HERO OF 1000 FACES: FEATURING JOSHUA LEONARD

This in-person conversation honors Michael Anderson and continues the Hero of a 1000 Faces series, which shares stories that broaden how Black men are seen through creative work and lived experience. Illustrator, concept artist, character designer, and traditional 2D animator Joshua Leonard will reflect on his creative path, the animation field, and the importance of representation in storytelling. Leonard’s background includes work with Netflix, Nickelodeon, Disney, Illumination, and The Jim Henson Company. He currently serves as a Character and Prop Designer at Lion Forge Entertainment on Seasons 1 and 2 of Cartoon Network’s IYANU. The program takes place at the Alvin Sherman Library on the second floor in the Cotilla Gallery. Complimentary light bites will be available. The Wizard of Oz

Presented at First Baptist Fort Lauderdale, this stage version of L. Frank Baum’s tale draws on the 1939 MGM film, with songs by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg and music by Herbert Stothart. Dorothy and her dog Toto travel the yellow brick road to the Emerald City to ask the Wizard for a way home. On the path they encounter good and wicked witches, Munchkins, talking trees, and winged monkeys. They also befriend a Scarecrow hoping for a brain, a Tin Man who longs for a heart, and a Lion searching for courage. Featuring the familiar characters and songs from the movie, the production brings Oz to the stage and highlights themes of friendship, understanding, and hope.

A sweeping salute to Andrew Lloyd Webber and other Broadway favorites comes to the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center, with international countertenor Terry Barber and award-winning performer Shelley Keelor reimagining beloved numbers from Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Aspects of Love, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Les Miserables, Chicago, Hamilton, The Phantom of the Opera, and more. Barber, a former member of the multiple Grammy Award winning ensemble Chanticleer, is an eight-time Grammy nominee for his recent solo album Reimagined: Mercury. He has performed in 17 languages and appeared as a soloist on renowned stages including the Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, and Moscow’s Svetlanov Hall. “Barber has star quality,” noted the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Keelor, a Silver Palm and Carbonell award-winning actor, singer, and international soloist, has led productions nationwide in roles such as Snow White in Disenchanted, Trish in Kinky Boots, and the Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd. At Markham Park, Top Step Kidz presents a balance bike learn-to-ride series that helps children master cycling by focusing on balance first. Rather than using training wheels that hold the bike up and delay real stability, kids practice gliding and steering on their own so they build control and confidence. This balance-first approach supports a quicker, smoother move to a pedal bike with fewer setbacks. The program uses a calm, supportive progression tailored to each child, and groups are kept small to provide individual attention. Flexible start options are available. The annual Touch-a-Truck event returns to Bergeron Rodeo Grounds in Davie. Admission is free. A horn-free sensory hour is planned for children who are sensitive to loud sounds. Yoga on the Main & The Market

Enjoy a feel-good yoga experience for all levels on the main lawn at Las Olas Oceanside Park. Settle into a slow, accessible flow on the green space with uplifting music to keep the energy moving, then sink into deep releasing poses enhanced by a light aromatherapy treat. The setting invites time to unwind, meditate, and restore under the palm trees. The class is led by Lisa Pumper, E-RYT 500 and YACEP, a resident teacher at the LOOP who has been teaching since 2000 and is the founder of Ft Lauderdale Beach Yoga and YCFL. Plan to bring a beach towel or blanket instead of a mat, as the practice takes place on a firm turf surface that supports smooth movement and balance. Sunglasses can be helpful. A cash donation is suggested to support the teacher, supplies, and setup assistance, but it is not required and no one is turned away for lack of funds. RSVP and a participation waiver are required. Hourly metered parking is available nearby, and some street lots around the park are private with a daily flat rate. After class, The Market and the beach are just steps away, with local food and artisan vendors and makers to explore. Because weather near the beach can change quickly, organizers monitor conditions closely and share alerts. If a session must be canceled, attendees are typically notified at least 60 minutes in advance unless an unforeseen emergency occurs, and ticket holders receive email updates.

DRA Spring Buckle Series #3 of out 6

The third stop in the DRA Spring Buckle Series comes to Bergeron Rodeo Grounds with IBRA and NIH/TOH approvals. Riders earn points by horse and rider team across six races, and participation in at least four events is required to be eligible for awards. Each rider must complete three volunteer hours, with at least two of those hours finished by race five. Entries are accepted only through SaddleBook. Entry windows open ahead of the race and close the day of the show, and late entries are not accepted. The lineup features multiple classes: Open in a 4D format with a $40 entry, Youth 3D for $25, Adults 3D for $25, Masters 3D for $25, Open Poles with straight pay at $25, and Peewee with straight pay at $15. Rollover times from Open may be applied to Youth, Adults, and Masters. Exhibitions are available at $5 each or $20 for unlimited runs per horse. Kragh serves as Director of Burrowing Owl Conservation at Project Perch Inc., a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to safeguarding this tiny subterranean owl, and he is recognized by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission as a registered agent for the species.

The 5th Annual Bowl-A-Thon invites teams of family members, friends, and coworkers to enjoy a fun bowling experience. The cost is $40 per person and includes three hours of bowling, food, and nonalcoholic beverages. Register by 7/5/26 to secure an event T-shirt.
