Figure Drawing Sessions
Craven Arts Council & Gallery hosts a drop-in figure drawing session led by local artist Courtney Durocher. Artists may sketch, paint, or create in their preferred medium while working from a live model who is semi clothed. The format builds core drawing skills, observational focus, and an understanding of movement, gesture, and the human form. It begins with quick one to five minute poses for gestural studies, then transitions to longer poses for deeper exploration and finished pieces. Durocher, an artist experienced in both physical and digital media with a focus on illustration and comics, will lead the room and offer instruction and feedback upon request. The program welcomes artists working in any medium and is being offered as a pilot to gauge interest in figure drawing. The cost is $5 for Craven Arts Council & Gallery members and $10 for nonmembers. Payment is taken at the door and registration is not required. Participants should bring their own materials, paper, easels, and other tools, though a limited number of easels will be available. Those who cannot attend the listed dates are encouraged by the organizer to complete the interest form for future sessions.

Each ticket includes one workshop session at The Unbroken Potter and one month of ENGAGE access for one adult, which provides unlimited entry to all ENGAGE in-person workshops for 30 days along with 24/7 access to the private online trauma recovery community Healing Place @ Hesed. ENGAGE workshops are intentionally designed to nurture regulation and healing through creativity, movement, and shared experience. Rather than centering on conversation about hardships, the program fosters safe spaces where connection, rhythm, and presence support natural healing. Offerings are trauma-informed, grounded in Interpersonal Neurobiology, and recognize how safe, attuned relationships help restore balance and sustain long-term emotional and relational well-being. Activities include gentle, sensory-focused practices such as music, arts and pottery, yoga, horticulture, Tai Chi, and related modalities. ENGAGE complements therapy and other recovery supports, and it also serves as a meaningful stand-alone resource for adults. Clay is used for its grounding touch, slow rhythmic motions that signal safety, and the way two-handed work can encourage whole-brain integration. It offers a nonverbal avenue for expression without pressure to explain and can restore a sense of agency through creating something tangible. Artistic skill is not the focus. The heart of this workshop is noticing the body, connecting in community, and allowing the nervous system to settle.
