Rueda de Casino: Cuban Salsa Classes

Experience Cuban salsa in a social, welcoming setting at WestShore Plaza with Rueda de Casino classes for multiple skill levels. Instruction is led by Robert Morales with assistant Laura Cristina, dancers with more than 20 years in Casino and Rueda and over a decade of teaching, who continue to refine their craft through study in Cuba and abroad. The program follows a five-week series format. Beginners work through foundational figures and lead and follow skills in a progressive course, and because each week builds on the last, new participants are not accepted after the second session. The intermediate series deepens technique, increases speed, and covers the hand signals used in standard rueda patterns. Entry requires successful completion of the beginner course or a skills check showing confident execution of figures such as Vacila, Exhibela or Sacala, Sombrero, Adiós or Prima con la Hermana, Setenta, and Balsero. The advanced class moves at a brisk pace with more complex Cuban salsa patterns and continued focus on transferable partner-dancing skills for rueda and Casino; participation requires completion of the intermediate course or a skills assessment demonstrating command of moves like Coca Cola, Setenta Complicado, Dedo, Montaña, Juana la Cubana, and Sombrero Doble. Class pricing is $60 for a five-class punch card or $20 for a single walk-in. Free parking is available in the mall lot. To streamline check-in, participants can purchase passes in advance through the Dance Factory app. For questions, email DameSalsaCubana@gmail.com.

Simon Lasky New York Quintet

Part of New Tampa Jazz Nights, presented by Tampa Jazz Club and the New Tampa Performing Arts Center, this concert introduces the Simon Lasky New York Quintet with a program of contemporary jazz. Pianist and composer Simon Lasky arrived from London in 2018 on a fellowship to study with USF composer Chuck Owen and has since become a fixture on Florida stages, developing a distinct voice through his original works. His third album, "For The Dreamers," released in 2024, drew praise in both the United States and the United Kingdom. After connecting earlier this year with like-minded artists active in the New York scene, Lasky formed a new ensemble featuring trumpeter Dave Smith, saxophonist Lucas Pino, bassist Peter Slavov, and drummer Jimmy Macbride. The performance features new originals, selections from the recent album, and fresh arrangements of jazz standards. Longtime collaborator and Bay Area favorite Allison Nash appears as guest vocalist. Since the center opened in 2023, the series has welcomed large and appreciative audiences, and this event continues that momentum with an evening of dynamic, modern jazz.

July Summer Camp

An exclusive summer development camp from Six Tool Mindset centers on building confident, disciplined, game ready baseball athletes. It is designed for families who want true growth for their players rather than simple childcare, with a curriculum focused on real player development. Training spans hitting and defensive work, baseball IQ and situational awareness, strength and overall athletic development, leadership with confidence and discipline, and mental performance. Sessions are led by former professional player Leo Santana, a mental performance coach with World Series champion experience and a graduate student in sports psychology, alongside Dr. Pointers, a professional infield coach who specializes in elite defensive development. Athletes learn to handle pressure, strengthen confidence, compete with purpose, build consistent routines and focus, and approach preparation like serious competitors instead of merely showing up. The guiding belief is that talent alone is not enough, and that those who excel train both body and mind. Space is limited to maintain quality instruction and individualized attention, and registration will close once capacity is reached. Built for long term development, this environment offers a focused path to meaningful improvement and an advantage many players never develop.

Art Conversation - Remixed: Florida Artists Look at Art History

Explore how Florida artists converse with the past at Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Public Library. The Tampa Museum of Art’s Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Joanna Robotham, leads a talk focused on Pepe Mar, Mernet Larsen, Purvis Young, and Theo Wujcik, showing how their work draws from Old Master painters, the Russian Avant-Garde, the Impressionists, and influential figures of the twentieth century to connect past and present. Their art is part of the Tampa Museum of Art’s permanent collection, and the artists are featured in the poster exhibition Made in Florida on view across the Hillsborough County Library system. An associated image highlights Theo Wujcik’s Nuenen from 1986, an acrylic and paper collage on canvas from the museum’s collection.
