Full Flower Moon Paddle

Witness the scenic sunset and full moon rising over the lake. This event requires a kayak and canoe reservation, but the boats are free, though limited. Teachers and nurses are especially welcome to join a Sunset and Full Moon Paddle on Banks Lake. Perhaps bats will even make an appearance. Gather at 7:15 PM, launch at 7:45 PM, with moonrise at 8:30 PM, sunset at 8:11 PM, and the event ending at 9:15 PM. Bring your own canoe or kayak, or utilize the free boat rentals. Remember to bring a personal flotation device, paddles, a whistle, water, warm clothes, and a first aid kit. Cleanup is part of the event, so bring trash pickers and bags, and follow Leave No Trace principles. Safety requires being on time and wearing a PFD. A light is also needed for your boat or yourself, and avoid shining bright lights in peoples eyes. The outing is free for WWALS members, and $10 for non-members.

Explore cake decorating with MM Treats in a hands-on class where participants personalize a mini cake to take home. Instruction covers cake decorating fundamentals, buttercream piping and design techniques, plus color mixing and thoughtful design placement, delivered through live, step by step demonstrations. Each participant receives a complete kit with prebaked vanilla cake layers, a cake board, piping bags and tips, spatulas, and decorations like sprinkles, frosting, and edible pieces, along with packaging for easy transport. Drinks are provided, and everyone leaves with a fully decorated cake. A Mommy and Me option allows you to add a child’s cake so both can decorate side by side, and the child add on must be paired with an adult cake purchase with the adult present at all times; the child option is for ages 5 to 12, and ages 13 and up are considered an adult add on. Hosted by the Valdosta-Lowndes Metropolitan Section of the National Council of Negro Women, this eleventh annual mother-daughter brunch welcomes mothers, daughters, and mentors for a morning centered on sisterhood, grace, love, and gratitude at Rainwater Conference Center. The program features keynote speaker Rev. Sylvia Christine Hooker, a leader whose work spans education, music, and ministry. As a former Deputy Superintendent of School Turnaround, she led a $126 million initiative to improve schools across Georgia. She is also a lifelong Minister of Music and an ordained Elder in the AME Zion Church, and she will encourage attendees to lead with purpose and a readiness to work. In keeping with tradition, guests are encouraged to wear hats, pearls, and gloves, though this attire is optional. Early purchase rates are $20 for children ages 5 to 12, $35 for ages 13 and up, and $325 for a VIP table for eight. Experience the scenic sunset and full moon from the water. This event offers a kayak and canoe experience. There are a limited number of free boats available, so reservations are required. 18th Annual Barnes Drug Store 5K Fun Run & Splash Dash

Now in its 18th year, the Barnes Drug Store 5K Fun Run & Splash Dash pairs a lively race experience with a strong community mission. Every contribution is matched dollar for dollar up to $100,000, and all proceeds support Sandy's House, a Valdosta program offering a 12-month residential, faith-based path for women 18 and older who are overcoming addiction. The program provides housing, education, and spiritual training to help participants rebuild their lives in Christ. Through this annual event, Barnes Drug Store has directed more than $1 million to local causes, including over $600,000 for Evans Memorial Camp. The goal is to raise $100,000 for Sandy's House through this edition of the run. Registration is $30 in advance and includes a T-shirt, while later and day-of sign-ups do not include a shirt.
