Explore the art of play in a hands-on class where students create a unique 3D painting using sculpture paste and acrylics. This month's project focuses on a piece dedicated to autism awareness. All materials are provided by the instructor. Open to ages 16 and older. The class fee is $35. An Evening with Award-winning Poet, Editor, and Translator, Blas Falconer

Blas Falconer will read from his newest collection, Rara Avis. Poet Oliver de la Paz offers warm praise for the book, noting its tenderness and wisdom as it reflects on how love moves us forward while the past continues to care for us. Falconer is the author of Rara Avis, published by Four Way Books in 2024 and recipient of the Thom Gunn Award, as well as Forgive the Body This Failure from 2018, The Foundling Wheel from 2012, A Question of Gravity and Light from 2007, and The Perfect Hour from 2006. His editorial work includes The Other Latin@: Writing Against a Singular Identity from 2011 and Mentor & Muse: Essays from Poets to Poets from 2010. His honors include a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, the Maureen Egen Writers Exchange Award from Poets & Writers, a Tennessee Individual Artist Grant, the New Delta Review Eyster Prize for Poetry, and the Barthelme Fellowship. He teaches in the MFA program at San Diego State University and serves as editor in chief of Poetry International Online.

19th Annual Jay Deason Memorial Golf Tournament

The 19th Annual Jay Deason Memorial Golf Tournament at Spring Hill Country Club honors Jay and raises funds for local youth in his memory. Since 2007, the Jay Deason Fund has generated more than $250,000 locally, including over $50,000 for Tools for School to support homeless and at-risk students, along with REACH Scholarships, youth sports scholarships, foster care and military family support, and community youth programs across Tift County. Team registration and hole sponsorships are available, with hole sponsorships priced at $200. For the first time, sponsorships and donations can be completed online with no checks required. The day features check-in and warmup, a free lunch, a shotgun start, and awards. Playing, sponsoring, or donating supports programs that improve the lives of children in the community.

Mother Lover 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run

An upbeat Mother’s Day–themed 5K and 1 mile fun run and cake walk unfolds on an off-road course through the scenic countryside of Rutland Farms in South Georgia, created for enjoyment more than speed and welcoming participants of all ages to celebrate the special people in their lives. The 5K offers runners 21 and older tasting stations featuring local wines paired with sweet bites from the farm bakery, while the 1 mile route treats participants to cake tasting stops showcasing favorite homemade recipes. Awards are given to the top two finishers in each race. The trail surface is stroller friendly, with jogging strollers recommended due to the terrain. Registration is available through Active.com. Fees for the 5K include a 40 dollar option for ages 21 and up with a short-sleeve shirt and on-course wine tasting, a 35 dollar option with a short-sleeve shirt only, and a group rate for three or more at 35 dollars that includes a short-sleeve shirt and wine tasting. Fees for the 1 mile are 30 dollars for adults with a short-sleeve shirt and cake tasting and 25 dollars for children 12 and under with a short-sleeve shirt and cake tasting.

Scraps to Story Journal Workshop

This hands-on journaling workshop offers a creative way to engage with the Glass Cabin Exhibition. Participants will repurpose overlooked papers and found materials to craft a one-of-a-kind junk journal, turning everyday scraps into a personal keepsake. Guided by the Glass Cabin authors, you will bring your pages to life with a poetry prompt inspired by their work, shaping something entirely your own from small fragments. You are welcome to bring scrap paper such as old envelopes, construction paper, or newspapers, though it is not required. All other supplies are provided. The workshop is intended for ages 16 and older, is held at The Syd Blackmarr Arts Center, and has a $25 fee. Online registration is required.

Glassblowing

Discover the art of working with molten glass while creating a personalized rose paperweight from glass heated to 2,000 degrees. Instructor Ezra Yant provides clear, step by step guidance as you select your own colors and shape hot glass into a keepsake. Along the way, you will practice essential tools, processes, and techniques for hot glass and build the skills used to form a unique vase, working side by side with the instructor. Each session lasts one hour and is limited to six participants, so beginners receive plenty of individual attention. Finished pieces are typically ready for pickup as soon as the next weekday. For ages 16 and up. The class fee is $45. Advance registration is required.
