Take a scenic spin with Tampa Black Hikers on Flatwoods Park’s popular paved loop, enjoying nature, community, and a mostly flat route. Riders can complete a single 7-mile lap or add a second for 14 miles. The trail is wide and welcoming to all experience levels, with stretches of shade along the way. Parking is available at the South Entrance lot for a $2 fee per vehicle, and restrooms are located near the trailhead. Two cold-water stations are positioned on the route. Bring a bicycle in good working order, a helmet, water or electrolytes, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a small snack. Expect some sun, keep a comfortable pace, share the path courteously, and stay hydrated as temperatures rise. Admission is free with one Eventbrite ticket per family, which also covers the photo opportunity. Only one RSVP is needed per family group, and space is limited. You can add the featured book to your ticket as an optional purchase, and copies will also be available in store while supplies last. Two storytime sessions are planned. The celebration spotlights a new Dr. Seuss picture book created from a discovered original manuscript, pairing previously unpublished text in his signature rhyming style with fresh illustrations inspired by his sketches as the Cat in the Hat tours all 50 states. A publisher’s note at the end shares how the project took shape, including archival images of the original text and drawings by Ted Geisel. Remove the jacket to reveal a full United States map on the reverse, useful for practicing state names.

Their art is part of the Tampa Museum of Art’s permanent collection, and the artists are featured in the poster exhibition Made in Florida on view across the Hillsborough County Library system.
