Kid's Art Contest -- Design Our New Kid's Shirts, Win A $100 Gift Card & More

Children can depict The Olympic, the fireplace or the Moose, or another signature feature of the space. After a month of entries, one design will be printed on the shirts. The Hope & Anchor Comedy Night

Settle in at The Hope & Anchor for a night of stand-up with a host, a feature, and a headliner. There is a $10 cover. For a table reservation or to ask about walk-up availability, call The Hope & Anchor at 815-633-2552 during normal business hours. Hosting is Michael Palmenderi, known for energetic, physical comedy that touches on living with chronic pain, breaking into song like a musical, and being hairy in a world that prefers otherwise. He has a theatre background, trained at The Second City Chicago and completed its Conservatory, and has appeared in multiple productions across the Chicagoland area. The main feature, Lou Palomino, is a Chicago native turned small-town family man whose material explores marriage, parenting, and the frustrations of everyday life. He started stand-up in his late 30s, delivering a conversational, story-driven style that feels like catching up with an old friend. His clean, relatable approach has made him a regular at Peoria’s Jukebox Comedy Club, and he has hosted or featured for April Macie, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Ben Bailey, Jay Mohr, and Greg Hahn. Headlining is Leslie Mitchell, a Midwestern comic with a joyful spirit and a strong affection for cheeseburgers. She has performed around the country, opening for Dave Attell, Roy Wood Jr., Bobcat Goldthwait, Adrienne Iapalucci, Geoffrey Asmus, and Mary Mack. A former "Funniest Person in Iowa" winner, her set zeroes in on Gen X touchstones... nostalgia, marriage, menopause, and those walk-into-a-room-and-forget-why moments. She performs solo stand-up and is also one third of the long-running improv troupe Wisenheimer.

Stern Army- POKEMON- Launch Party Double Tournament

Louie’s Tap House hosts a Stern Army POKEMON launch party with two pinball tournaments. The first tournament features qualifying that leads into playoffs. Each participant receives one free game on POKEMON, and that score counts toward qualifying. The highest four scores advance, or eight if there are more than forty players. America 250 Planting Day

The eighth annual all-volunteer planting brings the community together to beautify Veterans Memorial Circle, the veterans memorial that borders the Main and Auburn roundabout, with thousands of flowers. In recognition of the nation’s 250th birthday, the circular bed beneath the flag will display 250 spelled out in white vinca as a special centerpiece. This event takes place rain or shine. There are no assigned shifts and no advance registration. Participants sign in at the green tent in front of Greenwood Cemetery and stay as long as they are able. Tools, safety vests, gloves, water, and snacks are provided, including M&Ms and mini Hershey bars inspired by classic military rations. After check-in, volunteers are directed to work zones that may include the circle under the flag at the center of the roundabout, the fronts of the four monument walls, the medians to the north and south on North Main Street, the long bed on Auburn Street in front of Greenwood Cemetery, and the bed at the entrance to the municipal parking lot on the south side of the roundabout. Groups of family members, co-workers, or community organizations can be placed in the same zone by contacting project supervisor Ernie Redfern at ernie@rockfordveteranscircle.org or 312-404-6452. If preferred, bring your own labeled gardening tools and gloves. Parking is available at Greenwood Cemetery near the Auburn Street entrance and on side streets in the northeast, southeast, and southwest quadrants of the roundabout. The city parking lot on the southeast side of the roundabout becomes available when North End City Market has closed. For questions, contact project co-chairs Ernie Redfern at ernie@rockfordveteranscircle.org or 312-404-6452, or Helen Redfern at helen@rockfordveteranscircle.org or 708-420-0800.

Tracing Presence

At The RPL Nordlof Center, this mindfulness-centered art workshop invites participants to slow down and create with intention. It begins with a calming grounding exercise, then moves into a hand-tracing activity where each person uses color, words, and simple patterns to capture what they are thinking and feeling in the moment. The focus stays on present-moment awareness rather than artistic technique. The session concludes with a gentle reflection to name something to carry forward and something to let go.
