Cyanotype Workshop for Kids Age 6 – 12
Teaching artist Melissa Wilgis leads a hands-on cyanotype workshop designed for children ages 6 to 12 with a parent or guardian, with a maximum of two children per guardian. Over three hours, participants are introduced to the basics of this historic 1842 photographic process that uses sunlight or UV light to create rich Prussian blue images on paper. Kids explore the connection between art and science, learning how light reacts with light-sensitive materials while experimenting with composition and positive and negative shapes. Children create their own sun-powered blue and white prints by arranging natural or everyday objects such as leaves, flowers, feathers, and cutouts to make unique shadow images. The process is non-toxic. All supplies are provided, and families may bring small objects to experiment with. The cost is $150 for one parent and one child, or $200 for one parent and two children.
