Woodland Cemetery and ArboretumGem City Pinball League - Season 17
Gem City Pinball League offers weekly competitive play at Canal Street Arcade and Deli. Participation requires a one-time $20 fee per session, plus coin drop each week. Players meet on Mondays and are paired in groups of three or four to play four randomly selected machines, earning points based on placement. The season runs for eight weeks of regular play followed by two nights of finals. Overall standings determine placement into A or B finals, and every participant qualifies for one of these tournaments. Finals formats and rules may be adjusted to fit league needs and the number of players. Consistent attendance is important. There are no makeups, but each player has one drop week, so the lowest weekly score is removed from the season total. Missing three weeks results in removal from current season rankings and disqualification from that season’s finals, though players may still attend for the remainder of the season without scores being recorded and can return officially next season if space is available. Participants are asked to check in on Mondays to confirm whether they will be playing. Respectful conduct is required. Disrespect toward others or arguing with league officials over rulings can lead to disqualification or removal. Mechanical issues are part of pinball, and decisions to pause, restart, or shut down a game are final. The focus is on fair play, clear rules, and an enjoyable experience for everyone.

Kohan’s Sacred Art Pilgrim Collection, a gift to the Marian Library. Together, these exhibitions connect contemporary artistic voices with the rich symbolic language that has long surrounded this pivotal biblical scene.
Call for Art: Part of the 2026 FOTOFOCUS Biennial: "Luminous Flow: Time Made Visible"
The Dayton Society of Artists invites photographers to submit work for Luminous Flow: Time Made Visible, a juried exhibition focused on long exposure imagery and the ways photography can convey time, motion, and transformation. Using approaches such as shutter drag and extended exposures, the theme embraces techniques that record movement beyond what the eye can perceive, where water reads as silk, clouds stretch into soft streams, and light becomes vivid trails that suggest memory and movement. Rather than a single split second, the exhibition treats the medium as a means to depict time itself. The juror is Gregory Changa, a digital fine art photographer and writer with regional exhibitions that include FotoFocus Biennial: Backstories, the Dayton Art Institute, and the Edward A. Dixon Gallery. He serves on the Boards of Trustees of the Montgomery County Arts and Culture District and the Dayton Art Institute. There is no entry fee, and the opportunity is open to photographers working in long exposure photography. Full submission guidelines are available from the Dayton Society of Artists.

Purely for fun, with plenty of laughs along the way.

Carillon Historical ParkNicole Ryan Author Signing
Nicole Ryan appears for a signing of her new contemporary cozy romantasy, The Thistlewood Rewrite. Set in a village caught in a golden season that never seems to fade, the story follows Eloise Quinn, an apothecary whose remedies always seem to help and who once carried a reputation for witchcraft. She shares a steady life with Ezra Ashby, a patient and dependable presence, until opening her heart causes the fabric of her world to waver. Leaves linger unnaturally, shadows shift, and each night a stranger steps into her dreams with a touch that feels real and a name she cannot quite remember. As the boundary between memory and dreaming thins, cracks spread through Thistlewood’s perpetual autumn, pushing Eloise to confront the calm surface and the truth hidden beneath it. What she uncovers suggests the life she knows was never meant to be, and the revelation could unspool everything. This signing shines a light on a tender and uncanny love story where some affections bring comfort while others refuse to let go.

Freakin Rican Carryout & CateringJuly Beer Crawl Book Club!
Beer Crawl Book Club meets at Loose Ends Brewery to discuss Japanese Gothic by Kylie Lee Baker, a USA TODAY bestseller and one of the year’s most anticipated releases recognized by the New York Times, USA TODAY, Goodreads readers, and Book Riot. This lyrical horror novel draws on Japanese mythology and connects two lives separated by centuries through a mysterious doorway. In 2026, Lee Turner escapes to his father’s home in Japan after a killing he cannot clearly remember, where strange occurrences cluster around a house screened by sword ferns and wild ginger. In 1877, Sen, a young samurai in exile, hides from imperial soldiers in a similar refuge while confronting a war-twisted figure wearing her father’s face and the devastating choices she is willing to make. One narrator is a ghost and one account is false, and something beneath the fern-ringed house binds their stories. The conversation suits readers who enjoy Grady Hendrix and Stephen King, Japanese mythology, themes of friendship and family, intense and gory horror with heart, and a fresh take on the haunted house. Copies are available in store or online.

Tastefully Roasted CoffeeBasic Shamanic Journeying Series Part 1
This first session in a two-part, in-person series introduces the core practice of the shamanic spirit journey. Shamanism is presented as a practice that complements, rather than replaces, existing spiritual paths and is open to people from all backgrounds. Through guided journeys and gentle trance states, participants learn to focus inward and engage directly with personal spirit allies and helpers, blending the intention of prayer with the receptive focus of meditation. Instruction covers foundational skills such as grounding, centering, and shielding, along with ally retrieval, individual and group journeys, walking journeys, and dreamtime explorations. Practical integration into daily life is emphasized. By the end of the course, participants aim to understand the purpose of journeying, enter and conclude journeys with confidence, use rhythmic sound to support the work, connect with at least one spirit ally, retrieve an ally and healing insights for themselves or another, explore the layers of the shamanic landscape, and gain perspective on the history and anthropology of this practice across cultures. Benefits can include a direct relationship with allies, tools for personal healing and guidance, expanded spiritual awareness, clearer boundaries, and added depth to existing practices. Journeying is offered as support for the mind, body, and spirit and does not replace science-based or other healing modalities. The series includes two in-person learning and practice sessions, a recorded informational video, and a small amount of homework between meetings to help integrate the skills. Instruction is led by Michelle Sampson, who has practiced journeying since 1998, completed advanced study with Bekki and Crow at Dragonwaters in 2000, and finished teacher certification training with Bekki in 2019. Her learning has also been shaped by teachers including the late Miss Beatrice Waight, Wendell Humphrey, Sarangarel, and Ramón López. Experience in theatre design and technology and in both elementary and post-secondary education informs her teaching approach. With roots in a Midwestern blue collar upbringing and ancestry that includes Welsh, Irish, Orcadian, and Hebridean lineages, she practices core shamanism and works within those cosmologies as well as those of the individuals she serves.
