Multimedia Paint & Play

Explore the art of play in a hands-on class where students create a unique 3D painting using sculpture paste and acrylics. Learn techniques that support a smoother creative process, with demonstrations on using sculpture paste, basic color theory to understand how colors interact with texture and paint, and therapeutic approaches that can be applied during artmaking and in everyday life. This month's project focuses on a piece dedicated to autism awareness. All materials are provided by the instructor. Open to ages 16 and older. The class fee is $35. A drawing will be held at the end for a chance to win a one-of-a-kind handmade earring set or keychain, and the winner must be present to receive the prize. Baby Bees

Designed for little ones from birth to age three and their parents or caregivers, Baby Bees offers a 20-minute early learning session focused on the rapid brain growth that happens in the first years of life, with about 80 percent occurring before age three. The program blends book sharing, singalongs, and rhymes with playful elements like scarves, puppets, and easy-to-hold instruments to spark curiosity and connection. After the guided portion, an optional playtime is available.

Books & Bubbles

Designed for little ones from birth to age five, this session features stories, music, and time to play. Children can listen to stories, enjoy music, and spend time playing.

Teen Advisory Group

Teen Dungeons and Dragons

Teens ages 12 to 17 can take part in a welcoming Dungeons and Dragons program at Moultrie-Colquitt County Library. New players and experienced adventurers are both encouraged, and all materials are provided. Participants can spend time on character creation before the game, then come together for a collaborative D&D session.

An Evening with Award-winning Poet, Editor, and Translator, Blas Falconer

Blas Falconer will read from his newest collection, Rara Avis. Poet Oliver de la Paz offers warm praise for the book, noting its tenderness and wisdom as it reflects on how love moves us forward while the past continues to care for us. Falconer is the author of Rara Avis, published by Four Way Books in 2024 and recipient of the Thom Gunn Award, as well as Forgive the Body This Failure from 2018, The Foundling Wheel from 2012, A Question of Gravity and Light from 2007, and The Perfect Hour from 2006. His editorial work includes The Other Latin@: Writing Against a Singular Identity from 2011 and Mentor & Muse: Essays from Poets to Poets from 2010. His honors include a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, the Maureen Egen Writers Exchange Award from Poets & Writers, a Tennessee Individual Artist Grant, the New Delta Review Eyster Prize for Poetry, and the Barthelme Fellowship. He teaches in the MFA program at San Diego State University and serves as editor in chief of Poetry International Online.

Southeastern Specialty Crop Tech Conference & Show

More than a meal, it celebrates local pride, memorable flavors, and meaningful connections.

19th Annual Jay Deason Memorial Golf Tournament

The 19th Annual Jay Deason Memorial Golf Tournament at Spring Hill Country Club honors Jay and raises funds for local youth in his memory. Since 2007, the Jay Deason Fund has generated more than $250,000 locally, including over $50,000 for Tools for School to support homeless and at-risk students, along with REACH Scholarships, youth sports scholarships, foster care and military family support, and community youth programs across Tift County. Team registration and hole sponsorships are available, with hole sponsorships priced at $200. For the first time, sponsorships and donations can be completed online with no checks required. The day features check-in and warmup, a free lunch, a shotgun start, and awards. Playing, sponsoring, or donating supports programs that improve the lives of children in the community.

Scavenger Hunt & Story Walk

Enjoy a Story Walk and scavenger hunt in downtown Sylvester. A kid-friendly take on the Sip and Stroll offers cupcakes and special children's drinks, and there is an opportunity to sign up to be a summer reader. Activities take place at the corner of Kelly Street and Main Street beside Barnyard Creations, and a free concert with The Grapevine Band is planned at the depot.

Night On the Town Gala

Tiftarea House of Hope hosts its annual Night On the Town Gala at First Baptist Tifton. The event focuses on rallying community support for the local women’s homeless shelter.

Chocolate and a Canvas May Art Class

Create a one-of-a-kind painting while enjoying chocolate refreshments. This collaborative class adds a playful twist, as participants paint a small section of every canvas in the room, even the instructor’s. Everyone begins on their own piece, then rotates to the next after a set interval, continuing until each canvas reflects contributions from all. When your original returns to you, add the finishing touches to make it your own. Open to adults and teens, with no prior painting experience needed. Held at The Syd Blackmarr Arts Center. Flag Retirement Ceremony

A respectful ceremony will retire worn United States flags and honor the values they symbolize. Hosted at VFW Post 5978, the program includes participation from Cub Scout Pack 686, Scouts of America Troop 686, community members, and a special detail from Moody Air Force Base. Attendees may bring worn or damaged American flags to be retired according to proper protocol.

Mother Lover 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run

An upbeat Mother’s Day–themed 5K and 1 mile fun run and cake walk unfolds on an off-road course through the scenic countryside of Rutland Farms in South Georgia, created for enjoyment more than speed and welcoming participants of all ages to celebrate the special people in their lives. The 5K offers runners 21 and older tasting stations featuring local wines paired with sweet bites from the farm bakery, while the 1 mile route treats participants to cake tasting stops showcasing favorite homemade recipes. Awards are given to the top two finishers in each race. The trail surface is stroller friendly, with jogging strollers recommended due to the terrain. Registration is available through Active.com. Fees for the 5K include a 40 dollar option for ages 21 and up with a short-sleeve shirt and on-course wine tasting, a 35 dollar option with a short-sleeve shirt only, and a group rate for three or more at 35 dollars that includes a short-sleeve shirt and wine tasting. Fees for the 1 mile are 30 dollars for adults with a short-sleeve shirt and cake tasting and 25 dollars for children 12 and under with a short-sleeve shirt and cake tasting.

Second Saturday

The Kaleidoscope Children’s Museum opens to families on the Second Saturday of each month and on select holidays, supported by funding and volunteers from the Moultrie Service League. Children may not be left unattended, and parents are expected to remain on site and supervise throughout the visit. Stamp Out Hunger

Community members are coming together to support a nationwide Stamp Out Hunger effort that benefits neighbors facing food insecurity. United Way of Colquitt County, the National Association of Letter Carriers, and the Colquitt County Food Bank are collaborating and seeking volunteers to help collect donations, sort canned goods, and handle boxes so food reaches local families. Volunteer shifts are available, and any amount of time given contributes to meaningful support for Colquitt County.

NAMI Ending the Silence offers a thoughtful presentation that explores how to recognize signs of mental health conditions and what steps to take if you or a loved one is experiencing symptoms. The program features two presenters, including one who shares key information and a young adult with a mental health condition who tells their recovery story. Young artists ages 5 to 11 can explore creativity in a guided art class led by professional artist Leslie Larson at Main Street Arts Studio, previously known as the Short and Paulk Building. The session focuses on building practical art skills and confidence, with projects that typically feature painting. Step by step instruction makes it welcoming for beginners, and all project supplies are included in the fee. Participants practice using tools such as paintbrushes to blend and manipulate paint and learn to make thoughtful composition choices as they create a piece from start to finish. Each child leaves with an original 8x10 artwork they made and newly gained skills. A refreshment is provided during class. This hands-on journaling workshop offers a creative way to engage with the Glass Cabin Exhibition. Participants will repurpose overlooked papers and found materials to craft a one-of-a-kind junk journal, turning everyday scraps into a personal keepsake. Guided by the Glass Cabin authors, you will bring your pages to life with a poetry prompt inspired by their work, shaping something entirely your own from small fragments. Discover the art of working with molten glass while creating a personalized rose paperweight from glass heated to 2,000 degrees. Instructor Ezra Yant provides clear, step by step guidance as you select your own colors and shape hot glass into a keepsake. Along the way, you will practice essential tools, processes, and techniques for hot glass and build the skills used to form a unique vase, working side by side with the instructor. Each session lasts one hour and is limited to six participants, so beginners receive plenty of individual attention. Finished pieces are typically ready for pickup as soon as the next weekday.
