Penn & Teller

Penn & Teller bring a night of mind-bending illusions and quick-witted comedy from the legendary duo whose partnership began as Philadelphia street performers five decades ago and grew to acclaimed runs on New York stages. Their Off-Broadway breakthrough led to multiple Broadway engagements, recognition with an Obie and a Lucille Lortel Award, and a later return that became the top-grossing nonmusical of its run, even surpassing Hamilton for a week. Beyond Broadway, they present close to 300 live shows each year at major venues around the world, and their long-running residency at the Rio in Las Vegas has earned nine Las Vegas Magicians of the Year honors. On television, their CW series Penn & Teller: Fool Us invites rising and veteran magicians to try to outsmart them for a chance to appear in their Vegas show. The series received a Critics Choice nomination, has been renewed for an eleventh season, and is the longest continually running American magic program on TV. They have appeared across late-night, sitcoms, and animated favorites, created specials for NBC, ABC, PBS, and Comedy Central, and earned an Emmy, a Writers Guild Award, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Their Showtime series Penn & Teller: BS! drew 13 Emmy nominations and became the network’s longest-running series, using their trademark skepticism to probe subjects like alien abductions, psychics, and bottled water. Tickets will be available to the public, and members of Bill Edwards Foundation for the Arts receive presale access. For details about membership perks, call (727) 300-2000.

St Pete Kung Fu Society: Open Martial Arts & Sparring Group (Donation Based Class)

This donation based class at North Shore Park transforms traditional Kung Fu forms into clear, practical skills. Training features partner drills, pad work, and full body conditioning, and every session closes with light, friendly sparring. With a serious approach to practice and a playful spirit, the St. Pete Kung Fu Society emphasizes honest self expression over ranks or titles and a deeper connection to movement and nature. Grounded in ancestral wisdom and flexible in method, participants aim to stay rooted while adapting with ease. The practice blends internal arts with modern insight, building qi and testing principles in the realities of sparring and everyday life. Ideas that do not hold up are released, and the weight of ego is left at the door so movement can be lighter and freer, like water finding its way through small openings. Together the group explores how to be soft yet strong, when to crash through and when to flow around challenges in life, love, and community. The intention is personal growth, closer ties to the natural world, greater understanding within families, and a steadier peace within.

Free, SCRIPT LAB - Screenplay Writers Table Reading St Pete Treasure Island

Screenwriters from beginner to professional gather at Pinellas Beaches Chamber in Treasure Island, St Pete for a free Script Lab centered on table reads and constructive feedback. The group meets monthly and focuses on actually writing pages, hearing them aloud, and building continuity toward finishing scripts rather than offering formal lessons. Participants share excerpts from original work for short films, features, or television, assign parts for others to read, and receive timed feedback. Writers typically begin with a logline or brief setup, may bring outlines or treatments instead of pages, and provide enough copies for each speaking role. Feedback is kept to a few minutes per person and comments are often written so the writer can review them later, with extended discussions continuing after the meeting. Actors are welcome to read and offer insights, while the emphasis remains on supporting writers and their craft. Occasional staged table readings with a full cast may be planned for special occasions. RSVP is requested.

LIVING IN COLOR: Tampa Bay Surface Design Guild Opening Reception

As the season shifts from spring to summer, Werk Gallery presents a collaborative exhibition with the Tampa Bay Surface Design Guild, showcasing the breadth of techniques and materials explored by its community of textile and fiber artists. Surface design refers to the many ways artists color, pattern, shape, and transform fabric, fiber, and other materials. Guild members share knowledge across practices such as dyeing, painting, printing, stitching, embellishing, quilting, weaving, knitting, felting, beading, basket making, working with polymer clay, crochet, and papermaking. The organization offers educational and exploratory opportunities that encourage individual expression and a culture of shared learning. Founded in the early 1990s by four women who set out to learn together, the Guild has grown to well over one hundred members. Many have earned national and international recognition, and the group remains committed to its original values of mutual support and community engagement. Jazz on the Block

During Mental Health Awareness Month, this free, five-hour celebration at Suite E Studios in St. Petersburg brings the community together around live jazz and spoken word while spotlighting the role of music in emotional well-being. Presented by WUSF in collaboration with Suite E Studios and supported by the Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg, it coincides with the Second Saturday Art Walk in the Warehouse Arts District and aims to infuse the local scene with fresh energy. Attendees can expect four jazz ensembles featuring talented young musicians, spoken word performances, a mental health presentation by Freeman Sound, interactive Q&A sessions with each band, meet and greets with WUSF hosts, and food and drinks. The lineup includes Steamin’ Jazz, led by bassist and founder Holly Cordero, blending standards with Brazilian grooves, funk, and jazz takes on pop in various configurations. Mutant Fusion Collective, steered by guitarist and bandleader Kirk Yates out of Dunedin, merges originals with classic jazz standards and 90s alt-rock, balancing improvisational freedom with punchy rhythms. Tampa’s Tha Banned, which began as a jam band in an auto shop, delivers genre-spanning sets with a focus on improvisational jazz and has performed around the region, including Rock the Park at Curtis Hixon and the St. Pete Saturday Morning Market. The Jose Pineiro Trio, shaped by Gainesville’s music scene, pursues a deeply expressive jazz voice that explores the breadth of human feeling and connection. Spoken word artists include Keshia Banks, author of Book of Rhymes :: Soulor System, Idle Friend, a Florida hip-hop artist known for intense, introspective lyricism with releases dating back to 2010 and a history of touring and supporting fellow artists, and D-Rod the Poet, host of Poetry Is... on WMNF and recognized for rhythmic, lyrical delivery. The gathering underscores how music supports mental health by easing stress, slowing the body’s pace, and lifting mood through the release of feel-good chemicals. It also fosters expression, mindfulness, and social connection, offering an accessible way to build resilience. Partners include Freemansound.org and the MINDSET Series, and Suite E Studios, a creative community arts space in the Warehouse Arts District that hosts concerts, comedy, DJ events, and more.

FOGHAT and NAZARETH

Foghat and Nazareth share the stage at Ferg's Sports Bar & Grill for a co-headlining classic rock showcase from two enduring acts. Founded in 1971, Foghat made its name with a blues-driven boogie sound. Fool for the City reached double platinum on the strength of the anthem Slow Ride, and years of heavy touring brought nine gold records in the United States plus two double platinum albums. The band’s self-titled debut, along with Energized and Night Shift, also earned gold status. Hailing from Dunfermline, Scotland, Nazareth broke through in the 1970s with gritty hard rock and memorable hooks. Hair of the Dog went multi-platinum, propelled by Love Hurts, which climbed into the U.S. Top 10 and charted around the world. Across their career they have amassed more than 20 gold and platinum awards on multiple continents, with Razamanaz and Close Enough for Rock n Roll among their gold-certified releases. This stop brings full sets from both groups, with the chance of onstage collaborations and deep cuts from their catalogs. Signature songs may show up, including Foghat favorites like Slow Ride, Fool for the City, and I Just Want to Make Love to You, alongside Nazareth staples such as Hair of the Dog, Love Hurts, and This Flight Tonight. Together these bands have sold over 40 million albums, their music appears in film and television, and their influence spans generations.

Picturing Paradise: From John James Audubon to the Florida Highwaymen

Florida’s scenery has sparked the imagination of artists for centuries, from naturalists Titian Ramsay Peale and John James Audubon who sought native plants and animals to later figures such as Harriet Beecher Stowe, Martin Johnson Heade, George Inness, Winslow Homer, and Henry Ossawa Tanner, all drawn by the state’s beauty and warm climate. This presentation offers a concise and engaging history of Florida landscape painting. Keri Watson is an associate professor of art history at the University of Central Florida and co-executive editor for Panorama: Journal of the Association of Historians of American Art. She is the author of This is America: Re-Viewing the Art of the United States (2023) and editor of the Routledge Companion to Art and Disability (2022). Entry includes golf with a cart, a morning spread of donuts, bagels, coffee, and fruit, plus a hot dog and a beverage, either beer or soda. Every golfer receives a swag bag. Contests such as longest drive and closest to the pin add extra challenges, top-performing teams earn prizes, and sponsor activations and giveaways keep the energy high throughout the course. Beyond the competition, the event benefits local veterans, encourages networking with area businesses and community members, and keeps the experience accessible and laid-back, without country club pressure. Sponsorship and vendor opportunities are available, including hole sponsorships and on-course activations for brands looking to connect with a large group of local golfers and an engaged audience.
