White Castle Slider Search

The White Castle USA Luge Slider Search brings wheeled-sled luge to Charlotte Motor Speedway, introducing the sport to newcomers while scouting future national team members and Olympians. This free recruitment clinic focuses on boys and girls ages 10 to 13, and every participant receives a White Castle USA Luge Slider Search T-shirt. White Castle, the nation’s first fast food chain, has supported the program since 2017, helping USA Luge expand its off-season outreach during the summer and fall tour. Registration is required and limited to one clinic per participant. A parent or legal guardian must accompany each athlete. For safety, wear fitted long pants, a long sleeve shirt, and sneakers, with shorts and a T-shirt suitable for the physical testing portion. If plans change, please provide advance notice so another participant can take the spot. In the event of rain, a clinic may be canceled for safety reasons and will not be rescheduled. Established in 1985, this grassroots initiative identifies, trains and qualifies athletes for the USA Luge Junior Development Team, creating a pathway to the National and Olympic Teams. Alumni include Olympic medalists Erin Hamlin and Brian Martin, as well as numerous U.S. Olympians across multiple Games, including members of the 2026 team such as Marcus Mueller, Ansel Haugsjaa, Chevonne Forgan, Zack DiGregorio, and Jonny Gustafson.

Words to Live By

At the Davis Theatre, this program blends music, spoken word, and personal storytelling to chart a passage from hardship and recovery toward connection, honesty, and hope. Developed by Jim Love with the Cabarrus Arts Council and Guerilla Poets, it springs from his lived experience with mental health and brings together nationally and regionally recognized artists and advocates whose work helps people find strength through art, truth, and shared understanding. The need for that conversation is clear. In Cabarrus, Rowan, and Mecklenburg counties, nearly three quarters of violent deaths are suicides, and mental health and substance use remain leading local health concerns. Nationally, diagnoses have climbed by almost 40 percent since 2019. Onstage and in the room, the performance starts a dialogue and encourages it to continue throughout the community. Each song, poem, and story offers a way to stay present, to listen, to speak, and to connect. Tickets are kept accessible, and additional contributions support production costs, fair pay for artists, and Guerilla Poets’ ongoing community programs.

Evening of Creative Dharma Sharing

An intentional open mic invites participants into a mindful, creative circle where there is no pressure to perform and simply being witnessed is welcome. The gathering begins with quiet meditation followed by a drumming sound bath, then moves into introductions and a supportive space for one-at-a-time sharing. Expression can take any form that feels authentic, including music, movement, poetry, visual art, or another medium, and those who prefer to sit back and observe are equally included. After individual offerings, the group shifts into a collaborative creation session. Together, participants can make music, draw, dance, explore movement, or simply witness what unfolds. The evening closes with a potluck meal and easy conversation. To prepare, bring something you would like to share or come just as you are. Keep your contribution simple and genuine, and bring any materials or instruments you might need, including items for the collaborative portion if you wish. A dish, drink, or snack for the potluck is appreciated. Please arrive with openness, respect, and a willingness to witness others. Offered in the spirit of dana, this gathering is freely shared. Charlotte Relateful Immersion, May 29-31, 2026

A relational practice immersion in Charlotte centers on the art of connecting with honesty and care in the moment. Rather than discussing better relating in the abstract, participants slow down and embody presence together through guided, in-the-room practice. The format blends whole-group circles, small groups, and partner work. Activities include tuning into what is unfolding between people, naming moment to moment experience through body, heart, mind and awareness, stepping into another’s perspective to refresh assumptions, relaxing control to discover what emerges, and practicing candor with compassion in conversation. Everyone is encouraged to honor personal boundaries. There is no pressure to perform or push beyond what feels right. The premise is simple... meaningful change grows from meeting what is already here. This experience is well suited for those seeking relationships that feel more genuine and nourishing, more aliveness and realness in how they connect, mindfulness applied to being with others, clarity with compassionate boundaries, and a space where playfulness and depth can coexist. Participants often leave with a wider sense of possibility in connection, a deeper feeling of being at home in themselves, the experience of being seen without overriding limits, more access to grounded and expressive communication that carries into everyday life, and renewed courage to love and shine without apology. Many also find themselves moving beyond old either or tradeoffs about how connection is supposed to work. This is not therapy or a group healing session. It is a collective exploration shaped by everyone in the room. There are no blanket guarantees of comfort or safety rules that protect people from feeling. The container emphasizes courage with care, welcomes a full range of experiences without ranking emotions, and balances honest expression with attentiveness to impact. Facilitators may pause or redirect moments that drift away from present-moment connection. The immersion is co-facilitated by James Dial, steward of Relateful Charlotte and a master’s-level student in talent and organizational development, and Valerie Daniel, Managing Director of The Relateful Company who integrates extensive corporate leadership with spiritual practice. Valerie has mentored James for years. The setting is a Plum Village inspired community center beside Reedy Creek Park, offering a mindful atmosphere supported by the surrounding nature.
