Pottery Wheel Class

Explore the pottery wheel with a beginner-friendly class at The Pottery Shop in Las Vegas. Each session runs about 60 minutes, starting with a quick instructor demonstration followed by time at the wheel to create your own work. Classes often fill quickly, so advance reservations are recommended. There are two ways to participate. A single wheel session is $55 per person and provides your own wheel for the full hour, three one-pound balls of clay, and firing for one piece. A tandem option is $90 for two people sharing one wheel for the hour, with three one-pound balls of clay included and firing for two pieces. To secure a spot, a non-refundable deposit is required, $10 for a single wheel and $20 for a tandem, with the remaining balance paid at the studio. This experience is geared toward newcomers, with guidance through the basics. First-timers typically make smaller, simple forms such as a bowl, a cylinder, or a small dish. A fireable piece cannot be guaranteed. If your work is not suitable to fire, you may choose a finished item to remember the session. Ceramics can be unpredictable, and pieces may crack during drying, bisque firing, or glaze firing. Finished work also shrinks by about 15 percent from the time it is thrown to the final firing. If your piece makes it through the process, staff will apply your selected glaze and complete the last firing, with pick-up estimated in about 4 to 6 weeks. If time allows, more clay can be purchased for $5 per pound, and additional items you want glazed and fired can be added for $15 each. The studio is cashless and accepts major credit cards and Apple Pay. Plan to arrive 10 minutes early for check-in and apron selection. Participants must be 16 or older. Everyone in the wheel area must be registered, with no spectators permitted. Wear closed-toe shoes and clothing that can get messy, avoid loose jewelry and rings, and tie back long hair. Fingernails may get dirty or break. Cancellations or reschedules are not available within 48 hours of class time, and no credits, refunds, or reschedules are offered for late arrivals or no-shows. Serial Killers

Experience a gripping, two-hour multimedia program with criminologist Dr. Scott Bonn that delves into the minds of serial killers and unpacks the real science and practice of criminal profiling. Drawing on exclusive material from his direct encounters, he shares conversations and artifacts from meetings with convicted murderers and explains what profiling reveals about how these offenders think and operate. Attendees are invited to step into the role of profiler by analyzing clues to identify an unknown killer and work through a legendary cold case. A live Q&A welcomes questions about serial killers and true crime, and the presentation also looks at why these stories continue to fascinate. Dr. Bonn is a bestselling author, professor, and public speaker who has deeply studied, corresponded with, interviewed, and accurately profiled some of the most notorious serial predators, including Dennis Rader, known as BTK, and David Berkowitz, the Son of Sam. In 2011 he developed a profile of the then-unknown Long Island Serial Killer that later matched confessed perpetrator Rex Heuermann. Rather than a traditional classroom lecture, this interactive event draws on his real-world experiences to explore how serial killers are psychologically complex and shaped by both biology and environment, clarify the differences between psychopathy and sociopathy, and examine the fantasy-driven compulsions that fuel repeated violence. Due to the subject matter, the program is recommended for mature audiences.
