Gua Sha Assisted Massage: 4-hour CE

This four-hour continuing education workshop is designed for licensed massage therapists as well as anyone interested in learning Gua Sha for personal use. It explores how traditional Gua Sha can be integrated with modern massage to boost effectiveness while reducing strain on the practitioner. The session explains the roots of the method, noting that gua refers to gentle scraping and sha describes the temporary redness that can appear as circulation increases. In a massage context the application is typically light, aiming for visible results with little to no bruising, and it is presented as a quick way to ease adhesions and movement restrictions. Participants learn to hold and use tools with efficient body mechanics, practice massage techniques that complement the approach, and discover safe ways to incorporate it into client work and self-care. The format blends lecture, discussion, demonstration, and extensive hands-on practice, with time for observation and questions to build confidence in using the skills right away. Please bring a set of sheets, a bolster, a massage table with a face cradle, a preferred massage medium, and a pen or pencil. Bringing personal Gua Sha tools is optional, as a variety of tools in different materials, sizes, and shapes will be available to borrow. A buffalo horn tool can be purchased for $10 in cash on a first come, first served basis, with no obligation to buy.

LITTLE FEAT: THE LAST FAREWELL TOUR

Little Feat marks a career spanning more than five decades with a farewell tour that highlights a deep songbook, including “Dixie Chicken,” “Oh, Atlanta,” “Willin’,” and “Fat Man in the Bathtub.” The group’s blend of rock, New Orleans swamp boogie, jazz, and blues anchors the set, reflecting a history that began when Frank Zappa encouraged Lowell George to start a band. George teamed with Bill Payne and Richie Hayward, later joined by Kenny Gradney, Sam Clayton, Paul Barrere, and Fred Tackett, and the era produced the acclaimed live album Waiting for Columbus. The journey has included the losses of Lowell George in 1979, Richie Hayward in 2010, and Paul Barrere in 2019. Scott Sharrard and Tony Leone are now part of the lineup, and the band recently released a new album of original songs titled Strike Up the Band. What began as a side venture has grown into a larger ensemble with a rotating lineup of Chicago-area musicians. Onstage, they offer a lively mix of Americana and bluegrass, blending rich harmonies with nimble instrumentation and a clear love of performing live. The set can shift from gentle, folk-rooted pieces to driving bluegrass, depending on the moment. Their catalog reaches from time-honored traditional tunes to modern hits and original songs. Full band shows often add textures like upright bass, dobro, and banjo, creating an energetic sound built for the room.

ART CLASH 2026!

Art Clash returns in 2026 with the Fox Valley’s biggest live painting competition. This edition embraces the theme Verdant, featuring multiple rounds where the crowd selects two favorite paintings from each clash and eight artists ultimately move on to the City Final. A refreshed format changes how painters advance. After each preliminary round, a portion of the field is eliminated based on audience votes, with the number tied to how many artists are competing. The second round cuts rely on combined votes from both preliminary rounds. In the final, earlier points are cleared and any remaining painter can take the win. Cash prizes are on the line. Side Street Studio Arts provides and requires the use of paint, canvases, cleaning supplies, and easels. Additional mark-making tools such as markers are permitted only if supplied by Side Street and may be requested in advance, though availability is not guaranteed since the focus remains on painting. Artists may bring their own brushes, but no other special equipment, tools, or supplies. The program follows a Pay What You Can model. An $18 contribution reflects the true cost, yet contributions above or below that amount are welcome based on individual circumstances, and every gift helps sustain the space and the work happening there. Artists do not pay to compete.

A ROCK ‘N ROLL TRIBUTE: FROM ELVIS TO THE BEATLES featuring THE NEVERLY BROTHERS

The Neverly Brothers deliver a rock and roll tribute that plays like a guided, virtual journey through the genre’s birth, near decline, and revival between 1955 and 1965. Presented in chronological order, the concert blends rock history and behind-the-scenes stories with energetic performances and vintage costume changes. The first half honors the American pioneers of the 1950s whose influence endured even as their hits faded by 1960, inspiring a new wave of young British bands. The second half turns to the 1964 British Invasion, where groups reimagined overlooked U.S. rock and early 1960s rhythm and blues, added original songs, and helped reignite the music for a new generation. Expect spirited renditions of classics associated with Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones, with favorites such as Great Balls of Fire, Johnny B. Goode, Wake Up Little Susie, Summertime Blues, That’ll Be the Day, Twist and Shout, Roll Over Beethoven, Satisfaction, You Really Got Me, and Love Potion No. 9.

First Time Home Buyer Seminar

At Stoll Real Estate, a seminar for first-time home buyers offers practical guidance on moving from renting to owning, with a focus on loans, grants, and navigating closing with confidence. Light food and refreshments are provided. Attendees are eligible for incentives valued at up to $2,000, including savings on a home inspection, attorney and lender fees, and a commission rebate that can be applied toward closing costs. A Q&A covers key financing topics such as what it takes to qualify for a mortgage, how to secure a competitive interest rate, determining an affordable budget, the difference between down payments and closing costs, how points work, ways to improve credit, options for co-buyers with different credit profiles, and the distinction between pre-approval and pre-qualification along with why it matters. The discussion also outlines the buying process, including strategies for getting the best price, typical fees, when to begin touring, how an agent negotiates an offer, the steps involved in closing, and the role of a home inspection. Market insights address inventory trends, how long it may take to find a property, where prices may be headed, and how the NAR lawsuit settlement could affect buyers. The session is presented by Andrew Stoll, Managing Broker and Owner of Stoll Real Estate with 12 years of experience in the Chicagoland market and a ranking in the top 4 percent of area Realtors, and by Tariq “TK” Khwaja, a lender with more than a decade of experience recognized in Chicago Agent Magazine’s Who’s Who each year since 2013 and featured as a Power Player in Michigan Avenue Magazine. If attending is not possible, one-on-one consultations with Andrew are available to review the home buying process and access the listed incentives.

Croce, a songwriter, pianist, and multi-instrumentalist with more than three decades of touring and eleven studio albums, brings his Croce Plays Croce concert for an evening that connects generations through song. The set blends Jim Croce landmarks such as "Operator", "You Don't Mess Around with Jim", "Bad Bad Leroy Brown", and "Time in a Bottle" with A.J.'s own originals, framed by stories, humor, and skilled musicianship that illuminate both catalogs. Known for weaving together American roots, rock and roll, blues, jazz, soul, and world influences, he has placed over 20 songs on Billboard Top 40 charts across genres and has shared stages with Ray Charles, B.B. King, James Brown, Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, and Rod Stewart. As Jim Croce's son, he chose to wait thirty years before performing his father's music, launching this tour when he found a thoughtful way to honor that legacy. The tour has been selling out shows around the country, with standing ovations and positive reviews.
