🐾 LI DOG Pack Walk™ at Blydenburgh County Park! 🐾

LI-DOG is hosting a friendly group on-leash dog walk at Blydenburgh County Park in Smithtown, a 627-acre Suffolk County park with a large dog park and miles of dog-friendly trails. The route is a shorter 45 to 60 minute out-and-back on a mostly flat trail of dirt or sand that is well shaded by trees. The main loop around Stump Pond is six miles, and the pond is currently dry because of a dam break, so this plan avoids narrow paths and keeps the walk accessible for most dogs and their people. Meet on the grass beside the boat launch parking area after entering the park from Veterans Memorial Highway and following the paved road to the left-hand turn for the lot. Dogs must remain on leash at all times, and retractable leashes are not permitted. Bring water for yourself and your dog, even though there is water available near the parking lot. Carry poop bags and clean up after your pup. Use tick preventatives, and be prepared for the possibility of horses or the occasional off-leash dog on the trail. Arriving a little early allows time to sign in. Check for any weather-related updates before heading out.

Making Long Island: A History of Growth and the American Dream with Lawrence R. Samuel

Author, cultural historian, and Long Island native Lawrence R. Samuel presents a talk on how Long Island changed across the 20th century, growing increasingly independent from New York City and evolving into a more self-sustaining place with its own hurdles, exclusions, and milestones. Drawing from his 2023 book Making Long Island: A History of Growth and the American Dream, he traces the region’s trajectory from land booms and the growth of Levittown to the aspirations and complications of the suburban ideal. This program is included with museum admission, and space is limited so registration is requested.
