Arts for All Studio2026 Butterfly Appreciation Day
Butterfly lovers and curious gardeners are invited to a community program hosted by the Merritt Island Wildlife Association and Brevard Discovery Garden, offering fresh insights into butterflies, pollinators, and how to create habitats that support them. Building on last year’s packed event, this year features a new slate of talks and hands-on learning. Rochelle Hood, Executive Director of the Merritt Island Wildlife Association, opens with a welcome that highlights UF/IFAS butterfly identification resources and guides, along with a demonstration of close-focus binoculars designed for butterfly viewing. Ed Perry, a retired Florida Park Service Ranger, shares details about butterfly life cycles, food needs, and species commonly found in the area. Sally Scalera, UF/IFAS Extension Urban Horticulture Agent for Brevard County, presents Pollinator Gardening in Small Spaces, with practical ideas for attracting pollinators to small yards, patios, and container gardens. The program concludes with a guided walk through the Brevard Discovery Garden to identify and count butterflies throughout the grounds. Admission is free, and registration is requested to assist with planning. A suggested $5 donation to the Brevard Discovery Garden supports ongoing educational programs and maintenance. Classes and events may be canceled due to low registration or other circumstances, and similar offerings are often scheduled on future dates. Fire spinning adds a lively spark, and tarot readings are available for a fee. A simple craft is included, with time to decorate a small stick about the size of a pencil for use in the ceremony, and bringing one already decorated is also fine. Arriving on time helps ensure there is space to receive a clearing and prepare the ceremony stick. Comfortable outdoor seating such as a chair, blanket, or pillow is useful, as are a rattle or drum if you have one, a personal drink, and any items that make being outside more comfortable. The City of Melbourne presents a festive Independence Day fireworks celebration at Front Street Park, a tradition that draws thousands of residents and visitors each year and marks America’s 250th birthday. The day features food trucks at the park, shuttle service from the Melbourne Auditorium, and an entertainment lineup that begins with the official MelBOOM emcee, Christopher Long. The Phoenix Band performs leading up to the fireworks, the National Anthem will be sung by the winner of the Star Spangled Singer Showcase, and the fireworks are planned to launch weather permitting. Food options include Better Call Dogs, Tasty Freeze 2.0, Kona Ice, The Hangry Spartan, Gran Arepa, Strong Island Ice Cream, Mac & Fries, Hunnyz Wingz & Thingz, Rice Rice Baby, Paris Creperie, and Paisley Kitchen in collaboration with Pita Pyramid. Parade participation is coordinated through Indian River Church, with limited availability of 50 slots, pre-registration required, and a $250 fee per float due prior to confirmation. Each entry must include a decorated float or an appropriately decorated parade vehicle. Personal cars or trucks are not permitted unless towing a float, vintage and antique car clubs should apply as a single group entry, and all participants will receive a designated lineup position from organizers. Safety requirements state that drivers must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid driver’s license, and operate properly insured vehicles. Judging will include categories such as Best Patriotic Theme, Best Historical Tribute, Most Creative Float, Best Youth Entry, and the Mayor’s Choice Award, with scoring based on patriotic representation, creativity and originality, visual impact, and overall presentation. Judging decisions are final. Week 8 Summer Fun Camp at Tony Rosa Community Center
Children ages 6 to 12 can spend a week of active learning and play at the Tony Rosa Community Center’s Summer Fun Camp. Days are filled with games, sports, arts and crafts, field trips, guest presentations, outdoor time, reading, and hands-on STEM activities. Campers also receive free breakfast and lunch, with serving schedules provided by the camp. The program runs Monday through Friday during the summer, and drop-off and pick-up are flexible within the daily schedule. The cost is $110 per week. First Friday Litter Sweep
This grounds cleanup at the Ted Moorhead Lagoon House, the headquarters of MRC between US-1 and the Indian River Lagoon, focuses on removing trash along the property line beside US-1, on the walking trails, and around the stormwater pond. When needed and with advance notice, the work may extend to the shoreline or a focused stormwater pond effort. Volunteers should prepare for Florida heat and humidity. Close-toed shoes, a hat, and sun protection are required, and bringing water is essential. Gloves, trash bags, and trash pickers are provided. A restroom, water fountain, and an air-conditioned building are available on site for breaks. The Lagoon House also serves as a City of Palm Bay public park and a welcome center on the Indian River Lagoon National Scenic Byways. This cleanup takes place on the first Friday each month to help keep nearby highways and the trail system free of litter.

The event welcomes longtime boxing followers as well as families seeking a spirited community experience. Tickets are limited. General admission is $25, and a limited number of Ringside or VIP seats are $45. Children ages 5 and under attend free. First responders are eligible for a $5 discount while those discounted tickets remain available. This event marks the Space Coast's first double dance with a format designed to give dancers plenty of time on the floor. Two full sessions are separated by a two-hour dinner break, followed by an after-party hosted by the Rountrees. The venue is near Cocoa Village, which offers many restaurants, and there is a refrigerator on site. A nearby riverside park makes it easy to bring your own meal. Both dances take place at the new location, Rockledge Municipal Building, which features a view of the Indian River and a wood floor. The Four O'Clocks from Atlanta provide the music, an up-and-coming traditional old-time string band with Max Godfrey, Maggie Hall, Jenna Mobley, and Jeremy Aggers. Calling is by JJ Luxe of Orlando, who frequently travels and recently called at the Bug Stomp in South Carolina. A short lesson for newcomers starts each dance. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for youth and young adults ages 25 and under for a single dance, or $25 for adults and $10 for youth and young adults for both dances. Bring a water bottle and a snack to share. Water is provided. No experience or partner is required. Everyone is welcome.
