April Meeting

Breastfeeding parents and those expecting and planning to breastfeed are welcome at a free, drop-in La Leche League meeting. No RSVP is required. The setting is relaxed and conversational, with parents and children gathering to discuss the joys and challenges of nursing at every stage, from the newborn period to starting solids and eventually weaning. La Leche League has supported families worldwide since 1956, and this gathering reflects that tradition with a welcoming, judgment free environment where each parent’s insight into their own baby is respected. Leaders trained in breastfeeding support are available to share accurate, up to date guidance. Participation is flexible, whether attending once or returning over time. Anyone feeding human milk is included, whether exclusively breastfeeding, pumping, or combining methods, and babies as well as older children are welcome. Casual and comfortable is expected. Please note that the meeting takes place in a home where a cat lives; the cat keeps to herself when people are around, but she is not confined to a single room.

Buddy Ball Baseball

MS Gulf Coast Buddy Sports powers an inclusive, no-cost baseball experience at Gulfport Sportsplex that invites children and teens of all abilities to enjoy the game in a positive, welcoming setting. Games are played on the turf at Fields 10 and 11 with lively music, player introductions, announcements, cheering from the stands, and lots of smiles. Every participant gets a turn at bat and in the field, with balls put in play from a tee or on gentle pitches. Games typically run two to three innings while an announcer keeps the energy high with play-by-play and tunes. There is no fee to participate or to volunteer. Players receive a jersey and cap, and volunteer jerseys are available at the Buddy Sports tent located between Fields 10 and 11. Closed-toe footwear is required, cleats are fine but not steel. The program uses plastic bats and soft foam baseballs, and gloves or helmets are optional. Snacks are provided after each game, and the final night includes medals and a free photo booth. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old, and service hours can be documented on request. Players ages 5 to 9 need a parent or guardian on the field as their buddy, or a designated buddy provided by the parent, and cannot participate without that support. All players and attendees must wear shoes and appropriate clothing, and inappropriate or aggressive behavior is not permitted. Adults who are not assigned to assist should remain outside the field and dugouts and cheer from the stands. Teams are formed after registration closes, and all players and volunteers register online through the MS Gulf Coast Buddy Sports website under the Player and Volunteer Registration sections. Buddy Ball focuses on inclusion, encouragement, and fun so everyone has the chance to play baseball.

Spring Voices: Reflections of the Human Spirit

Spring Voices: Reflections of the Human Spirit at IMPAC traces how music meets essential human needs, moving from shared unity to quiet self-reflection and, ultimately, to renewal, joy, love, and meaning. The program begins with a ceremonial salute to America’s 250th birthday through Leonard Bernstein’s Fanfare for the Inauguration of John F. Kennedy alongside the bold sweep of Hector Berlioz’s Hungarian March, works that affirm a shared identity and outward expression. At the heart of the evening is Gustav Mahler’s Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen (I am lost to the world), a tender meditation on introspection and inner calm placed at the center to bridge the program’s emotional journey. The finale, Antonin Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, radiates life, nature, and human joy, capturing the spirit of springtime renewal. Together these pieces shape a thoughtful, beautiful arc that reflects the resilience of the human spirit and the unifying power of music.

Wet Carved Concrete Workshop 3-Day Experience

Explore the art of wet carved concrete during a three-day, hands-on workshop that guides you from first sketch to finished sculpture. Participants design and create a vertical piece such as a tall planter or sculptural form using a straightforward sand and cement mix along with specialized carving tools. No prior experience is required, only curiosity and a willingness to try something new. The experience begins with an introduction to the process and design planning that sets you up for success. Vertical shapes are recommended, and the group prepares materials together by measuring and dry blending sand and cement at a three-to-one ratio, portioning the mix into buckets, setting up individual stations with cylindrical molds, and reviewing example pieces for inspiration. If the first session is missed, arriving early on the second day makes it easy to catch up. Finished works typically measure about 10 by 12 inches or 9 by 14 inches and weigh roughly 40 to 50 pounds. The second session focuses on mixing by hand, packing the material into forms, allowing it to set, then removing the mold to carve directly into the slowly curing concrete. During the set period, there is time to look at reference images, sketch ideas, and discuss carving techniques. Support and one-on-one guidance are available throughout. Many participants complete their carving in around five hours. An optional set of ten custom carving tools can be purchased for $25. Plan to devote the full day, since total working time can reach about eight hours depending on temperature and stamina. When carving is complete, there is no cleanup or heavy moving required, just a moment to appreciate what you created. The final session is dedicated to finishing touches. You will true up the base, sign the underside, rinse away loose material, and begin curing through either water submersion or periodic soaking. The space is tidied, a brief celebration and group photo mark the wrap, and pieces can head home right away or be picked up or shipped later if needed. The group will decide the schedule together. Participants leave with a completed sculpture, practical knowledge of wet carving techniques, and the confidence to continue at home, with tools available for purchase. Refunds, minus credit card fees, are available up to two weeks before the workshop begins. After that window the fee is non-refundable, though tickets may be transferred to a friend.

The format mixes lecture with accessible movement, using light, gentle sequences and positions to apply what you learn in real time. No previous experience is necessary. Expect useful techniques you can use daily to support pelvic health, along with opportunities to connect with others who are interested in wellness and body awareness. This learning experience is suitable for anyone with a pelvis, whether you work in health care, enjoy fitness, or are simply curious. The facilitator is a pelvic floor physical therapist based in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, practicing in outpatient and concierge settings with limited office hours, pursuing continued education in well woman care under the midwifery model, and attending home births as able. Training includes a BS in Biological Sciences from Mississippi State University, a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Belmont University, and certification in Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise, along with the founding of Becoming Whole Physical Therapy and Pelvic Care in 2023.

Jovin Webb

Jovin Webb takes the stage with the Louisiana soul and lived-in voice that first drew national attention on American Idol, channeling a journey shaped by church music, the blues, and hard-won perseverance. The Baton Rouge artist recently unveiled his debut album, Drifter, on the venerable blues label Blind Pig, produced by multi Grammy winner Tom Hambridge. Across its twelve tracks, the record moves from gritty blues and fiery harmonica to tender soul ballads and rock and roll energy in the spirit of Little Richard. Webb’s story includes the guidance of a dedicated single mother and an early introduction to the blues from his father, and that history fuels music that searches for redemption while honoring tradition without feeling stuck in the past.

Eric Johanson @ Ground Zero Biloxi

Eric Johanson pairs sharp songwriting with a deep feel for the guitar, crafting music that is soulful, energetic, and rooted in a blend of rock, roots, blues, and contemporary sounds. Drawing on the swampy pulse of his New Orleans background as well as heavier, fuzz-rich tones, he moves confidently between grit and grace, power and nuance. American Songwriter has noted that his formidable guitar work always serves melodies and lyrics that stretch the boundaries of blues rock. His 2023 album The Deep and the Dirty debuted at number one on the Billboard Blues Chart, marking him as a leading voice among modern guitar-driven artists. He followed with Live In Mississippi in 2025, a Top 10 Billboard release that captures the charge of his stage show. Extensive touring throughout the United States and sold-out headline runs across Europe have fueled rapid word of mouth, building a reputation for performances that hit hard, take unexpected turns, and stay closely connected to the room.
