Returning for its second year, this free Take Back the Night walk brings the community together at the Southwestern Illinois College Belleville campus to show support for survivors of sexual assault and to build awareness. Attendees receive candles before a solidarity walk that begins in the Campus Quad, followed by a theatre program featuring guest speakers. Carolin Moldenhauer leads a PIB clinic at Deanna Preis Horsemanship at Shade Tree Stables that opens a two-part learning journey while also standing on its own. The focus is on clear orientation in training, learning to recognize what a horse needs in the moment, and choosing exercises with intention rather than habit. Using the PIB Compass in a practical way, the clinic explores how balance, connection, and readiness appear in movement, why certain exercises help and when they do not, and how to build trust in perception and decision making. Accessible exercises and real scenarios are used to clarify both what to do and how to choose the next step. Participants receive direct coaching with their own horse, putting theory into practice and addressing specific challenges. Lessons follow logical progressions that support the horse mentally, physically, and emotionally, helping riders feel confident continuing at home. Spectators can observe the coaching process and the progress of each horse and rider team. The expected flow includes a welcome, individual lessons, and a midday theory talk on the first day. The second day features a discussion and Q&A, longer individual lessons, another midday Q&A, and a closing wrap up.

Belleville Books hosts author Cheryl Eichar Jett for a talk and signing celebrating her new release, Aprons Away: Women’s Work on Route 66. The program explores the many roles women filled along the 2,448 miles of the famed highway, including pumping gas, holding public office, creating murals, serving in the military, reporting the news, and designing buildings, theme parks, rockets, and toys. Marking the Route 66 centennial, Jett shares insights from years of research at the crossroads of women’s history and the Mother Road. An American author, playwright, and journalist, she has seven prior books, including Route 66 in Illinois, along with hundreds of articles. Her writing has appeared with Arcadia Publishing, Quarto, and ROUTE Magazine, and she holds a graduate degree in history from SIUE. She has spent a decade investigating these stories and has directed two productions of a stage play based on that work. She is also one of twelve speakers selected for the National Route 66 Centennial Speakers Series. This annual 5K and kids fun run offers two ways to take part, with both in-person and virtual options. The in-person course is in Shiloh, starting at Greenmount Crossings by Toolen's Running Start. The 5K comes first, followed immediately by the kids fun run. Those choosing the virtual format can complete the distance from any location and submit results through the race site. Registration is available for either format. The 5K run or walk is $25, with an adult price increase to $30 later. The fun run is a half mile for children 10 and under and costs $25. Packet and shirt pickup will be available at Toolen's Running Start in Shiloh, and a mail-to-you option can be selected during registration for an additional fee. All proceeds benefit pediatric brain cancer research and provide support for families through a dedicated program.
