Week 5 of The Secret Spot Summer Art Camp celebrates Mary Cassatt, inviting campers to draw inspiration from her impressionist style, soft color palette, and intimate everyday scenes. At Costa d’Este, this long-running local tradition features a swim or paddle out to the historic Breconshire shipwreck just offshore, where clear water often reveals the ocean floor. What began with about 20 swimmers has grown to welcome more than a thousand ocean lovers each year. Participants can swim, paddle, kayak, or float, and spectators can enjoy the view from the beach. Snorkels, kayaks, and paddleboards are permitted, and no RSVP is required. Swim to the Wreck

Celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday with the original community Swim to the Wreck, a festive ocean gathering featuring a quarter mile swim from shore to the S.S. Breconshire, also known as the Boiler Wreck, and a champagne toast around the flag placed on the site. Launched by the Sunrunners about two decades ago with fewer than twenty swimmers, it now welcomes roughly a thousand participants along with friends and family. The experience is open to everyone. Those who prefer not to swim can take part on floats, kayaks, or paddleboards, which also help carry champagne and offer a place to rest. The route is approximately a quarter mile and the bottom is often visible the whole way. Masks and snorkels are welcome. For preservation, participants are asked not to stand on the wreck, a historic ship that has rested underwater for about 130 years. Attendees gather on the beach behind Ocean Grill or Coste d’Este, with ample parking at Sexton Plaza. It is a BYOB occasion and there is usually plenty to share. Children are welcome and may bring a legal beverage of their choice. No RSVP is required. Participants are encouraged to share the event with others who might be interested.
