April Grounded at Alpine Hills - A Yoga Series

Local instructor Marie Bridges leads a calm, one hour yoga flow at the Alpine Hills Adventure Park Lodge. The practice blends Yin and Vinyasa to connect breath and movement through a mindful sequence that builds strength, increases flexibility, and encourages presence. Spring ‘26 Fresh Meat Program

Rockford Rage Roller Derby presents a six-week introductory program that helps new skaters build confidence and learn the fundamentals of roller derby. Sessions take place twice each week over the course of the program. Participants must be 18 or older and out of high school. Required gear includes quad roller skates, a helmet, elbow pads, wrist guards, knee pads, and a mouthguard. Registration involves completing a form and submitting a $60 fee, with cash accepted on the day, and including your full name and pronouns with the payment. Founded in 2006, Rockford Rage Roller Derby is the first and only nonprofit roller derby league in Rockford, and its members also volunteer for local causes and raise funds for other area nonprofits. The program offers a welcoming space to learn, practice, and connect.

Reset Round Table offers a guided community conversation about the ingredients and potential toxins in everyday personal care and household products. The discussion looks at what may be in items such as deodorant, skincare, laundry detergent, and cleaning supplies, how routine exposure can relate to hormones, skin, and overall wellness, and what labels like natural, clean, and non-toxic actually mean. Attendees will hear straightforward ideas for simple swaps and learn how to begin making safer choices without tossing everything at once. Bruce Katz Band at Mary's Place

The Bruce Katz Band performs at Mary's Place in Rockford. The group is led by keyboardist Bruce Katz, whose credits include tours with The Allman Brothers Band and six years as a member of Gregg Allman's band. Katz began playing piano at age five and later taught at Berklee College of Music for 14 years.

This session features Spotlight Speaker Nick Povalitis, founder of Plus Seven Company, LLC (P7c), a sports and entertainment agency headquartered in Rockford, Illinois. Through its properties and services divisions, P7c works across events, branding, partnerships, public relations, and tourism advisory, collaborating with major global brands and organizations. Povalitis’s event, fundraising, and marketing and PR work includes the Rockford Boxing Classic, 815HORTS Film Festival, Rockford Hero Rumble, World Breaking Classic USA, and the International Women Baseball Center. He also founded the nonprofit Founders Commission, a 501(c)(3) that celebrates and leverages the Rockford region’s strengths in business, arts and entertainment, and sports to drive brand, economic, and social good. Since 2023, Founders Commission has grown its impact through the annual DIAMONDS gala, more than $20,000 in donations to local nonprofits, the DIAMONDS Scholar post-secondary scholarship program, and the Founders Commission’s Rockford Region Hall of Fame.

14th Annual David H. Caskey Memorial Lecture

Now in its fourteenth year, the David H. Caskey Memorial Lecture offers a free public talk and conversation on the intersections of playfulness, humor, and philosophy, inviting attendees to consider how playful thinking can be taken seriously. The keynote speaker is Chris Kramer, Assistant Professor and chair of philosophy at Santa Barbara City College, whose work includes the philosophy of education and mind, religion, informal logic, existentialism and phenomenology, oppression, and the philosophy of humor. His doctoral research, titled “Subversive Humor,” explores humor alongside structures of oppression. The program takes place at the RVC Main Campus in the Physical Education Center gym and concludes with a Q&A. Body Safety & Beyond

An in-person program focused on practical body safety education and everyday confidence for families. Presented by the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford MERIT Program, the session features Kimberly King, a best-selling author and award-winning prevention educator with an M.S. Ed. Created for parents, caregivers, and anyone raising children, especially ages 0 to 14, it moves beyond simple stranger-danger messages to deliver clear, age-appropriate strategies that strengthen children’s confidence, safety, and communication. Participants learn how to begin and continue body safety conversations using straightforward language. Topics include teaching boundaries and body autonomy, spotting potential red flags, recognizing grooming behaviors, navigating online safety, and helping children identify and communicate with trusted adults. Attendees can expect to leave with practical tools and greater readiness for these important discussions at home. Capacity is limited. This program is intended for adults, and childcare is not available. Admission is free thanks to support from the Winnebago County Community Mental Health Board and the voter-approved half-cent mental health sales tax.

POWERFULL Father's Group

POWERFULL is a men’s group for fathers at Ken-Rock Center that emphasizes showing up with no excuses, no ego, and no spectators. The focus is on being more present for kids, breaking generational cycles, and leaning into personal growth even when it feels uncomfortable. A meal is provided.

Olympic Tavern's 3rd Beefsteak Banquet

The third Beefsteak Banquet at The Olympic Tavern embraces the classic no napkins, no silverware approach, with a focus on hearty cuts of meat. For two hours, attendees enjoy all-you-can-eat filet mignon, ribeye, prime rib, pork chops, sausage, and other meat-based options. Meat is served on toast points that are collected rather than eaten, and everyone takes home a custom apron. This is a ticketed event that includes two Whiskey Acres drinks, and guests must be 21 or older. The format nods to the historic Beefsteak gatherings that once filled saloons and political halls in the 19th and early 20th centuries, where sliced steak on toast with jus or gravy was eaten without forks, plates, or napkins, a custom that faded after World War II. Vegetarians are asked to sit this one out, with a special vegetarian dinner to follow later in the spring.

Stern Army- POKEMON- Launch Party Double Tournament

Louie’s Tap House hosts a Stern Army POKEMON launch party with two pinball tournaments. The first tournament features qualifying that leads into playoffs. Each participant receives one free game on POKEMON, and that score counts toward qualifying. The highest four scores advance, or eight if there are more than forty players. Playoffs span four games, with the final game played on POKEMON. Practice games on POKEMON are not permitted during qualifying. For this tournament only, the $1 IFPA fee is covered. Expect prizes and giveaways, and the champion earns a Launch Party Grand Champion plaque. The second tournament starts with a 7 strike progressive knockout. Once the field is reduced to four or eight competitors, a double elimination playoff follows for the top 4 or 8 qualifiers, implemented if there are 24 or more players and based on attendance. If four players reach the finals, the winners bracket uses best of three matches and the losers bracket uses single game matches. If eight players reach the finals, all matches are single game in both winners and losers brackets. Payouts go to the top four finishers at 40, 30, 20, and 10 percent. The entry fee is $5, which includes the $1 IFPA fee, plus coin drop. Both tournaments are IFPA approved. Sponsored by Rockford Pinball, Toad Hall Books and Records, and Louie’s Tap House.

Rockford Park District’s Lockwood Park welcomes the community to a country-style Derby Day with a variety of activities. In the spirit of the Kentucky Derby, guests are encouraged to wear their fanciest hats. Atwood Park staff will present a free Birds of Prey show in the tent near the Big Country Shelter. Each child’s package includes a personal Death Star themed pizza, galactic gelato, a Yoda Soda with a candy rock stir stick, a mask and an inflatable light saber, star stickers, the scavenger hunt, and a prize for completing it. Matches are played as best of three, and an optional sideboard of up to eight cards can be swapped between games as long as normal deckbuilding limits are followed. The prize pool grows with attendance, adding two packs from the current set for every registered player. Each participant receives one booster and a Nexus Night pack, and the remaining packs go to the top finishers.

Big Brew 2026 - Urban Forest

National Homebrew Day was formally recognized in 1988, and the American Homebrewers Association created Big Brew as a yearly, worldwide celebration held on the first Saturday in May, when homebrew clubs gather to brew and celebrate together. This year, the gathering returns to Urban Forest Craft Brewing, where brewers are encouraged to bring their equipment and brew on site. There is plenty of room, with water hookups and standard electrical outlets available, although 220/240 volt service is not provided. HMS Greenhouse Plant Sale

This annual, self-funded plant sale highlights the work of HMS 7th grade Life Science students. First Tuesday Lecture Series - LGBTQIA+ Community College Students Lived Experiences

Professor Moria Nagy leads a lecture in the First Tuesday series that examines LGBTQIA+ community college students enrolled in science courses. Drawing on a study conducted across multiple institutions, the program explores students’ lived experiences with science identity and sense of belonging. These themes are recognized as key influences on retention and academic success across many minoritized student populations. The lecture is offered in the Stenstrom Student Center Atrium or virtually via Zoom.

Evening Storytime

Tuesday evenings feature stories and music, with a bit of coloring to wrap things up. This weekly storytime meets in the Children's Area and helps preschoolers build listening skills while also entertaining kindergarteners and first graders. Books shared during the session count toward 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, 300 Books Before Third Grade, and other RPL reading programs such as the Summer Reading Challenge. Teen Group Hope

This supportive gathering is for teens who are navigating anxiety, depression, or other mental health challenges. Stern Army- 1st Thursdays @ Louie's Tap House- May

A Stern Army pinball tournament at Louie's Tap House features group match play qualifiers and a knockout finale. Competitors play three qualifying rounds, each using two-game banks in group format. After qualifying, a two or three strike knockout determines final standings. Depending on turnout and available time, finals may include the top four under a lenient setting or the top eight under a strict setting when there are at least 16 players. Prize money is paid to the top four finishers with a 40 percent, 30 percent, 20 percent and 10 percent split. The tournament fee is $5 and includes a $1 IFPA fee, plus coin drop. America 250 Planting Day

The eighth annual all-volunteer planting brings the community together to beautify Veterans Memorial Circle, the veterans memorial that borders the Main and Auburn roundabout, with thousands of flowers. In recognition of the nation’s 250th birthday, the circular bed beneath the flag will display 250 spelled out in white vinca as a special centerpiece. This event takes place rain or shine. There are no assigned shifts and no advance registration. Participants sign in at the green tent in front of Greenwood Cemetery and stay as long as they are able. Tools, safety vests, gloves, water, and snacks are provided, including M&Ms and mini Hershey bars inspired by classic military rations. After check-in, volunteers are directed to work zones that may include the circle under the flag at the center of the roundabout, the fronts of the four monument walls, the medians to the north and south on North Main Street, the long bed on Auburn Street in front of Greenwood Cemetery, and the bed at the entrance to the municipal parking lot on the south side of the roundabout. Demo Day

Rocktown Adventure hosts a paddlesports demo day to get the season underway on the water. Try kayaks, canoes, and stand up paddleboards in guided sessions of about 10 to 15 minutes, with paddlesports staff sharing technique tips so you can compare options and find the right fit. The fee is $20 and will be credited toward a kayak, canoe, or SUP purchase. The demo area is next to Prairie Street Brewhouse, a convenient option for a meal or a beer after your time on the water. When registering, include the make and model of the kayak you would like to test.

May Craft Club

Presented by the Rockford Park District's Outdoor Education and Recreation department, this monthly Craft Club explores nature-inspired projects while teaching introductory techniques. Each two-hour session stands on its own yet complements others in the series, and gatherings rotate seasonally between the Atwood Center and the lodge at Alpine Hills Adventure Park. The May installment centers on the historic craft of creating a feather quill and blending natural, plant-based inks. Community Sauna Session

At BloomFest at Womanspace of Rockford, experience a community wood-fired sauna paired with a refreshing cold plunge. Each session lasts 60 minutes and is self guided, so you can choose a time slot and move between heat, cold, rest, and hydration at a pace that suits you. Sessions are shared, with space to sauna alongside up to five other participants in each time slot. Those seeking extra privacy can secure all seats within a session. Wear attire you are comfortable getting hot and wet in, bring a towel and a water bottle, and consider slip-on shoes for easy transitions between spaces. Beyond the sauna, BloomFest features an artisan market with locally made goods, plant sales including annuals and perennials, live music, food and beverage trucks, free yoga and meditation, kids and community art activities, wellness practitioners, and peaceful grounds. May Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader: Farewell to 10th!

Marking the final regular Rogue Trader for Warhammer 40,000 10th Edition, this event features three rounds at 2,000 points. Each round will use a mission generated from one of the three 10th Edition chapter approved mission packs, and secondary missions will follow the 2025-2026 Chapter Approved set. Rules in play include any Dataslates, FAQs, and Index or Codex materials that have fully released by the Saturday before the start. Entry is $40.

It blends easygoing mini-golf fun with meaningful support for a cause that helps local families.

Riftbound Weekly Nexus Night

Entry is $10. This event focuses on Riftbound Constructed, where decks contain 40 cards with no more than three copies of any single card, plus 1 Legend, 3 Battlefields, and 12 Runes. Matches are best of three. You may use a sideboard of up to eight cards to adjust between games, and all sideboard choices must follow the same deckbuilding limits. Prize support scales with attendance, adding two packs from the current set to the pool for each registered player. Sharing is optional, and there is no pressure to appear fine. Participants may talk, listen, or simply sit quietly, and all forms of participation are respected. The Hope & Anchor marks twelve years with a night of stand up featuring headliner Raegan Niemela. The Milwaukee based comedian has worked stages across the country, from established clubs to unusual rooms. Her appearances include festivals such as the Milwaukee Comedy Festival, B4U Die in Anchorage, and High Planes in Denver, and she has opened for Steph Tolev, Jackie Kashian, Dan Soder, Kyle Kinane, and Nicole Byer. Pop-Up in the Parks: See You At The Circus

A circus-themed milestone marks the tenth Pop-Up in the Parks as the parking lot at Machesney Park Mall transforms into a lively summer carnival market. Expect DJ Petey P spinning favorite hits, a fleet of food trucks from the 815 and beyond, and more than 150 local vendors for a shop-small showcase. Families can enjoy kid-focused activities under the tent, along with permanent jewelry, henna tattoos, hair tinsel, and a DIY trucker hat bar. The atmosphere is set for festive energy, tasty bites, unique finds, and plenty of surprises throughout the event.

Deer Run - July Sunday Ride

A Sunday trail ride takes place at Deer Run Forest Preserve. Participants gather first, then mount up and head out on the trails together. A Winnebago County tag is required for this location.
