French Quarter Museum Heritage Night

French Quarter Museum Heritage Night invites visitors to experience a no-cost evening of museums, memory, and American stories in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary. Across the French Quarter, member institutions of the French Quarter Museum Association offer free entry and special programs that reflect on 250 years of change and innovation while spotlighting the many ways New Orleans and its people have influenced the country’s progress. At the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum, housed in the former home of Louis Dufilho, Jr., recognized as America’s first licensed pharmacist, exhibits trace the development of pharmacy and medicine since Louisiana adopted medical licensure in 1816. The museum highlights how early licensing emerged from both a need for regulation and the exchange of knowledge among cultures, including enslaved, Indigenous, and free communities whose contributions were often overlooked. A new exhibition takes a closer look at what it means to be considered licensed and who has historically been left out of that definition. The evening at the Pharmacy Museum features refreshments in the historic courtyard paired with time to explore the new exhibit. Later, docents Owen Ever and Annika Bell lead short, repeating tours that illuminate the building’s history, Dufilho’s legacy, the rise of medical licensure in 19th century New Orleans, and the barriers created for exploited communities by prevailing standards of adequacy for licensure. Tours recur frequently and last about 15 minutes.

39th Louisiana Senior Four-Ball Championship

Chateau Golf & Country Club in Kenner, Louisiana hosts a 36-hole four-ball stroke play championship for senior amateurs, played over two days with scratch scoring and no handicaps. Two-person teams compete for the state title, and a concurrent Super Senior division is available for players 65 and older who will use a forward tee setup and compete only within their division. The field is limited to the first 80 teams, with 18 holes each day and second-round pairings based on round-one scores. Age-group placement is determined by the younger teammate. Eligibility is open to Louisiana residents for at least 90 days prior who are amateur golfers under USGA guidelines and members in good standing of an LGA member club, with entrants at least 50 years of age by the stated cutoff. Non‑amateurs are not eligible, and entries may be declined for reasons including unbecoming conduct. The entry fee is $400 per two‑man team and includes cart fees for the practice round and tournament play. Written withdrawals made before entries close receive refunds; after the close of entries, refunds are granted only for injury or illness with a doctor’s statement. A $70 service charge is deducted from all refunds. Practice privileges are available to competitors at the host course on the designated practice day, with the cart fee covered by the LGA. Pairings and starting times for the first round will be posted at the host club, shared on the LGA website, and emailed to participants. Competitors must be neat in appearance and wear appropriate golf attire. Gym shorts, cutoffs, blue jeans, and tee shirts are not permitted, and shorts must be Bermuda length. The course is spikeless, so spikeless shoes are required. Prizes will be awarded to the top five teams overall and the top three teams in the Super Senior division. Ties for those titles will be decided by a sudden-death playoff immediately after play, and all other ties will be broken by matching scorecards under the USGA method. Play is governed by the current USGA Rules of Golf and the LGA Rules of Play Card, with rulings made by the LGA Rules Committee.
