Yachtley Crew

Yächtley Crëw, a seven-piece band from Southern California celebrated as The Titans of Soft Rock, delivers a nautical-themed Yacht Rock showcase in crisp suits and captain’s hats. Rising quickly in 2017 with sold-out club dates, the group helped fuel the modern Yacht Rock wave and drew the attention of Jimmy Buffett, who signed them to Mailboat Records before their move to Earache and Universal. Expect smooth favorites from the late 70s and early 80s, with selections like Boz Scaggs’ “Lido Shuffle,” Ace’s “How Long,” Robbie Dupree’s “Steal Away,” the Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love,” and Christopher Cross’ “Ride Like the Wind,” along with singalong staples such as Toto’s “Africa,” Looking Glass’ “Brandy,” and Rupert Holmes’ “Escape (The Piña Colada Song).” Their Seas the Day EP was produced and mixed by Grammy winner Chris Lord-Alge, and it introduced the band’s first original, “Sex on the Beach,” paired with a video featuring a cameo by Mario Lopez and direction by Myles Erfurth. National spotlights include HBO’s Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary, Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, the Las Vegas Countdown to 2023 on KLAS and KTLA, numerous morning shows and radio programs, coverage on Fox News, and a milestone performance on SiriusXM’s Yacht Rock 311, with additional appearances at charitable events such as the Mario Lopez Golf Classic Tournament. Recent releases include the holiday EP Seas and Greetings, highlighted by “It’s Christmastime,” which reached the Billboard Adult Contemporary Top 40 and the Billboard holiday charts Top 30, and a new Diane Warren song recorded for an album slated for 2025. The lineup features lead vocalist Phillip Daniel (Philly Ocean), drummer Rob Jones (Sailor Hawkins), bassist Chaz Ruiz (Baba Buoy), guitarist Thomas Gardner Jr. (Tommy Buoy), backing vocalist Curt Clendenin (Stoney Shores), saxophone and flute player Paul Pate (Pauly Shores), and keyboardist Matt Grossman (Matthew McDonald). Yacht Rock celebrates silky soft rock and Top 40 gems from that era, and this show channels that easy-breezy spirit with polished musicianship and warm harmonies.

Salute to America

Greenfield Village comes alive for Salute to America, a night of music that traces 250 years of the nation’s story. In partnership with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, a tradition more than three decades in the making, the celebration highlights the culture, creativity and progress that continue to shape the country. After hours, Main Street features food trucks while the historic 1913 Herschell-Spillman carousel fills the air with music. Presenters in period clothing roam the streets and performance ensembles appear throughout the Village. Across seven historic districts, the sounds range from choral singing and ragtime to Motown, blues and jazz. As darkness falls, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra takes the grand stage for a program honoring America’s 250th anniversary, culminating in Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture followed by cannon fire and a fireworks finale. The orchestra program blends beloved favorites with contemporary voices, including music by John Williams, DSO Composer-in-Residence Michael Abels and Peter Boyer’s American Mosaic, a multimedia experience that brings together live orchestra, narration and large-scale visuals. The second half continues long-standing traditions with Bernstein’s Candide Overture, the 1812 Overture and stirring Sousa marches, inviting reflection on perseverance, creativity and shared history. Throughout the evening, rotating groups spotlight brass, ragtime piano, Motown, blues and jazz. Holiday-inspired scenes and decade vignettes set the tone with moments like a 1976 Bicentennial picnic, 1876 Independence Day yard games and a Juneteenth emancipation celebration. Historic bicycle demonstrations by the Michigan Wheelmen, themed photo opportunities and free rides on the carousel add to the festivities. Tickets are in high demand, so advance online purchase is recommended. A Discount Day offers 15 percent off public tickets and a double discount of 30 percent off member tickets. The new Orchestra Circle Experience adds an elevated buffet and exclusive access to The Lodge at Christie & Main with indoor seating, air conditioning, dedicated restrooms and a cash bar, plus reserved seating near the grand stage and VIP parking in Eagle Lot. Orchestra Circle tickets are sold in advance and are not available on-site or day-of. Cats Young Actors Edition Auditions

Downriver Actors Guild is holding auditions for Cats Young Actors Edition. Participation is by appointment, and preregistration is required. Audition requirements and additional information are available from the organizers. The organization maintains an active commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Casting teams are working to recognize and address implicit bias, and actors representing diversity in race, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic background, body type, and ability are welcome. Although many characters were originally written within a gender binary, gender non conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non binary performers are encouraged to pursue the roles that best align with their identities. The creative team includes producer Krissy Justice, director and choreographer Spencer Genrich, assistant director Rene Dinh, and vocal director Melanie Aue. Those cast will pay a participation fee that helps cover typical production needs such as membership, a script, a show shirt, production photos, and a cast celebration. Cast members are also expected to complete volunteer hours with the 2nd Street Performing Arts Center to support the production, and these hours may begin before auditions. Cats Young Actors Edition is presented through special arrangement with Concord Theatricals, with authorized performance materials supplied by that organization.

Auditions for Disaster!

Auditions are being held for Disaster!, the parody of 1970s catastrophe films powered by a soundtrack of disco and pop favorites. The story unfolds aboard a flashy new casino and discotheque in 1979, where a glamorous crowd collides with a charming ladies’ man with a tender streak, a relentless reporter, a rule-bound disaster scientist, a lounge singer and her quick-switching twin children, a nun grappling with a gambling habit, a once-famous diva short on funds, a scheming owner, and a warmhearted retired couple. Quakes, waves, and fires turn a night of boogie into chaos as everyone fights to survive, rekindle lost love, and steer clear of some surprisingly dangerous creatures. Created by Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick, from a concept by Rudetsky and Drew Geraci with additional material by Geraci, this production is directed by Brian Townsend with music direction by Paul Abbott and choreography by Jenna Williams. Auditions take place at the Players Guild of Dearborn. An audition form and conflict calendar must be completed in advance, including all known or possible scheduling conflicts. Be prepared for movement and dance, wear comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear, and bring tap shoes if you have tap experience. Character ages are approximate, and the Players Guild of Dearborn supports inclusive casting, welcoming performers of all races, ethnicities, identities, and orientations for every role. The casting breakdown features Chad Rubik, Scott, Professor Ted Scheider, Marianne Wilson, Tony Delvecchio, Jackie Noelle, her twins Ben and Lisa portrayed by one actor, Sister Mary Downey, Levora Verona, Shirley and Maury Summers, and an ensemble of party guests who also cover featured bits including a workman, the ship’s chef with a French accent, a bodyguard, a New York taxi driver, a waitress, and a wealthy couple.

Ground Control Classic Film Series (#3)

The Ground Control Classic Film Series continues with a screening of His Girl Friday, hosted by Scottie and Paul. In this screwball newsroom tale, driven editor Walter Burns learns his ex-wife and star reporter Hildy Johnson plans to marry mild-mannered insurance agent Bruce Baldwin. He tempts her back to the beat with a story about the scheduled execution of Earl Williams, and when Hildy suspects Williams could be innocent, her journalistic instincts take charge. Celebrated for its rapid-fire dialogue and the crackling chemistry of Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell, the film barrels ahead once Walter and Hildy cross paths again. Expect laughs, newsroom banter, political shenanigans, and even a few false arrests. The movie is presented on an 85 inch hi-def 4K screen with sound through the Ground Control full range speaker system, with tasty snacks and time to mingle. Advance tickets are $3 with no added fees, or dine at Major Tomato before the show and a large pizza or more earns two free admissions.

Pop 2000 Tour

A nostalgic pop showcase revives the TRL era with Chris Kirkpatrick of *NSYNC performing alongside O-Town, BBMak, LFO, and Ryan Cabrera. The tour stops at District 142 in Wyandotte, MI, celebrating the early 2000s with the songs that defined that moment. Chris Kirkpatrick, a founding member of *NSYNC, also voiced Chip Skylark on The Fairly OddParents and competed in 2022 on Celebrity Big Brother and The Masked Singer. O-Town broke through with the No. 1 singles Liquid Dreams and All or Nothing, and its Top 40 hit We Fit Together earned a 2001 Radio Music Awards Song of the Year nomination. BBMak, featuring Mark Barry, Christian Burns, and Stephen McNally, is known for Back Here, Out of My Heart, and Ghost of You and Me, and Billboard named Back Here the ninth-greatest boy band song of all time. LFO first made waves in 1999 with Summer Girls, followed by Girl on TV and Every Other Time, with Brad Fischetti carrying the group’s legacy for longtime listeners and newer fans. Ryan Cabrera brings On the Way Down, True, and Shine On, along with music from Take It All Away, the 2004 album that reached No. 8 on the Billboard Top 200, and he also appeared prominently on MTV’s Ashlee Simpson Show and The Hills.

MEOW: A Cat Party

Art & Stuff presents a playful celebration of feline fandom that puts cats and the people who adore them in the spotlight. Spend the day painting and sketching whiskered muses, creating feline‑inspired crafts, and browsing art and gifts centered on cats, along with stickers and toys. Assemble your own cat sticker book, sip cocktails with a kitty twist, and trade stories while showing off photos of your companion, including those many nearly identical nap shots on your phone. Guests are encouraged to bring pictures and tales about their pets. Actual cats might not appear and a few stray hairs might, but the energy will be thoroughly cat themed. Whether your companion is a refined little gentleman, a regal ball of fluff, or a chaos artist who nudges water glasses off tables while staring you down, this gathering offers a single, joyfully silly dose of feline fun for anyone who knows who really runs the household.
