This free slow speed motorcycle skills practice welcomes riders of all experience levels and all makes and models. The focus is on precise control at a walking pace using the clutch, throttle, and brakes while navigating cone patterns that build confidence and prevent drops. Riders can work on individual problem areas, with tailored setups created on the spot to help overcome specific challenges. New balance and slow-riding drills strengthen clutch, throttle, and rear brake coordination. Portions of the Illinois DMV test are set up, including the cone weave, a right-hand turn, and a left-hand U-turn. Beginner to intermediate exercises include tight U-turns in both directions at 18 to 22 feet, a keyhole circle starting at 30 feet wide, a figure eight at 24 feet wide, a W pattern with 9 to 12 foot lanes, and an intersection pattern 18 to 24 feet wide that involves four U-turns one way and four in the other. Cone weaves range from 10 to 15 feet apart and may be offset from 2 to 12 feet. As skills improve, riders can sample intermediate to expert police patterns or refine existing techniques. Requirements are similar to an MSF class. Bring your own motorcycle and be prepared to sign a waiver. A DOT helmet and over-ankle boots or shoes are required, and long sleeves and gloves are preferred.
