Ninja Open Play: Monday April 27

Open play on an indoor obstacle course is available for ages 4 through adult. No pre-registration is needed, so participants can drop in and see if the experience is a good fit before choosing to register for a class. Wristbands are offered for either one hour at $8 or two hours at $12, and each purchase counts as one entry in the April Open Play Giveaway. A monthly history discussion group gathers on the final Monday for welcoming conversations about a shared read. New participants are welcome. Get assistance scanning your old printed photos. You can sign up for an appointment to get help with the librarys scanner. Discover how to scan photos and save them to a USB drive or cloud storage. Growing Cut Flowers Workshop

At D.C. Cobb’s Huntley, a one-night whiskey pairing dinner with Jim Beam Suntory serving as host showcases bold flavors, premium spirits, and a fully guided tasting. The experience features four handcrafted whiskey cocktails, with a welcome cocktail included, paired with three curated courses designed to highlight the character of Jim Beam and Suntory Global Spirits. Open Mic Night

This event features live performances with no cover charge, a 50 50 raffle, and the bar will be serving. Each participant may perform up to three songs, and the opportunity is open to adults as well as teens ages 14 to 18. Music will get underway as performers take their turns.

WEEKLY BINGO NIGHT @ DC COBB'S MCHENRY!

Weekly bingo returns to DC Cobb's McHenry with games hosted by Meghan. It is free to play and open to all ages. Each round crowns a winner with prizes such as food coupons, gift cards, drink tokens and more. The blackout round leads to a spin of the prize wheel. Every round features three prize tiers, and the fewer numbers called, the bigger the reward. A grand prize winner is selected once per month after the blackout round, limited to participants 21 and older, with prizes that can include TVs, prize baskets, gift cards, tickets and more. Spring and Summer Theme Painting Party

The Holiday Inn Chicago NW Crystal Lake Conv Ctr becomes a lively midway for an evening of fun in support of a good cause. Guests can relax, connect, and try classic carnival games for prizes as the playful spirit of the midway fills the space. Carnival-themed appetizers and a cash bar accompany attractions that include a silent auction, a wine pull, and other surprise chances to win. Riverwalk Shoppes Ribbon Cutting

A ribbon cutting marks the opening of the Riverwalk Shoppes for the 2026 season. OOFOS Shindig

Explore OOFOS sandals with a focus on fit and feel. The event showcases options suitable for everyday wear, as house shoes, or for poolside use, and attendees can try on different styles in person. A raffle will be held for a chance to win a free pair of OOFOS sandals.

Working Equitation Camp May 1st-3rd

A three day Working Equitation camp tailored to each horse and rider, welcoming all experience levels. With two instructors, participants can expect plenty of individual attention and should plan to spend meaningful time in the saddle. Instruction is led by Karen, a judge and technical delegate with multiple national and regional championships, and Mike, a multi-time national and regional champion who holds a USAWE Silver Medal. The camp begins with the Dressage phase, working through appropriate tests and movements and offering targeted exercises to build skills. The second day focuses on obstacles, starting with practice on individual elements and progressing to several short practice courses. On the final day, riders bring everything together in a relaxed schooling show to try out newly developed skills. Coaching support is available as needed, and Karen and Mike will walk the Ease of Handling course with participants to offer strategy and guidance. The schooling show is limited to 10 riders. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. The fee is $450 for all three days and includes a dry stall for the clinic, or $200 per day with a stall included. Discussion may include thoughts about one’s own end of life, remembering people who have died, and acknowledging the inevitability of death. Participation is open to everyone, and tea with snacks will be available. A suggested donation of $10 is requested. The event information also includes background on Tona Kast, a Colorado native and longtime Crystal Lake resident connected with the Blue Lotus Temple community. She retired after a career as a program manager, completed Death Doula certification through the University of Vermont, and volunteers as a hospice care companion with Journey Care Hospice. Her interests include time outdoors, gardening, exploring thrift and estate sales, travel, reading, decorating, yoga, and time with family that includes adult children and a granddaughter. She values candid dialogue about death as a meaningful spiritual journey and supports conversations that bring comfort and reduce fear.

Beginner Level-Baby Deer- Crystal Lake

Create a beginner friendly Baby Deer painting at Crystal Lake Park District with step by step guidance from professional artist Julie Kukreja. This workshop is open to all ages, with a suggested minimum of 7, and works well for a parent and child. Dreams Take Flight! - A Concert of Choral Masterworks

New this year is Rosemary’s Muffin Mile in collaboration with Black Market Bakery, where runners enjoy a muffin before starting, cover the mile, then savor another near the finish. The fastest Muffin Miler will be recognized with a special prize during the awards ceremony. The event honors community champion Bob Blazier, affectionately known as Mr. Crystal Lake. MCYSA marks the start of its 33rd annual Summer International Baseball Tournament, welcoming 80 to 90 teams from across the United States as well as Japan, Brazil, Puerto Rico, and Canada, with games taking place throughout McHenry County, including in Woodstock. Drum Circle

A welcoming drum circle invites participants to create music together through spontaneous improvisation. It is free to attend, all experience levels are welcome, and a $5 donation is suggested. There is no designated leader. A facilitator usually starts a clear, easy rhythm, then the collective sound grows naturally, giving everyone room to contribute and explore personal creativity within the group’s pulse. The circle features a wide range of sounds from hand drums such as frame or hoop drums, djembes, congas, bongos, doumbeks, darbukas, and ashikos, along with percussion including maracas, claves, tambourines, gongs, tongue drums, bells, singing bowls, and rainsticks. The emphasis is on listening, responding, and building a shared groove in a supportive setting. Research has linked group drumming with a variety of benefits, including easing stress, sharpening attention and timing, elevating mood, enhancing mindfulness, strengthening social connection, encouraging self expression, and providing a positive outlet for emotions. Information provided also highlights Ken Talaga, who began music studies at age nine on keyboards, later adding clarinet and seven years of drum kit training. A formative drum circle experience in 1987 sparked a lifelong passion for communal rhythm. He took up Native American style flute three decades ago and often weaves it into drum circles. His background includes participating in and facilitating gatherings at community events such as Ginger Blossoms, Pagan Pride events, Earth Day celebrations, and fire walks, and he currently facilitates three local monthly drum circles. He supports the therapeutic value of sound, crafts and sells Native American style flutes and other nature inspired instruments, has studied Taoism and Buddhism for nearly thirty five years, and is a Reik Fusion Usui Shiki Ryoho Master and teacher.

Working Equitation - Obstacle Practice May 11th

Take part in Working Equitation obstacle practice during a three-hour group session. The fee is $50, or $30 for Team KarMik Members. Coaching is provided by a judge, a TD, and several national champions in the sport. Capacity is limited, so registering in advance is advised to secure a spot. Team KarMik Members may reserve their place ahead of time.

Wine & Design – Container Garden Workshop

Enjoy a hands-on Wine & Design workshop that blends sipping and planting. Attendees may bring their own wine while designers offer friendly guidance to help create a personalized container garden. Bring gardening gloves and a pot to plant in, or choose a container on site. Staff can assist with selecting and arranging flowers, and cleanup is handled for you. Tickets are $20 and include soil for a patio planter along with creative instruction. Pots larger than 12 inches may incur an additional soil fee. Plants and containers are purchased separately during the workshop, and the reservation and soil fee is nonrefundable. This is a BYOB experience. Outside food is not permitted. State of Education Luncheon

Cheryl Brown’s ‘Riverview Remembered’

Historian Cheryl Brown presents a photo-filled talk on the amusement park that was once the largest in the world and stood in Chicago. The program shares many images and stories while exploring rides and attractions such as Aladdin’s Castle Fun House, the Bobs, Shoot the Chutes, Flying Turns, Pair-o-chutes, and a freak show. It also looks back at the park’s 1904 opening and explains why it came to an abrupt end in 1967.

McHenry's NEXT -- Anti-Normal Trivia Night

At Pink Roofing, McHenry’s Next teams up with Anti-Normal Trivia for an energetic trivia night filled with laughs and unexpected questions. The event features a lively, interactive format hosted by Anti-Normal Trivia, prizes for the top team or teams, and chances to connect with fellow young professionals. Weekend Crop: May 15/16/17

Crafters can bring photos, albums, stamps, cards, and any projects in progress to Cut It Out Scrapbooking for a weekend of crafting. Each person has an individual six foot table with a comfortable rolling chair and access to plenty of power for electronic machines, laptops, and chargers. Participants may use store tools that include a Cricut with cartridges, a Big Shot with die cuts and embossing folders, templates, punches, a cutting system, and more. The break room offers a refrigerator with an ice machine, a microwave, a coffee maker, a toaster, and a pop vending machine, along with extra tables for eating away from the cropping space. Many croppers also bring a snack to share, which is optional, and place it on the community countertop. Pricing options include $80 for Friday through Sunday, $70 for Saturday and Sunday, $60 for Friday and Saturday, $35 for Friday, $40 for Saturday, and $30 for Sunday. A $45 deposit is required to reserve a seat. Deposits can be submitted in person at the store, by mail, by phone with a credit card, or through online registration. Cancellations received more than 30 days before the event may transfer the $45 seat deposit to another event of equal value within the same calendar year if a replacement is found, and a $5 convenience and administration fee applies to changes to crop dates. Cancellations within 14 days of the event are nonrefundable.

The Wonders of Webb

Wonders of Webb invites audiences on a breathtaking journey through the universe as revealed by the James Webb Space Telescope. The show will include a live portion that highlights the current night sky and visual tours of solar system and universe features. Additionally, the feature film, Orbital, will be presented on the dome theatre for an immersive experience. Orbital is an epic journey from the Big Bang to the flourishing of life on Earth, to low Earth orbit. It transports you through an abstract landscape of light, inspired by bioluminescent earthly beings and atmospheric aurorae. Guided by the voices of astronauts and cosmonauts, you will feel your own “Overview Effect” as you meditate on our planet in Shared Reality. The show is appropriate for ages 8 to adult.

Calendar Girls

Theatre 121 and the Black Box Theatre present a performance of Calendar Girls. This production is based on the Miramax motion picture of the same name and is directed by Jay Geller. The play follows a group of women who inspire and empower others through their story. AAUW Paint & Sip Scholarship Fundraiser

This fundraiser at Crystal Lake Holiday Inn features cocktails with raffle basket and 50/50 ticket sales, a paint and sip session, and prize drawings to close the evening. Document Shredding Event

Safely clear out old paperwork at a free document shredding event for Village of Algonquin residents, presented in partnership with Groot Industries. Bring confidential documents to be destroyed on site for added security. Service continues only while the shredding trucks have capacity. Each vehicle is limited to eight standard banker boxes. Standard office paper and file folders are accepted. Please remove binders, binder clips, and other hard materials that could damage the shredding equipment. This is a simple way to reduce clutter while helping protect personal information.

Awards recognize first through sixth in each level and trial, plus overall Champion and Reserve at every level. The atmosphere is relaxed and supportive, with a focus on developing skills. Bettine is a Milwaukee based percussionist with more than 40 years of experience across many musical settings. He began working with gongs in 1975 and has spent decades exploring how sound interacts with mind and body. For the past 18 years he has focused primarily on gongs, singing bowls, bells, and related metal instruments under the name Gongtopia, presenting gong meditation sessions and solo percussion concerts. He has released over 40 recordings, and his long running blogs The Way of the Gong, Art As A Spiritual Practice, and Percussion Deconstruction have been embraced within meditation and sound therapy communities as well as among percussionists.

McHenry County Patriot Run 2026

Veteran Acres Park hosts a community run that supports those who have served. Participants can take on 5K and 10K trail courses, and there is also a 1 Mile Father’s Day Fun Run/Walk suited for all ages that works well as a warm up. Finishers of the 1 mile receive flags at the line. Proceeds benefit the Blue Star Banner Program and Veterans Path to Hope, supporting programs and services for veterans in the community. 7th Annual Veterans Path to Hope Motorcycle Run

The 7th Annual Veterans Path to Hope Motorcycle Run brings riders together to support veterans served by New Horizons, a transitional living facility in Hebron. Funds will help provide essential items and cover needed maintenance and renovation projects. New Horizons offers more than a place to stay. Residents take part in group counseling, receive connections to local employers, and work with case managers who tailor support so each veteran has the resources to move ahead. The ride sets off from McHenry VFW Post 4600, continues to The Bunker in Waterford for lunch, and concludes at Hoops in Hebron with music from Ivy Ford, raffle baskets, and more.

Pearl Street Market + Music in the Park - July 2nd

Pearl Street Market presents America 250 Night with an evening of community, music, and patriotic spirit at Veterans Memorial Park. Attendees are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue, browse the market, and enjoy food from Antioch Pizza Shop - McHenry, El Vado Mexican Restaurant, and Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard. Acoustic guitarist Neil Dixon Smith will perform under the picnic pavilion, presented by OMS Dental. Later, the McHenry City Band, supported by the City of McHenry, performs at the gazebo with a patriotic program for the community. Guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs, the family, and plenty of community pride for a festive night in the park.

Free for the 4th: July 4th Weekend at the Quarry

A weekend of no-charge live performances unfolds on the Social Deck at The Quarry, set against lakeside scenery and sunset views. The lineup features Jimmy Marquis and Marc Concialdi. All ages are welcome, and the bar and grille will be open. This event depends on weather, and refunds are available only if The Quarry cancels because of extreme or unsafe conditions.

The festivities include a flag-honoring opening ceremony and remarks from the VFW Commander, followed by live music throughout the day. Arts and Crafts in the Park - McHenry Fiesta Days

As part of McHenry Fiesta Days, Arts & Crafts in the Park gathers more than 100 handcrafted vendors and coincides with a variety of activities around downtown McHenry. This year the show is hosted exclusively at Veterans Memorial Park, creating a centralized, walkable setting for families and shoppers. It is a rain or shine event. For crafters and vendors, participation is juried with a limited number of spots in each category. Applications should be submitted by the stated deadline for priority consideration. Later submissions may be reviewed only if space remains, and most categories are expected to fill by that time. All accepted participants must offer original, handcrafted work. Attendees can support local artists, makers, and small businesses while enjoying the broader Fiesta Days festivities. The Art & Street Fair will take place in conjunction with Arts & Crafts in the Park, with additional details to be announced. Crystal Lake Cardboard Regatta Boater or Volunteer
