Homeschool STEM Club Grades 3-6 Year 1

Designed for homeschoolers in grades 3 to 5, this Year 1 club focuses on LEGO Mindstorms robotics and hands-on engineering. Students experiment with sensors so their robots can interpret the environment, then tackle a couple of take-home engineering challenges. The group also prepares for the annual Robot Parade by building robots and creating floats, with machines programmed to follow a line and keep a safe distance from the one ahead. Participants build critical thinking, problem solving, and computational thinking skills while collaborating and sharing ideas with peers. Tuition is $110 for one child or $90 for a sibling, and families with children in different classes can ask Miss Annette about a sibling discount before paying. The class runs with a minimum of four and a maximum of ten students, and includes two built-in makeup sessions for weather or illness related cancellations. Local Author Event: "The White House Hotel"

Set against the slow rise of the Lake of the Ozarks in the early 1930s, this story traces the birth of Lake Ozark, Missouri, and the people who choose to make it home at the southwest end of Bagnell Dam. Harold Pilkington, the son of a Tulsa police officer, arrives alongside Marion Clayton from Illinois, whose father works the mines. They join the Frys from Springfield and the Robinson sisters from Bagnell, building work, family, and community together as they look toward the future. Their days revolve around a central gathering place known as the Whitehouse, where cook Maggie Custer and waitresses Pauline and Janie keep the doors open, and where newcomers from Fort Wood... a corporal from Mississippi and a sergeant from Chicago... find belonging. Harold’s Cherokee friend Jay Rice, craftsman Lon Stanton, the Gordon family of restaurateurs, and engineer Bruce James add their own skills and stories, while young Ruthie Clayton leaves a lasting impression. What begins in the dam years becomes a prelude to the surge of postwar tourism that will reshape the Lake of the Ozarks.

Golden Girls! Thank You For Being A Friend!

An adults-only parody musical sends up TV’s The Golden Girls, with drag queens stepping into the roles of the Miami roommates. Expect retro 1980s flair, sharp-tongued squabbles, cheeky conversations, cheesecake, warm group hugs, and an original pop score. The production is rated R for strong language, sexually oriented content, and mature themes, and is not suitable for those under 17. Created by Nick Brennan and Luke Jones with book, music, and lyrics, the show is directed by Dr. Laura Vedenhaupt and produced by Emily Whitener-Roberts. It revisits favorite moments from the classic sitcom through an all-new story, an 80s fashion showcase, and irreverent adult humor. The plot follows Blanchette, Dorthea, Roz, and Sophie as they share a Miami bungalow filled with wicker furniture while gearing up for the Shady Oaks Retirement Home Talent Show. Their plans are thrown off when pop icon Ricky Martin moves in next door and throws raucous pool parties. A challenge tied to the talent show raises the stakes… if the women take first prize, the parties end, and if he wins, the quartet must handle cleanup. Singing, dancing, and mischief follow as they try to outshine him at his own game. Fans can also test their knowledge in a pre-show Golden Girls trivia challenge, with winners announced shortly before the performance. Previous runs of this parody have sold out at New York’s Laurie Beechman Theatre and the show has toured widely across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The show includes an intermission and playful 1980s-style commercial breaks. Ticketing offers two formats. Choose a dinner-and-show package served in an on-site banquet room by an award winning caterer, or a show-only option with the ability to bring personal snacks. Coffee, tea, and water are provided, and outside beverages, alcoholic or nonalcoholic, are welcome. Paper tickets are issued and scanned at entry, with patrons selecting tables and seats at the time of purchase. Presented by Capital City Productions as part of the Spotz! On the Artist Series.

This friendly community jam takes place at Noren River Access and centers on movement, music, and creative expression by the water. The focus is on fire flow arts, including fire hoop, poi, staff, and other props, with spontaneous skill sharing, short lessons, and community games often emerging as people connect. Safety is a priority. Anyone planning to spin fire should wear natural fiber clothing such as cotton, denim, wool, or leather, and avoid synthetic fabrics. For safe fueling and organization, a single designated fuel station is administered by the MO Movement & Music crew. The atmosphere is come as you are and judgment free, with no pressure to participate beyond what feels comfortable. People often bring flow props, drums or other instruments, water, a chair or blanket, friends, and food to share if they wish. Spend time spinning, dancing, playing, learning, or simply relaxing while the firelight glows along the Missouri River. All are welcome.

Playhouse Builds 2026 for River City Habitat for Humanity

River City Habitat for Humanity is launching a new community build focused on sparking creativity for local children. In a single day, teams from businesses, churches, civic groups, and circles of friends or family will assemble and decorate sturdy, fully functional playhouses that are donated to families in the area. Each team is guided by a child’s theme and preferences to shape the design, and all materials, tools, and on-site instruction are provided, so no prior building experience is required. Teams should plan for a full-day commitment with 10 to 12 participants ages 16 and older. Participation is structured as a $1,500 team sponsorship that covers supplies and instruction while supporting Habitat’s mission to build homes in the community. Space is limited to 10 teams, and participation is confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis. These handcrafted play spaces offer more than a place to play. They encourage imagination, build confidence, and create lasting memories that extend well beyond the day of the build.

CCP's “Chicago, The Musical!” - Spotz! On the TEEN Artist Series (TEEN Version)

The teen-focused edition of Capital City Productions’ Spotz! On the Artist Series presents Chicago, The Musical in the TEEN Version, led by Christina Stout, a CCP executive board member and director. Built exclusively for teens, the program uses early casting and a rehearsal plan designed around school commitments. Adapted with iTheatrics, this Kander and Ebb classic follows chorus girl Roxie Hart in Jazz Age Chicago after she kills a cheating lover and briefly convinces her husband, Amos, to shoulder the blame. When the truth emerges and she lands on death row, Roxie and fellow inmate Velma Kelly compete for attention and headlines, then ultimately align in pursuit of fame, fortune, and acquittal. The show’s history includes a 1975 Broadway premiere directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse that ran 936 performances, followed by a 1996 revival that opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, moved to the Shubert, then to the Ambassador Theatre, where it has continued for decades with nearly 10,000 performances. Accolades span ten Tony Award nominations in 1975, a Drama Desk Award that year, and six Tony Awards and six Drama Desk Awards in 1997 for the revival, including Best Revival of a Musical and Outstanding Revival of a Musical. Guests can choose between a dinner-and-show experience served in the Sweet Spotz banquet room inside the theatre by an award-winning caterer, or a show-only ticket that allows bringing personal snacks. Coffee, tea, and water are provided, and patrons may bring their own beverages, alcoholic or non-alcoholic. Performances are offered as both evening and matinee presentations. Paper tickets are issued and scanned at entry, and seats or tables are selected during purchase. The production is staged on Capital City Productions’ expansive 125 foot mainstage.
