Clayton is growing, and the choices made today will influence the community for years to come. The Clayton Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development Committee presents its annual State of Economic Development, a forward looking program that examines opportunities, challenges, and strategic direction for the region. This year highlights the future of workforce development and the talent pipeline, healthcare and community well-being, infrastructure and transportation, and economic competitiveness aimed at business recruitment and expansion. The program begins with a keynote from Parker Wyatt, Senior Consultant with Global Location Strategies, offering a national perspective on site selection, business recruitment, and how communities can remain competitive. An expert panel then explores these topics in depth, sharing insights on future plans, emerging trends, and how organizations are adapting to meet current and upcoming needs. The discussion is moderated by Ben Tobin, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist with the Triangle Business Journal known for coverage of economic development, business growth, and regional trends. After the program, a guided windshield bus tour provides a firsthand look at key development sites, growth corridors, and future opportunities across the community. The tour is limited to 25 participants. This program is hosted in partnership with the Town of Clayton Economic Development Department. Intro to Fused Glass
Intro to Fused Glass at Pottery Camp offers a hands-on introduction to glass fusing. Instruction covers glass basics and the use of cutting tools as you design a piece in your own colors. Choose a mold such as a candy dish, bowl, votive, or a panel for a lantern, with lanterns available for an additional $15. Most projects take about one and a half to two hours, so plan to arrive at least ninety minutes before closing to have enough time to complete your piece. Finished work is kiln fired to fuse, then fired again to shape, and is included in the class price. Pieces will be ready for pickup within a week.

Turkish Lantern Workshop
Discover the art of crafting traditional Turkish lanterns in a hands-on class with a limited number of lamps available. Choose your design and use colorful glass pieces to decorate a glass globe, with all materials provided. During the class you will place and attach the glass, then take home grout and instructions to complete the piece later, since it needs to dry for at least two hours before grouting. A take-home box includes everything needed to finish and connect the lamp, including the light bulb. A deposit of $35 reserves a lamp, with a $35 balance due on the day of the class for a total cost of $70. This first offering is being used to gauge interest and may lead to a second order.

The first As One Unity ride of the year brings cyclists together at Knightdale Station Park by Oak City Brewing Company. Parking is available in the lot behind the brewery, and a brief pre-ride talk takes place before roll-out. Four pace groups are offered so participants can match their distance and speed. The A group covers about 63 miles at a 20 to 21 mph pace with roughly 2,059 feet of climbing and a rest stop around mile 32 at Circle K. The B route spans about 37 miles at 18 to 19 mph with around 1,314 feet of elevation, and the C group follows the same 37 mile course at a 15 to 16 mph pace with a stop near mile 18 at the County Line Store. The D option is approximately 20 miles at 14 to 15 mph with about 697 feet of elevation and a break around mile 12.8 at Riley Mart. Route maps are provided for each group on Ride with GPS and Garmin.

All animals are expected to be healthy and contained, and the sale of dogs or cats is not permitted. Limited public parking and viewing will be available at Clayton Community Park, the Clayton Community Center, and Christ the King Church. At Clayton Community Park, fields and restrooms will be open. At the Community Center, outdoor courts will be available for seating and viewing, portable restrooms will be on site, and the building will remain closed. Christ the King Church will have portable restrooms outside. Parking is limited, so carpooling is encouraged, and Lot Full signs will be posted when areas reach capacity. For everyone’s safety, grills, tents or canopies, glass, and alcohol are not permitted. Please follow posted signage and staff directions.

The Ries Brothers, siblings from St. Petersburg pronounced Rees, bring a polished mix of rock, blues, funk, and reggae to The Pour House Music Hall & Record Shop. Charlie handles lead vocals while playing drums and keyboard bass at once, laying down a deep groove, and Kevin Jordan adds guitar, ukulele, melodica, and harmonies for a remarkably full two-person sound. They started out on Florida bar stages as teenagers, a run that led to two regional tours with the band Chicago and a leap into music full time. Their performances have connected across genres, with stage shares alongside G. Love & Special Sauce, Stick Figure, Pepper, Galactic, Stephen Marley, 311, and Iration, and appearances at Okeechobee Music Fest, Sunfest, Innings Festival, Cali Roots, Gasparilla, and Summer Camp. Recent work underscores constant momentum. They collaborated remotely with members of The Lumineers, Gary Clark Jr., Steve Miller Band, and Iration. A reggae remix of Take It Back featuring Julian Marley, Bumpin Uglies, Little Stranger, and others arrived as part of their second full-length, Paint Your Emotion, produced by John Agnello. Their self-titled EP followed in 2022, produced by Gary Clark Jr.’s original drummer and engineer, featuring a track with G. Love and Cas Haley, and it reached #1 on Spotify’s Nu Blues playlist. 2023 delivered the singles Your Friday Night and Strange Times. They supported David Shaw of The Revivalists on two tours and joined him on stage nightly, then expanded their festival footprint with Cali Vibes, Shaky Knees, Reggae Rise Up Fest, Dry Diggins, Montana Hemp Fest, and Terptown Throwdown. In 2024 they logged more than 60 dates with Big Something, added Gem and Jam and Hulaween, joined regional runs with Badfish, and returned to amphitheaters with O.A.R. before focusing on new writing. The next year included a third sailing on the 311 Cruise, sets at Sweetwater 420 Festival and Sunshine Get Down, and new releases on SKP, the label founded by 311 front man Nick Hexum, including Coming Out Swinging, heard at all Tampa Bay Rays home games, and Golden Sun featuring Nick Hexum. Each day includes two live animal encounters with a chance to take photos while holding the animals, two interactive experiments such as launching water rockets and UV exploration of a bioluminescent cave, one take-home prize like slime, rocks and minerals, or fossils, and a science-themed art project, plus plenty of outdoor games and play. Horse Riding Summer Camp at MacNair's Country Acres, Raleigh, NC
A summer horseback riding camp in Raleigh, NC welcomes ages 6 to 14 and takes place during Wake County Schools traditional summer break. Both full-day and half-day schedules are available, with half days recommended for campers who are 6 or 7. Participants are grouped by riding ability and ride once each day, with lessons spanning both ring instruction and trail experiences. No prior riding experience is required. The program emphasizes core horsemanship and horse care, including grooming, tacking, post-ride routines, and beginner riding skills. Middle school students can spend a focused week building executive functioning and life skills. Across five days, participants learn how to set up simple systems to keep binders, backpacks, folders, and other school materials organized, keep track of assignments, manage homework, prepare for tests, break larger projects into manageable steps, stay on task, and ask teachers for help. The workshop also includes practice with stress management and frustration coping strategies, plus hands-on exposure to everyday tasks like packing lunch, preparing easy meals, doing laundry, and maintaining good hygiene. Led by Eileen Langhans, this Monday through Friday program takes place in Fuquay-Varina. The fee is $175.
Bootcamp Workout
Outside The Box Fitness presents an outdoor bootcamp workout at Deep River Brewing Company. The 60 minute session is led by a personal trainer and welcomes every fitness level. The lineup includes IFBB Pro Men’s Physique, Bikini, and Classic Physique, each with Open and Masters divisions. As an NPC national qualifier across all divisions, the contest offers a pathway forward, and overall NPC winners receive paid entry to NPC North Americans and NPC Nationals. Judging is presented at Olympia caliber, with Arnold Classic MC David Baye on the mic. The Official Mens Physique Show will provide live commentary for Men’s Physique. Stage and lighting are produced by Gilco Productions, once again supporting the show’s presentation. An annual cacao ceremony welcomes a visiting Peruvian shaman who blesses the cacao and leads participants through an indigenous tradition carried forward through generations. The cacao served has been tended in ceremony for over six months specifically for this gathering. Each person receives a warm cup of ceremonial cacao and gentle guidance on how to drink it and work with its intention. The space is held to support emotional, energetic, and even cellular transformation, inviting feelings of grounding, peace, renewal, and an open heart. This once-a-year occasion offers time to release what no longer serves and to reconnect with clarity and inner harmony. Attendance is limited and reservations are required. The total cost is $50, secured with a $25 deposit that is non-refundable and non-transferable. If tickets are purchased on Eventbrite or the $25 deposit is sent in advance, the remaining $25 is due in cash upon arrival.
