The Egg-Hart TheaterDodi & Diana
From playwright Kareem Fahmy comes a tale of love, ambition, and destiny centered on Jason, a white Wall Street banker, and Samira, an emerging actor with Egyptian heritage, whose relationship strains just as a controversial TV role could propel her career. Worried that sudden exposure will scorch their marriage, Jason seeks guidance from an astrologer who directs the couple to check into the Hôtel Ritz in Paris on the anniversary of the deaths of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed. Within that charged setting, they test boundaries of desire, power, and trust while awaiting a celestial sign that could define their future. Critics at The New Yorker and Theatremania have praised the play as a gripping, perceptive look at marital complexity and a sharp rebuttal to a long-standing sexist myth. Capital Repertory Theatre previously showcased Fahmy’s American Fast and A Distinct Society in its Next Act Summits and continues its support following the piece’s world premiere with Colt Coeur in New York City. Groups of ten or more can access discounted tickets, with some exclusions.

At Krazy 8’s Billiards Hall, this open 8-ball round robin cash tournament welcomes players of all skill levels. Teams of three compete in a BCA-style round robin with a race to six and double elimination. Entry is $75 per team and includes table time. The team cap is 1400 Fargo. A Fargo robustness of 200 is considered established, and players below that mark will use approximate APA-to-Fargo conversions set for this event, including 520 aligning with APA 6, 460 with APA 5, 420 with APA 4, 350 with APA 3, and 300 with APA 2, with APA 7 available on request. TAP or NAPA conversions can also be used. Matches begin with a lag to decide which team breaks throughout the first round. Each side sets its three-player order blind for round one, every player takes one game per round, and opponents rotate so no one faces the same player consecutively. One timeout per rack is permitted. Each game earns a point, and the first team to six points wins the match. House rules include alternating breaks, players racking their own, an open table after the break, and calling both shots and safeties. An 8 on the break is neutral and does not decide the game. A scratch on the 8-ball results in ball in hand, and if the 8 also falls it is a loss of game. A listed team features Kervin Bruno, Earl Snare, and Brian DeAngelo.

Newtonville United Methodist ChurchTrash Parade: Parent/Grandparent Child Event
Thrifty Connections hosts a hands-on, family-friendly workshop inspired by the Trash Parade’s pollinator theme. Children create wearable bee or butterfly wings using repurposed materials, turning discarded items into colorful costumes. Each participant has 30 minutes to attach as much or as little as they like, and a parent or guardian stays to help throughout. Three 30-minute sessions are available before and during the downtown festivities, giving families flexibility to choose a time that fits their plans. Depending on the selected slot, families can enjoy the main celebration downtown on their own either before or after crafting. The group later reunites to march together in the Trash Parade. Every child takes on a simple task, such as carrying a banner or sharing seeds with onlookers, and a life-size hive will add to the pollinator display. Presented by the Schoharie River Center and the Schenectady Environmental Education Center, the parade highlights creativity, community, and environmental stewardship.

This four round tournament uses a G/25, d5 time control. The entry fee is $5. All ages are welcome. A current USCF membership is required to participate, and you can join on site before round 1. Three sections are offered with separate prizes: Qualified for players rated over 1200, Youth Open for under 1201 or unrated, and Adult Open for under 1201 or unrated. All sections are dual USCF rated for Standard and Quick. The prize fund totals $140. First place awards are $60 for the Qualified section, $20 for Adult Open, and $20 for Youth Open. A $40 Family Team Prize combines the scores of two family members, using the top two if more than two play, with a maximum combined score of 8 points. In a two way tie, cash is split evenly. If more than two players or teams tie, no prize is awarded. Pairings may be adjusted within sections to create competitive matches and rating opportunities regardless of tournament score. If a section has fewer than four players, it will be merged with the next lower section while prize eligibility remains the same and all prizes are guaranteed. Playing up is not permitted by request, though playing down one section may be approved. The Tournament Director may move players or adjust pairings to minimize byes and mismatches. Late entries are welcome. Arrive before a round begins to be paired with a similar rated opponent. The $5 entry applies even if you play only one game. Free bottled water and snacks are provided. Boards, sets, clocks, scoresheets, and pens are available, so no equipment is needed. The pace allows four complete games in the time of one traditional tournament game, supporting focused post game analysis and efficient opportunities to gain rating points.

Empire LiveThe Egg Presents: L. Shankar feat. Selvaganesh Vinayakram & Amit Kavthekar
A collaboration at The Egg brings violinist and vocalist L. Shankar together with percussionists Swaminathan Selvaganesh on kanjira and mridangam and Amit Kavthekar on tabla, blending electric double violin and voice with the intricate pulse of Indian percussion. Known for work that spans Indian classical, pop, and jazz, Shankar co-founded the ensemble Shakti with John McLaughlin after early performances in the United States with jazz artists such as Archie Shepp and Clifford Thornton. Shakti first featured Ramnad Raghavan and a young Zakir Hussain, with Vikku Vinayakram later joining for touring and recordings, and the group’s influential collaborations are often cited as early building blocks of what became known as world music or global jazz. In the 1980s he designed a 10 string double neck electric violin that covers the range from violin to double bass, a distinctive instrument that led to recordings and tours with Peter Gabriel, Frank Zappa, Lou Reed, and Stewart Copeland. His playing appears on well known tracks like Phil Collins’ In The Air Tonight, Public Image Limited’s Rise, and Talking Heads’ Making Flippy Flappy, and he co-wrote the Grammy nominated score Passion for Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ with Peter Gabriel. Over a career spanning decades he has released 28 solo albums and contributed to award winning film, documentary, and television soundtracks, including seven full length albums on ECM. Recent projects include the 2024 albums Over The Stars with Vikku Vinayakram, V. Selvaganesh, and Swaminathan Selvaganesh, and Full Moon with tabla player Abhijit Banerjee, which reached number 3 on the World Music Charts Europe. This concert is part of The Egg’s Resonance Series, curated by Arun Ramamurthy.
