This hands-on class focuses on planning and finishing scalloped borders for quilts. Participants should bring a quilt top that has been quilted to the edge with a border measuring at least 5.5 inches that finishes at 5 inches. Simple quilting, such as a meander, works well. Because this is a learning project, consider practicing on a less formal quilt. Any size is fine, from baby to king, and a Love Wrapper can also be used. Instruction covers how to measure the quilt to determine the number of scallops, how to make a scallop template, and how to draft the pattern with plain paper and a rotary cutter. The class also includes making binding and attaching it by machine or by hand for a polished finish. A $5 pattern purchase is required. Class size is limited.

LaSport Cycling Club is hosting a three-race mini series designed to help new riders experience mountain bike racing in a welcoming setting. All races take place at 1 North Adventure Trails in Blanchard, with courses planned to pass through spectator areas multiple times so supporters can catch plenty of the action. The first race uses a dirt criterium format that blends fast double track around the lake with flowing singletrack on a loop of about three miles. Laps vary by category, with First Time Racers doing 2, Novice 3, e-bike and Sport 4, and Expert 5. The second race moves onto a green loop to add a touch of technical riding while keeping things smooth and short enough to focus on fundamentals, and it may include a unique twist to be announced. The third race follows a traditional cross country style and incorporates more of the trail network, with distances to be determined. This series is geared toward newcomers and beginners to build confidence and experience, strengthen the local cycling community, and encourage interest in regional events around NWLA.

Juice & Paint: Kids' Natural Plant Painting Class! 🧃🌿🎨

Young homesteaders explore how nature makes color in a sensory-friendly art class hosted by Holistic Homesteaders Healing and Wellness at Blanchard Baptist Prayer Garden And Walking Track. Children experiment with everyday plants, fruits, and spices to craft their own 100% natural, non-toxic watercolor paints, learning an earth science lesson about plant pigments along the way. Ingredients such as hibiscus, turmeric, and berries become vivid pinks, yellows, and purples, then are brushed onto paper to create botanical artwork to take home. A child’s ticket includes all supplies like watercolor paper, brushes, and palettes, the natural materials for paint, a juice box, and a homestead-inspired snack. Because plant dyes can stain, sending kids in play clothes or providing a smock or old oversized T-shirt is recommended. Space is limited to ensure plenty of hands-on help. Members of the Holistic Homesteaders Monthly Membership receive discounted access to classes throughout the year.

Fire & Fun Summer Art Camp Ages 8-12 (Glassblowing, Painting, Paper Clay & Much More)

Hosted by Earthlizard Designs and High Gravity Glassworks, this weeklong camp invites young artists ages 8 to 12 to explore glassblowing, mosaics, painting, sculpture, and plenty of creative discovery. Campers learn to shape molten glass into original pieces and experiment with fused glass, painting on glass, clay work, and mixed media. Each day features guided projects that build problem solving skills and encourage self expression. By the end of the week, participants take home a collection of their own artwork, from handmade glass pieces to vibrant mosaics and painted creations. The program includes five completed glass projects with two glassblowing workshops, one fused glass piece, one mosaic using glass tiles, and a painting on glass. Additional hands on activities cover painting, drawing, mixed media, and clay. While waiting for their turn, campers can stay engaged with coloring and learning sheets, a Lego table, and a make and take station that keeps creativity flowing all day. The hot shop is climate controlled, starting around 75°F and warming to about 85°F by midday. The reheating chamber runs at 2100°F during hot glass sessions, but the room does not exceed 100°F. Hot glass activities take place in the morning, then the reheating chamber is turned off to maintain comfort. All other activities occur in a fully air conditioned gallery. Recommended attire includes closed toe shoes, natural fiber clothing, and outfits that can get messy. Shorts and tank tops are fine. Parents have designated drop off and pickup windows, doors remain locked throughout the day, and a $30 fee applies if pickup is 30 minutes or more late. Instruction is led by Michelle Pennington, owner of High Gravity Glassworks and a professional glassblower with 18 years of experience who holds a BFA in Graphic Design from Bowling Green State University and an MFA from the University of Texas at Arlington, and by Liz Elley, owner of Earthlizard Designs and a certified art teacher with 14 years of K–12 classroom experience who holds a Bachelor of Art Education from Louisiana Tech University and specializes in painting and mixed media.
