MD Concealed Carry Class - Waldorf, MD

Designed for applicants seeking a Maryland Wear and Carry Permit, this course exceeds the state’s training requirements and also satisfies training standards for several other states, including Florida, Arizona, and Pennsylvania. The full, original permit track spans 16 hours across four days, while the renewal option covers 8 hours over two days. Maryland follows a shall issue process, so applicants without a disqualifying background are issued a permit.

Culture for the Kids

At Waldorf West Library, families with children ages 5 to 11 can experience a one-day, interactive arts and learning program led by Charles County resident Roxy Tate. Framed as a pop-up makerspace, the event celebrates African American history as a pathway of creativity, courage, and discovery, with activities offered in two guided sessions across the day. Small groups rotate through four immersive stations inspired by Zora Neale Hurston, Harriet Tubman, George Washington Carver, and Frederick Douglass. Each station provides an engaging environment with a photo opportunity and a hands-on art project that explores themes of imagination, bravery, curiosity, and voice. Through storytelling, observation, creative making, and conversation, children connect historical legacies to their own ideas in meaningful, age-appropriate ways. Parents and caregivers participate alongside their children, encouraging intergenerational learning as facilitators and volunteers guide the experience. Every child leaves with completed artwork and take-home prompts to continue exploring books, history, and creative expression beyond the event. Admission is free, and advance registration is required to ensure supplies for all participants. Families registering multiple children should sign up each child separately. For questions, contact the Waldorf West Branch at 301-645-1395 or westref@ccplonline.org. Supported in part by the Maryland State Arts Council.

High-Density Grazing and Virtual Fence Field Day

Future Harvest and the Million Acre Challenge present a field day workshop at Longview Farm with Penelope Breese. The program introduces the fundamentals of high density grazing, explains how virtual fencing can be applied on pasture, and highlights the Maryland Soil Health Card alongside insights from the Pasa Soil Health Benchmark Study. Longview Farm has been stewarded by the Breese family since the 1940s. Bald eagles nest in nearby woods, and deer, foxes, and wild turkeys are commonly seen. A former tobacco barn now serves as equipment storage, and the remaining tobacco sticks are repurposed as spacers for boards milled from fallen trees that later become fence or barn siding. The Angus herd is raised on grass with kelp and organic minerals and managed with ultra high density, or mob, grazing by moving cattle to fresh pasture twice a day to echo herd movement that supports soil and animal health. Heritage Berkshire and Ossabaw pigs receive a barley and wheat ration and rotate through oak and poplar woods behind portable electric fencing so they can root for natural foods. Hens spend much of the year in floorless mobile pens that are shifted daily onto fresh pasture for natural foraging. This free workshop requires an RSVP. Please dress for the weather. Location details will be provided by email after registration, and a backup plan is in place for inclement weather.

Pepper Spray & Launcher Training and Certification

This civilian training course builds practical confidence with Oleoresin Capsicum options for personal, home, and security protection. Participants explore the range of OC delivery methods, including foggers, foams, streams, gels, powdered agents, and launcher-delivered projectiles, and learn why different situations call for different tools. Instruction emphasizes responsible non-lethal self-defense as a bridge between inaction and deadly force, while highlighting the importance of knowledge and training to avoid a false sense of security. The curriculum covers situational awareness and threat identification, legal considerations, safe handling, effective deployment techniques, and post-incident safety and decontamination. The class concludes with hands-on practice that includes deploying inert pepper spray and conducting launcher drills with inert pepper balls. Successful completion results in a two-year certification. No one is required to experience the effects of pepper spray to earn certification. Practical training supplies are provided for the exercises, including inert spray, a CO2 cartridge, and inert pepper balls.

Participants also examine how a prosecutor may evaluate a case and the jury instructions commonly used in self-defense matters, then apply the material through guided scenario simulations. The session highlights the value of preparing before a crisis, since violent encounters can arise without warning and decisions made in seconds can carry lasting consequences. Limitless Goaltending Summer Camp

Coach Jared Kaufman leads a Limitless Goaltending Summer Camp at Capital Clubhouse, drawing on experience with the University of Buffalo and the Buffalo Sabres practice squad to support youth goalies. Training takes a deep look at what it takes to anchor a team, with work on puck tracking, smart save choices, reading plays, and efficient recovery. Instruction spans foundational skating skills through tactics for handling intense, game-like situations. The coaching approach recognizes that every athlete learns differently, with meaningful one-on-one attention that builds lasting connections between players and coaches and helps goalies perform across levels. Each day follows a consistent rhythm that starts with arrival in athletic wear for off-ice stretching and conditioning, transitions to locker room prep and an extended on-ice skill session, then a quick change, bring-your-own lunch, and a wrap-up of chalk talk and additional off-ice work before departure.
