Sydney Sterlace & Crikwater

Music in the Park brings together rising Buffalo singer-songwriter Sydney Sterlace and the Irish-American folk group Crikwater for a community-focused concert. Open to all ages, with local beer and food available, this event is free to attend and set up to benefit and support the local community. Sydney Sterlace began singing early in life, started formal lessons at seven, and built a reputation performing around her hometown. At 15 she auditioned for The Voice Season 26, where all four coaches turned during her blind audition. She joined Gwen Stefani’s team and advanced to the finals as a top three artist, learning from Gwen as well as guest coaches Sting and MGK. She continues to write and record original music while balancing high school, choir and drama productions, studio work, songwriting, and regular performances. Crikwater formed in 2010 in South Buffalo and has grown into a leading Irish-American traditional folk band in Western New York. The group of four multi-instrumentalists has appeared at regional Irish and Celtic festivals including the Buffalo Irish Festival, South Buffalo Irish Festival, Niagara Celtic Festival, Hornell Irish Festival, and Southern Maryland Celtic Fest. Their live show weaves tight vocal harmonies and detailed arrangements with a modern sensibility, moving from fiery fiddle tunes and rousing singalongs to atmospheric airs, heartfelt ballads, and original songs. The night starts with Sydney Sterlace, followed by Crikwater to close the show.

M&T Fourth Friday Opening Reception: "Propagation and Endurance"

Buffalo Arts Studio hosts the opening reception for Propagation and Endurance, an exhibition of ceramic and sculptural work by Deborah Stewart presented as part of M&T Bank’s Fourth Friday at Tri-Main Center. Centered on the forms and functions of seed pods, Stewart pairs sturdy clay pods with spare steel and wire frameworks to reflect how fragile structures shelter, mature, and disperse new life. The dialogue between pliant clay and rigid metal invites a reconsideration of what reads as delicate and what reads as strong. Developed through years of close observation and press mold experimentation, the series draws inspiration from pods such as sweetgum, eucalyptus, Turk’s cap lily, and pinesap. Stewart’s experiences in hiking, camping, and gardening, along with a background in modern dance, inform the sense of motion and breath that carries through the work. Within the space, ceramic and metal elements guide the eye like wayfinding, suggesting the journeys seeds undertake as they search for a place to land. Admission is free and the reception is open to the public.

Patrick Sweany - Sportsmens

Patrick Sweany performs at Sportsmens, with admission priced at $20 plus an online fee. His latest album, Baby, It’s Late, arrives after a seven-year gap between full-length releases and reflects on time passing and growing older. In the period since Ancient Noise, he navigated major changes, kept his Blue Monday nights at The 5 Spot in East Nashville centered on 50s and 60s blues with The Tiger Beats featuring McKinley James, Jason Smay, and Ted Pecchio, launched the soul and funk project SUPER FELON with JD Simo, Adam Abrashoff, Ted Pecchio, and Robbie Crowell, and returned to writing and recording. He began the new material at home on a Tascam 388 in his Bongo Room studio, then invited collaborators to sessions at JD Simo’s House of Grease and McKinley James’s Red Lodge. Recorded live in the room without headphones and self-produced for the first time, the songs embrace a raw, direct feel that channels the strain and release of recent years. The collection nods to past corners of his catalog while exploring new ones, from the gritty blues rock of My Time Ain’t Long to the intimate ballads Christmas Parade and See Through, and on to the hook-driven Golden Fields and the 70s organ funk of Trouble With Love. With more than 25 years of writing, recording, and touring, he leans into patience, letting the songs arrive when they are ready.

Music takes center stage with a Wicked sing-along, new choreography for Dancing Through Life, and a vocal session inspired by Popular in the style of Ariana Grande. Group activities keep the magic lively, from a water balloon challenge that nods to soaring high to potion making, simple magic tricks, and a whimsical round of Would You Rather Witches. Reading, writing, and problem solving are woven throughout with a Wizard of Oz read-aloud, trivia, a choose-your-own-adventure writing project, and math skills practiced through friendship bracelet patterns. The kitchen turns enchanting too with themed punch, rice krispie treats, and an edible gown fit for Glinda. Social studies and science add to the spellbook as campers create their own grimmeries, learn a brief history of spells, and bubble up a classic witchy cauldron. The week blends arts, music, movement, and hands-on experiments into a playful celebration of all things Wicked.
