The group is led by bassist Larry Lee, whose 16-year NFL career included playing for the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, and Denver Broncos with an appearance in Super Bowl XXII, followed by serving as Vice President of the Detroit Lions, alongside an accomplished life as a professional musician. Gears & Cheers is a kid-focused cycling event that encourages children of every ability to ride with purpose. From little ones in strollers to new riders and experienced neighborhood cyclists, participants follow a safe, age-appropriate course and aim to complete as many laps as possible. Families gather per-lap pledges or flat donations, and 100 percent of funds raised support Pelotonia Kids and pediatric cancer research at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Children register, ride laps on a designated track, and see their effort translate into funding for research. Hosted by Gears & Beers, a local peloton that rides in Pelotonia to raise money for cancer research, this event returns for a second year.

This practical shooting competition will challenge intermediate shooters due to the firearm transitions and varying target distances. Lima Sabres Shooting Association will create scenarios that test your ability to switch platforms quickly and maintain composure while moving between rifle, shotgun, and pistol within the same stage.

Get an early look at the newest Pokémon TCG expansion, Pitch Black, at an official prerelease tournament featuring sealed deck play. The entry fee is $25. Each participant receives a Pokémon Pitch Black Build & Battle Kit, a ready-to-play 40-card deck, and four additional Pitch Black booster packs to enhance their build. There is no need to bring a deck, because everything needed to play is provided. Players will have 20 minutes for deck construction before matches begin, followed by three to four rounds of Swiss play based on attendance. Every participant will receive three more Pitch Black booster packs at the end. Space may be limited.

All ages are welcome at this community drum circle focused on shared rhythm and spontaneous music-making. Bring a drum or any instrument you enjoy, or use from the selection of percussion instruments available to share. Members Meeting and Public Stargaze

The Lima Astronomical Society hosts its monthly members meeting, followed by a program and public stargazing when weather allows. The meeting usually lasts about an hour or less before transitioning to the program. Visitors are asked to sign the guest log upon arrival. Both the meeting and program are open to the public, welcoming anyone curious about astronomy or interested in the Society. If skies are clear, public observing at Schoonover Observatory includes views through the dome telescope and time on the upper deck to learn constellations, look for planets, and watch for satellites. No experience is required, and observers of all levels are welcome. Attendees may bring their own telescope for assistance, and the gathering offers an opportunity to learn more about the organization.

Dakota Mathias Basketball Camp 2026 - ELIDA

Now in its ninth year, the Dakota Mathias Basketball Camp centers on fun and fundamentals while helping players build all-around skills. Campers spend each day in a mix of instruction, drills, and games that cover dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, guard work, and post play. The coaching team features Dakota Mathias alongside current professional athletes and current and former college players, bringing experience that spans the NBA, high-level international competition, and Division I programs. Every participant receives an exclusive 2026 camp T-shirt, a premium indoor and outdoor basketball, and a signed photo featuring the camper with Dakota. A meet and greet autograph session follows Day 2. The camp is known for a well-run, high-energy atmosphere with thoughtful touches like popsicles at the end of each day.

This program at Lima Public Library explores a little known 1864 plot in which Confederate agents operating from Canada aimed to capture a Union warship on Lake Erie. It covers the lead-up to the scheme, what transpired, and the aftermath, and it also highlights other unusual episodes from the Civil War.

Anti-Violence Teen Summer Retreat

The third annual Anti-Violence Teen Summer Retreat focuses on restorative justice within the community, creating a supportive space for local teens to build relationships, strengthen leadership skills, and practice self and peer advocacy. Participants develop peer mediation abilities and connect with community partners through engaging activities. Designed for students ages 13 to 17, the retreat includes lunch each day. It aligns with Crime Victim Services’ Teen Ambassador Program, which equips youth with leadership and community mobilization skills in collaboration with the agency’s prevention efforts. The registration fee is $40 and covers all materials and meals, with both full and partial scholarships available at registration.

Community Drum Circle: Take One Leave One

A family-friendly drum circle at Ottawa Metro Park welcomes everyone to create music together through spontaneous rhythms. Their focus is on preserving the fine points of the songs while sharing the narratives with conviction, highlighting tight grooves, layered vocal harmonies, close ensemble interplay, and introspective lead vocals that reflect the essence of these recordings.

Members Meeting and Public Stargaze

Members of the Lima Astronomical Society gather for their monthly meeting, followed by a program and, weather permitting, a public stargazing session. Visitors are asked to sign the guest log upon arrival. These meetings and programs welcome anyone interested in astronomy or in learning about the Society. When skies cooperate, observing takes place at Schoonover Observatory using the telescope in the dome, with additional time on the upper deck to explore constellations, point out planets, and look for passing satellites. No prior experience is necessary, and participants of all skill levels are welcome. Attendees may bring a personal telescope for troubleshooting and tips, and the evening also offers a chance to discover more about the organization.
