with Bill Squire — Imposters Theater - Home for Alternative Comedy and Other Nonsense

Comedian Bill Squire, who has been in comedy for over 20 years, will be teaching the basics of writing and performing Stand-up Comedy. This 4-week workshop will help newer comedians to get a jump start on what it takes to write, perform, and get booked to perform stand-up comedy. This workshop is ideal for absolute beginners and those newer to stand up. Bill will cover topics such as etiquette and joke structure, and there will be guided writing exercises. The workshop ends in a showcase hosted by Bill, where everyone will perform a 3-5 minute set. This is part of the Comedy Basics series.

(AMERICA 250) From Garford to Fords: Prosperity and Crisis in the Lorain County Auto Industry

As part of the America 250 commemoration that highlights Ohio’s history with monthly themes, this program explores the Lorain County auto industry, tracing its path from the early Garford years to the Ford era and periods of prosperity and crisis. This six week trivia league at Two Bucks Avon brings teams of up to eight together for weekly battles featuring fresh themes, food specials, and chances to win. It is free to join and is hosted by EnterShanement, which has been serving up trivia at Two Bucks for more than nine years. Each week introduces new categories spanning movies, music, science, sports, and the wonderfully weird, along with $10 burgers and sandwiches and $75 in prizes. At the end of the league, top teams take home grand prizes, including $222 in cash for first place, a $50 gift card for second, and a $25 gift card for third. Arrive early for the best seating.

Ziggy’s hosts a give back day for the South Amherst Historical Society. Both dine in and carry out orders count toward the effort, and funds grow with every purchase. To have 15 percent of the total check benefit the organization, tell the Ziggy’s staff that you are there to support the South Amherst Historical Society. Owl Planter Paint + Sip at Unplugged Brewing Co.

Enjoy a paint and sip experience at Unplugged Brewing Co. Guided by artist Cory, participants begin with a ceramic owl planter and choose from four owl designs. Use acrylic paints from a wide color palette, including metallics, as Cory demonstrates techniques and you customize colors and details. After painting, a sealant is applied to protect the artwork and add shine. The finished planter measures about 3 by 3 by 4 inches, a handy size for a shelf, end table, or desk. The session concludes with planting, with a couple of plant options to create a fun owl hairstyle. Each person also receives a wood slice coaster for display, which you may paint to match. A ticket includes all materials to paint and plant one owl, instruction, and a first drink. Before heading out, care tips are provided so you know how to place and water your new plant.

The Fantasticks

At Stocker Arts Center in the Cirigliano Studio Theatre, this co-production with the LCCC Arts & Humanities Department presents a staging of The Fantasticks as part of Arts & Humanities Division performances and Broadway Sessions. With book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, the production is directed by Joanna Cullinan with musical direction by Anthony Trifiletti. The story centers on a young couple and their two fathers who try to keep them apart, guided by the narrator El Gallo, who encourages the use of imagination. The couple experiences first love, separation, and a return to one another with a more mature understanding of love. Celebrated as the world’s longest running musical, this intimate presentation features simple costumes, a small musical ensemble, and minimal scenery to highlight the storytelling and ensemble cast. The score includes memorable songs that have become classics. Preview general admission is $15. Multiple performance dates are scheduled. The Fantasticks is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International, with authorized performance materials supplied by MTI.

Paint Your Pet Workshop 🐾🎨

BTA Park Madness Bowling Tournament

At Park Lanes in Amherst, a 32‑bowler field competes on a single custom oil pattern to crown one champion. This debut signature tournament from BTA Bowling is built by bowlers for bowlers and showcases the 8:1 BTA Bourbon pattern. It rewards precise shot‑making and steady execution from the first frame to the last, yet remains very scorable so everyone can enjoy the challenge. The event is sanctioned by The Sport of Bowling USBC, and all required standards and rules will be in effect. Competition begins with a three‑game qualifier, then the top 16 advance to head‑to‑head bracket play. From there it is single elimination, so survive each match to move on. The path is simple… qualify, make the cut, endure each round, and finish on top. Payouts reach the top six, with $700 to the winner. The top seed earns an additional $100, the second seed receives $50, high game pays $50, and high scratch series pays $50. Scratch and handicap side brackets are available for $5, and there will be additional prizes and awards throughout the tournament. Entry is $75, handicap is 80% of 220, and the field is capped at 32 competitors. The champion takes home the BTA Park Madness Championship Belt. The tournament will also feature the official introduction of BTA staffers, along with professional photography and videography so participants receive high‑quality media from the day.

Community Garden Build Day

Parents, families, and community members in Lorain are coming together to help build a new community garden created by FUNdamental Learning Center in partnership with Lorain Urban Solidarity Farms. Participants will assemble garden beds, plant fruits and vegetables, and install fencing and posts. The garden is designed as a hands-on learning space where children can learn to grow food, cook with what they harvest, and sell their produce, helping build life skills, entrepreneurship, and a stronger community. Michael Cavanaugh brings a night of favorites from Paul Simon, James Taylor, and Neil Diamond to Stocker Arts Center. The pianist and singer first rose to prominence when Billy Joel chose him for the lead in the Broadway production Movin’ Out, a role that led to Grammy and Tony nominations and more than 1,200 performances. Since then he has toured widely, earning praise as a standout interpreter of the American rock and roll songbook. This Stocker Event Series performance highlights his piano-driven take on classic hits by three iconic singer songwriters. Seating is reserved in the Hoke Theatre. Tickets are $40 for the Orchestra and $35 for the Mezzanine, and same-day purchases cost $2 more.

Lorain County Climate & Community Conversation returns to share what residents across Lorain County reported about flooding, infrastructure challenges, air quality, and other environmental health concerns. At Lorain County Public Health, the discussion will walk through community-identified concerns and recent climate and environmental trends, explain how these insights inform regional planning, and outline next steps. The gathering is free and open to the public, with refreshments provided. It is part of a regional initiative supported by the NOAA Climate Resilience Regional Challenge.

This 1940s inspired tea gathering at Amherst Historical Society honors Victory in Europe Day. FAPL 5k and 1-Mile Dog Walk

La Fleur de la Renaissance

At First Lutheran Church, the choir brings its 11th season to a close with La Fleur de la Renaissance, a program devoted to French Renaissance masters. The performance immerses listeners in the vibrant textures of Renaissance polyphony, featuring music by Guillaume Dufay and Josquin des Prez. Dufay’s trailblazing approach to sacred music meets Josquin’s expressive nuance and finely crafted technique, illuminating how their work helped shape the musical language of the 15th and early 16th centuries. A pre-concert talk by Charles Edward McGuire, PhD, of Oberlin College & Conservatory, offers added historical insight. Spring Series Non-Sorrca Rock Comp #2

The second event in the spring series features a Non-Sorrca rock crawling competition with Class 2 and Class 3 confirmed, and Class 1 possible depending on interest. Class 2 courses span 30 gates, while Class 3 and any Class 1 courses are set at 20 gates. Rock Dock daily admission is 10 dollars, with no additional charge per class for the competition. Class 3 follows Non-Sorrca guidelines including a maximum of two axles with no motor on axle. Labeled tires must measure between 4.76 and 6 inches and pin tires are not allowed. Vehicles must use a frame rail or tube chassis. Class 2 requires a frame width front bumper and a flat or C channel chassis. Chassis frame rails must be at least one inch longer than the wheelbase. Two axles are allowed with no MOA and no rear steer. Labeled tires may be up to 4.75 inches and wheels up to 2.2 inches. Class 1 allows labeled tires up to 4.19 inches and requires a chassis mounted servo. Bodies and bumpers must be full width, at least as wide as the inside track width of the tires. A flat or C channel chassis with a flat skid is required. Two axles are allowed with no MOA and no rear steer. Scoring uses updated points that will be reviewed on site. A reverse adds 1 point, using a winch adds 3, a rollover adds 5, using a kinetic bungee adds 6, touching a gate marker adds 10, a reposition or hand of god adds 10, a forward reposition adds 20, and any gates not completed within the time limit add 20.

A Mother's Day farm market hosted by LCLH is set at South Amherst Community Park. The event will be held regardless of weather and already has over twenty vendors, with the lineup continuing to grow. Vendor registration is open to the public for homemade products, and MLMs are not accepted. Because there are many bread makers and other cottage bakers already participating, new applicants in those categories may be placed on a waitlist. After registering, vendors receive an invoice for the vendor fee and have two weeks from the invoice date to submit payment to secure their spot.

Roll into Summer - Retro Cookie Decorating Class

Learn cookie decorating in a relaxed, beginner friendly class at Unplugged Brewing Co. Participants practice step by step techniques while finishing six vanilla almond sugar cookies, with all supplies provided. Open to ages 12 and up, and anyone ages 12 to 15 must attend with an adult. The retro themed set welcomes patio season and is the final class before a summer break. Tai Chi

This is a donation-based Tai Chi class that occurs all year round, except when schools are closed due to inclement weather or during winter holiday closures. Hosted by Lorain Co. Homeschoolers Network, this book and curriculum sale uses a simple table format. Buyers enter free, while sellers can rent a spot for $10. Each reservation includes one 8 foot folding table and two chairs, with sellers setting up their own displays and handling transactions. A designated area near the double doors is set aside for bulky items such as desks, tables, and bookshelves; label these with your name and leave space for your table number. Curriculum, books, and other educational resources are welcome. Unsold items remain the seller’s responsibility, and anything left behind will be donated. Table renters have access to a designated free section, and drop off donations are not accepted. The rental fee also helps cover advertising, the venue, set up and clean up, and event logistics like parking, entrance, and registration. Additional chairs may be available. The dinner features a quarter chicken served with dumplings and gravy plus two stuffed cabbage rolls for $22, and you can choose white or dark meat. Extra gravy may be added with a dinner if available. Additional options include a 1-pound container of dumplings with gravy for $10 and a 1-pound container of haluska for $10. Assorted homemade baked goods will also be for sale. Advance ordering is required. He is also known as The Professor of Classic Rock on YouTube, where he breaks down influential music from the 1970s.

Designed for ages 5 and up, this weeklong art camp celebrates pets of all kinds through hands-on creativity and storytelling. Rockin' On The River at Black River Landing presents a show with free parking and straightforward gate entry. JAM Dance Academy 2026 Spring Student Showcase

JAM Dance Academy’s spring student showcase takes the stage at Elyria High School Performing Arts Center. The program highlights what dancers have developed over the past year, celebrating progress since last season, and it will feature a few surprise performances. Tickets for adults and for children ages 10 and up are $25 per person with all-level seating. Day-of-event pricing is $28 for all ages. Students and seniors 65 and older are $23 per person. The Secret Garden

Part of Broadway Sessions in the Stocker Event Series, this musical staging of The Secret Garden brings Frances Hodgson Burnett’s beloved novel to life at Hoke Theatre. With book and lyrics by Marsha Norman and music by Lucy Simon, the production is directed by Joanna May Cullinan with music direction by Anthony Trifiletti. The story follows Mary Lennox, an orphan sent from India to live with her withdrawn uncle Archibald and his son Colin in Yorkshire. The Taste of History 2026

Admission is free for this timeline-style living history showcase at Sandstone Village, which explores the rations and meals that sustained soldiers across different eras. Representations from all periods and sides appear, from military units to home front roles and camp followers. Field kitchens compete and share samples of historical dishes in exchange for attendee donations. The program features static exhibits, firing demonstrations, military surplus sellers, activities for children, and more. About 5,000 people attended the previous edition, and an even larger turnout is anticipated for the next. Reenactor and field kitchen registration is free, and vendor registration is $75. Presented in partnership with Lorain County Visitors Bureau, Amherst VFW Post 1662, Military History Preservation Group, and the Amherst Historical Society.

Avon Lake Summerfest - The Diamond Project

Celebrate summer and America’s upcoming 250th birthday with a festive evening at Miller Road Park featuring live music, food, drinks, and games. The Diamond Project, an energetic Neil Diamond tribute, will perform well known hits made for singing along and dancing. Savor main course options from Jones Bones BBQ and CLE Chicken, then cool off with treats from 808 Shave Ice and Koojay’s Lemon Co. Beer and wine will be available through partnerships with John Christ Winery and Laughing Bomb Brewery. Expect contests, games, and kids’ activities with an American theme for a full night of music, tasty bites, and fun for all ages.

Lake Erie Crushers baseball game fundraiser

A family-friendly evening at the ballpark features a Lake Erie Crushers game in support of a fundraiser, complete with fireworks and a 50/50 raffle. In collaboration with Fido's Companion Rescue, adoptable dogs from the partnering rescues will be at the game to meet. Corporate groups can access bulk ticket perks with optional add-on food or beverage vouchers, and purchases of 50 or more tickets include having the company name shown on the scoreboard. Participation and prizes for the 50/50 raffle do not require being present.

Rat Pack Together Again

This musical production celebrates the Rat Pack, spotlighting Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr., backed by an eight-piece band. The performance features Sinatra favorites like Come Fly With Me, My Way, and New York, Dean Martin standards including Everybody Loves Somebody and That's Amore, and Sammy Davis Jr. highlights such as Mr. Bojangles and Candy Man. The New York Post praised the show for lush, skillfully crafted vocals and arrangements that fill the room with beautiful sound.

Coffee & Conversation at Magdalen's Gallery + Espresso brings people together to support downtown businesses and organizations while connecting with neighbors, community leaders, business owners, and volunteers from Main Street Lorain. This monthly gathering welcomes everyone and provides time to meet new people and strengthen community ties.

Country singer and actor John “Bo Duke” Schneider takes the stage with The Good Ole Boys for a concert built on decades of hits and screen fame. Schneider began building his audience at 18 and now counts more than five million followers on social media. Across a career spanning more than 40 years, he has released nine studio albums, a greatest hits collection, and 18 singles that landed on the Billboard country charts. His profile soared through television and film, especially as Bo Duke on The Dukes of Hazzard, which aired on CBS from 1979 to 1985 and ranked just behind Dallas in the ratings. Fans also know him as Jonathan Kent on Smallville and as James “Jim” Cryer on Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots. He will be joined on stage by friends Cody McCarver, formerly with the country supergroup Confederate Railroad, and Keith Burns, a founder of the platinum selling group Trick Pony.

Lorain International Festival 2026 - Back 2 The Future '80s Tribute

Back 2 The Future, a Cleveland '80s tribute band, brings the neon era to Black River Landing as part of the Lorain International Festival. Expect faithful takes on hits by Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Bon Jovi, Journey, and more, spanning glossy synth pop and soaring rock ballads. Celebrate the festival's 58th year with a nostalgic, high energy show that channels the artists and sounds that defined the decade. Admission is $3.

Art Camp Wk 4 • Boho & Bold • Ages 8+

Designed for ages 8 and up, this boho-inspired art camp invites young artists to explore texture and relaxed design through weaving, beading, fiber techniques, and nature-based projects, all with take-home creations. 16th Annual Kerstetter 5K

In March 2010, the community lost James A. Kerstetter, a devoted son, husband, father, friend, and police officer. Later that summer, a 5K was created to honor his memory and carry forward his legacy. Sixteen years on, the Kerstetter 5K stands as a gathering focused on unity, remembrance, and community support, embraced by many individuals and organizations. Awards will be presented to the top overall male and female finishers. Placer medals will recognize the top three in each age group, including 17 and under, 18 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 64, and 65 and up.

Nomad Soul Acoustic Duo

Nomad Soul Acoustic Duo returns to the patio at Mulligan's Pub in Avon with a laid-back acoustic performance spanning favorites from the early 1970s through the 2000s. The set features songs by Stevie Nicks and the Grateful Dead, and the duo welcomes requests.

Avon Lake Summer Concert - Audiophile

A summer concert at Miller Road Park features live music from Audiophile, delivering energetic, soulful takes on classic hits and modern favorites that invite singing and dancing. The main food truck, Original Steaks & Hoagies, will be on site, and Kona Ice will serve chilled treats for all ages. Blankets or lawn chairs are recommended for comfortable seating while enjoying music, food, and a relaxed park setting.

The Elyria Summer Concert Series continues at Ely Square in Elyria with a live performance from Tarp, keeping the momentum going with music geared for a fun atmosphere.

Reelin for a Reason Women's Walleye Tournament

Women anglers take the spotlight at this inaugural charity walleye tournament at Lorain Harbor Boat Club. Teams made up of one to four women compete for the best five-fish total, then gather for a festive celebration with food, music, raffles, and awards. Proceeds support Lorain County Safe Harbor and the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center. Boat registration is $100 and includes after-party access. All anglers on board must be women, with up to two men allowed to serve as captain and first mate. Men may navigate, rig gear, set lines, and unhook fish once landed, however only women may reel in and net fish for a catch to qualify. A mandatory captain’s meeting is held at the club in advance, where one representative per boat reviews safety procedures and tournament rules and picks up team materials. On tournament day, fishing takes place within a defined window and concludes with weigh-in at the Lorain Harbor Boat Club, alongside a catered luncheon, raffles, and the awards ceremony. Each team presents its five largest walleye by weight, following State of Ohio DNR regulations that require a minimum length of 15 inches. Trophies go to the top three teams by total weight, and a $1,000 Big Fish prize is awarded for the heaviest single walleye. Boats may launch from locations throughout Lorain Harbor. For safety, a minimum of four hours of fishing is required to complete the event. If weather prevents that window, tournament fishing is canceled while the luncheon and after-party continue as planned, and all entry fees remain donations to the beneficiaries.

Summer Vibes Market

The second annual Summer Vibes Market brings a day of cheerful browsing and community spirit focused on local small businesses. Explore more than 30 vendors offering handcrafted items, one-of-a-kind gifts, tasty treats, and other finds. Donations collected at the entrance will benefit Blessing House.
