Youth Indoor Basketball (K-8)

Indoor basketball sessions for kindergarten through eighth grade take place at Croydon Hall School with instruction from TJD Sports Academy. Children in the youngest group discover the game through playful activities that teach ball handling, passing, shooting, and movement while building coordination and confidence. Players in grades 3–5 and 6–8 focus on essential skills such as dribbling, shooting, passing, and defense, then apply what they learn in small-sided games and structured scrimmages to develop strong fundamentals and game awareness. The fee is $145 per child (R).

USA Sports Soccer Programs (Ages 3-9)

At West Front Street Park, youth soccer programs welcome players ages 3 to 9 for coach-led instruction in a friendly, inclusive setting. Two pathways are offered so children can learn alongside peers at a similar stage. Soccer Squirts introduces ages 3 to 5 to the game through playful activities, guided drills, and short scrimmages. Children build comfort with the ball while practicing dribbling, passing, shooting, and basic defending. Along the way they develop coordination, learn simple rules, and explore teamwork. All equipment is provided, and participants receive a Dri-Fit shirt and a completion certificate. Soccer Skills & Scrimmage supports ages 5 to 7 and 7 to 9 with a blend of targeted skill work and game-style play. Coaching focuses on dribbling, passing, ball control, and positioning, then gives players time to apply those techniques in scrimmages that build confidence and decision-making. The environment is supportive and interactive so every player can progress individually and as part of a team. Equipment is provided, and each participant receives a USG Dri-Fit shirt.

After-School Science Club: Spring 2026

Kids in kindergarten through second grade can dive into hands on science with Poricy’s after school club, featuring STEM projects, outdoor discovery, and plenty of adventure. Topics change with the seasons, and this spring spotlights metamorphosis. The program is offered as a six week session, with fees of 90 dollars for six weeks or 120 dollars for an eight week option.

New Jersey Canicross Meetup

At Poricy Park, this friendly canicross run or walk follows an approximately 2.4 mile loop, with alternate trail options available for anyone who prefers a shorter or different route. The loop starts in wide open fields and narrows into riverside paths, offering a mix of grass, dirt, roots, and gravel. A large set of wooden stairs appears twice on the route. Participants are encouraged to walk these sections, and anyone with concerns about stairs can reach out ahead of time to discuss accommodations. There may also be a few fallen trees to step over. A stretch of wide, open grassy trail provides room to practice turns, passing other dogs, and building speed, and optional practice time may follow the main outing. To support a low stress experience, there will be no on leash greetings, and dogs will not interact directly. Please come prepared to advocate for your dog’s space and respect others working their dogs. Amenities include free parking, restrooms at the nature center, and access to a stream or river where dogs can cool off or rinse. If gear is needed or if there are questions about fit for you and your dog, reaching out in advance is welcome.

Parents and young children share the field at Croydon Hall School for a multi sport class that keeps things friendly and pressure free. With a parent actively involved at every step, little athletes practice fundamental movement while trying skills from several sports, including lacrosse, soccer, T-ball, and track and field. Play based activities encourage coordination and balance, and they also nurture patience, teamwork, and self confidence, creating meaningful bonding time along the way. Sessions are tailored for ages 1.5 to 2.5 and 2 to 3.5, so children learn alongside peers at a similar stage. All equipment is supplied by USA Sport Group. The cost is $211 per child. Parent participation is required throughout.

Attendees may bring garments that need attention, or work on a simple patch or pocket to take home. Light refreshments will be available. The organizers emphasize skill sharing and creativity as foundations for community life, and they highlight the often overlooked importance of sewing in helping people mend, resize, and upcycle clothing in ways that support both the environment and the community. This program is part of, and supported by, the Being Human Festival of the National Humanities Center.

Berner Beach Fun

Returning after last year’s success, this BMDCW gathering brings Bernese Mountain Dogs and their people to the Jersey Shore for a day of sand, surf, and social time. Asbury Park offers an off leash dog beach where dogs can run, play, and cool their paws in the ocean, plus a dog friendly boardwalk suited for a relaxed stroll. After time on the beach, a short group walk is planned, with the Berners as the main attraction. Weather permitting, attendees can relax on benches with ocean views and grab snacks like beach fries from the Arcade, or opt for lunch on the patio at Robinson Ale House, which is known for welcoming dogs with water service and a special dish available for them. Parking options include three hours of free parking at the beach and additional paid spots nearby.

River to Farm Bike Tour — Roebling Museum

Meet the Author - Alyson Richman

An author event featuring Alyson Richman and her novel The Missing Pages, a lyrical story about the endurance of books and the human spirit. It begins in 1912 with devoted collector Harry Widener sailing on the Titanic with a cherished volume, then moves forward to Harvard’s Widener Library, where student page Violet Hutchins confronts unexplained events that may tie back to Harry’s legacy. The book weaves together romance, a touch of the supernatural, and a tribute to the restorative power of reading. Richman studied art history and Japanese studies at Wellesley College and is also a painter, with fiction that draws on her love of art, historical research, and travel. Her books have been translated into 25 languages and have appeared on bestseller lists in the United States and abroad. She lives on Long Island with her husband and two children and is at work on her next novel. Prepaid admission is $20 per person, or $25 at the door. This ongoing series is supported by a grant from the B’nai Sholom/Beth El Foundation.

USA Sports Soccer Programs (Ages 3-9)

Young athletes can build their game at West Front Street Park with two programs for ages 3 to 9. Soccer Squirts welcomes new players ages 3 to 5, using playful, inclusive activities to teach dribbling, passing, shooting, defending, and the basics of the game while strengthening coordination and teamwork. All equipment is supplied, and participants receive a Dri-Fit shirt along with a completion certificate. Older children can take part in Soccer Skills & Scrimmage, with sessions for ages 5 to 7 and 7 to 9. Guided by professional coaches, this program focuses on technique, ball control, positioning, and decision making, then puts those skills to work in lively scrimmages that mirror real match play. The atmosphere is supportive and interactive, equipment is provided, and each participant receives a Dri-Fit shirt.

Youth Indoor Basketball (K-8)

Young athletes can build basketball skills in a supportive indoor setting with TJD Sports at the Croydon Gym. Sessions are offered for grades K–2, 3–5, and 6–8, with instruction tailored to each age group. Early learners practice coordination and confidence while working on dribbling, passing, shooting, and movement through games and simple drills. Each session focuses on a different seasonal theme, and this one centers on metamorphosis. It is designed for children in kindergarten through second grade and meets at Poricy Park. Fees are $90 for six weeks or $120 for eight weeks.

Lag Baomer Family Unity Festival

Presented by Chabad of Greater Monmouth County and Chabad of the Shore, this Lag BaOmer unity festival brings the community together at the JCC to celebrate with achdus and joy. Le Fleur BBB presents a five-week installment of the Westie Style Series focused on scallop variations in Night Club Two Step. If the studio cancels a class, an extra session will be added at the end of the series, and classes missed by students are not eligible for makeups.

American Ballroom Dancing

At Le Fleur BBB, this twice-weekly American ballroom class focuses on classic styles with a clear progression. Monday sessions reinforce core figures, while Wednesday classes introduce variations that build on those fundamentals. Students with basic partnering skills such as a box step and a chasse in a partnered hold will be most comfortable with the material. Hands-On Horse Experience for Kids

Experience what it takes to care for rescued horses at Magnolia Equine Sanctuary through a three-week, hands-on series designed for ages 8 and up. The first session introduces the sanctuary and the herd, with plenty of time for grooming and learning care practices from the ground up. A focused masters swim workout tailored for Groups A, B, and C, with sets written to match each swimmer’s pace and ability. Participants are paired with athletes of similar speed. Group A is for those consistently under 1 minute 15 seconds per 100 yards with send-offs around 1 minute 20 to 1 minute 25. Group B suits swimmers near 1 minute 20 to 1 minute 25 per 100 yards with send-offs around 1 minute 35 to 1 minute 40. Group C is for athletes near 1 minute 30 per 100 yards with a 1 minute 45 send-off. The session welcomes a wide range of ability levels within the masters program and is intended for swimmers who can maintain faster than 3 minutes per 100 yards, while those above that pace are encouraged to consider the 8-Week Beginner 101 program. JSM members participate at no additional cost, and non-members pay $20. Members should email in advance to be included, and non-members need to complete registration ahead of time. The workout takes place at the Asbury Park Boys & Girls Club, with on-street parking and a lot available. Family Historic Bike Ride

Celebrate National Bike Month with a gentle, family friendly three mile bicycle loop starting at Lincroft Village Green and heading to Thompson Park. The route follows sidewalks and paths and will be accompanied by a police escort. Local resident and LVGA member Ward Kradjel leads the ride, with a few pauses to spotlight neighborhood history along the way. Scouts can review the ABCs of bike safety, and for anyone not on the ride there will be music, games, and bike activities at the start location. Bring your own bike, and helmets are required for all riders. Admission is free and open to all ages.

Farmingdale Memorial Day Parade 2026

The 53rd annual Memorial Day parade honors the holiday while also recognizing the 250th anniversary of American independence. The town’s historic setting comes alive with patriotic spirit as the procession features live music, dancing, classic cars, horse drawn carriages, and more. Before the parade begins, the Main Street Market opens with artisan vendors and boutique tables to explore. A Veterans Memorial ceremony will take place at Farmingdale’s War Memorial at Lutz Park, hosted by VFW Post 9691 and American Legion Post 178. The reviewing stand will be located near Pierce Memorial Presbyterian Church. For safety and staging, roads leading into town will be closed, and nearby streets including Southard Ave, Hall St from Academy St to Walnut St, Walnut St off Hall St between house numbers 51 and 69, and Academy St from Southard Ave to West Main St will have closures with no parking. Only floats and parade participants are permitted on these streets, and vehicles along the parade route must be moved in advance. Early arrival is encouraged, and many attendees bring a lawn chair or blanket, a bag for kids to gather tossed candy, and flags to wave as the floats pass.

Memorial Day Ocean Swim: Long Branch (7am)

Take part in an open water ocean swim at Long Branch Beach in Pier Village, guided by Coach Brian Shea. The session is designed for swimmers who can comfortably cover more than 500 yards without assistance. Expect up to an hour in the water on a roughly 500 meter loop set just off the beach, with buoys to help practice sighting and navigation. You can choose your distance, provided you finish within the hour. Safety is a priority, with at least two lifeguards in the water on boards or kayaks monitoring the course. Meet at the lifeguard stand on the beach at Pier Village, where metered parking is available nearby. A suggested donation of $10 per swim or three swims for $20 helps cover lifeguard support, with contributions collected in a labeled canister at the stand. Water temperatures often range from the low 50s to around 60 degrees Fahrenheit, so a wetsuit is strongly recommended. Rental wetsuits are available for $25 per day and should be arranged in advance with height, weight, and the day needed, ideally more than 48 hours ahead. Participants should be confident swimming more than 500 meters in deep water without stopping and should not require assistance except in emergencies. Those new to open water may benefit from a clinic beforehand. Plans may change if weather or ocean conditions are unsafe.

Cigar Box Guitar Workshop

Build a three-string cigar box guitar in a hands-on workshop led by John Bernyk, with an introduction to the instrument’s deep roots in American blues and a live slide guitar demonstration. All materials and tools are provided, including a cigar box with varying styles, a hardwood neck, hardware, and strings, so no special woodworking experience is required and guidance is available throughout. Pricing is $85 per adult for one guitar, or for a parent and child team under 16, with a recommended minimum age of 12, the cost is $85 for one guitar or $160 for two guitars, with taxes and fees not included. The session takes place in the YURT. Bernyk has been building cigar box instruments for fifteen years and has crafted more than 600 pieces, from cigar box and gas can guitars to oil can and washboard versions, and he founded the Cigar Box Stompers to share the music and history of this tradition. Attendees receive 10% off their order at Tulip Tree Cafe on the day of class.

Take on an open water session at Long Branch Beach in Pier Village guided by Coach Brian Shea. Swimmers follow a buoy-marked loop of roughly 500 meters just offshore, creating a practical setting to practice sighting and navigation. The session welcomes athletes who can confidently swim more than 500 yards unassisted in deep water, and you can cover as much or as little distance as you like within the session. For safety, at least two lifeguards will be in the water on rescue boards or kayaks. Water temperatures are typically in the mid-50s to mid-60s Fahrenheit, so a wetsuit is recommended if you are sensitive to cold. Wetsuit rentals are available and billed at $25 per day. The swim may be canceled if ocean or weather conditions are unsafe. Metered parking is available around Pier Village. A suggested donation of $10 per swim, or three swims for $20, helps cover lifeguards and equipment, with a labeled canister on the lifeguard stand at the meeting point. Coach Brian brings decades of experience as an athlete, coach, and consultant. Safety is prioritized with a guarded format that includes at least two lifeguards positioned in the water on a board or kayak. Water temperatures are expected to range from 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit, so wetsuits are strongly recommended for those who may be sensitive to cold. Wetsuit rentals are available for a fee. West Coast Swing: Beyond Basics!

Level up your West Coast Swing with a six-week Cali-Mixer Series that goes beyond the basics. Build on your foundations while adding playful patterns such as the runaround, infinity, and slingshot. North 2 Shore Presents Winyah

Presented by North 2 Shore, Winyah brings a bold mix of Southern spirit and indie rock grit to The Stone Pony. Formed in 2023 and named after the South Carolina bay where four of the five members grew up, the group draws on humid nights, endless highways, and small-town tensions to shape its sound. When an unexpected Bonnaroo opportunity arrived with only three songs and five weeks to prepare, the band camped on a friend’s couch, rehearsed in a borrowed warehouse, and crafted its debut, Lot to Learn, from the ground up. The trio first connected during a memorable night at Nectar’s in Burlington, Vermont in 2018, then returned to Vermont the following spring to record with engineer Roger Stauss at Sugarhouse Soundworks, resulting in a self-titled EP built from seven tightly knit tracks. Before forming in 1964, its founding players appeared on hundreds of recordings and backed artists such as Bob Marley, Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy Cliff, Alton Ellis, and Ken Boothe. After an early split, the members stayed active as ska flowed into rocksteady and reggae, then reunited in the 1980s for notable appearances at Reggae Sunsplash in Montego Bay and London, later playing New York’s Village Gate, supporting Bunny Wailer, and launching headline tours across the United States. Their vibrant, roots-grounded style has inspired generations, from the U.K.’s Two-Tone wave to bands worldwide that mix ska with rock, jazz, punk, and more. Howie Day

The Vogel welcomes singer songwriter Howie Day for an evening centered on heartfelt writing and inventive melodies. Known for dynamic solo performances, he builds layered soundscapes in real time with guitar, vocals, and looped percussion, creating the impact of a full band while keeping an intimate connection with the crowd. Raised in Bangor, Maine, he began piano as a child, picked up guitar in his early teens, and was writing and performing by fifteen throughout New England. He self-released his debut album, Australia, which earned Best Debut Album at the 2001 Boston Music Awards and sold more than 30,000 copies independently.
