Miles for Minds 5K

Chobee Clubhouse hosts its first ever 5K run and walk in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month. This community event brings people together to highlight mental health and to support transportation services that help members access essential programs for recovery, wellness, and connection. Whether taking to the course or cheering from the sidelines, every show of support helps reduce stigma and strengthens the community.

NSCA Saturday Madness

Take on a 100-target registered course set across 15 stations on the South Course in a squadded format with two rotations. Super Sport features 70 birds on the sub-gauge course. Lunch is included with the purchase of the main event entry. There are 35 carts available to reserve, and all remaining carts are offered on a first come, first served basis.

Advanced Defensive Handgun Level One (ADH1)

This advanced defensive handgun class focuses on applying pistol skills under pressure rather than in a static range setting. Coaching covers stance, an efficient draw from the holster with safe reholstering, refined trigger work and reset, recoil management, stress shooting, tactical target engagement, and close-range point shooting. Participants cultivate a defensive mindset, compare real-world defensive gunfighting to traditional range practice, and review equipment setup and proper grip. Instruction addresses eye and hand dominance, combative body positioning, sight lines and visual processing in dynamic environments, and using normal physiological and psychological responses in high-stress encounters to your advantage. Movement is a key element, including stepping off the line of attack, shooting while advancing and retreating, and prioritizing and engaging multiple threats. Two-handed techniques are explored across deliberate sighted fire, flash or subconscious sight pictures, and point shooting, along with speed and controlled magazine changes. The training runs about seven and a half hours. Tuition is $300 and includes range fees, targets, lunch, drinks, and merchandise. This course is intended for shooters already comfortable operating independently on a traditional indoor or outdoor range. Attendees must have fired at least 1,000 rounds through the handgun they will use, with 500 of those within the past 12 months, and should handle their firearm with consistent fundamentals at a level of unconscious competency. Participants must know how their handgun functions and be able to load, unload, and show clear. Those using semi-automatic pistols must be able to lock the slide to the rear and clear malfunctions. A firm grasp of basic firearm safety and range etiquette is required. The class involves working from a holster and shooting while moving in close proximity to other shooters without barriers, so mental and emotional readiness for that environment is essential. A concealed weapons license or a recent criminal background check is required. Private training is available beforehand for anyone who wants help meeting the prerequisites. Advance registration with Florida Firearms Training is required.

A monthly family meet-up offers an inclusive space for special needs families to connect and feel supported. It features an easygoing, family friendly setting where children can play comfortably and be themselves while parents share understanding, encouragement, and practical resources. The focus is on kindness and acceptance so every child and caregiver feels at ease. The primary gathering spot is The Wooden Jungle in Okeechobee, with the Sports Complex Pavilion used if rain moves activities under cover. Everyday Vehicle engagement

Spend a full day at Okeechobee Shooting Sports building practical skills for engagements in and around vehicles. The curriculum focuses on safe, competent use of everyday carry pistols and tactical firearms, along with practical medical skills using an Individual First Aid Kit for self and buddy care. Training scenarios cover working from outside a vehicle, inside a vehicle, and engaging into a vehicle from external positions, with attention to cover and concealment, stable shooting positions, confined spaces, precision, and rapid response. Ballistic testing explores how different rounds interact with common vehicle materials, and malfunction drills reinforce keeping firearms operational under stress. Participants should be physically capable and already confident in safe weapon handling. Required gear includes a pistol with an inside the waistband or outside the waistband holster, eye and ear protection, spare magazines, and at least 200 rounds of pistol ammunition. A backpack subgun or a short barreled rifle or pistol is optional, and if brought should be supported with 100 rounds of ammunition.

Florida Baptist Convention’s free dental van offers care for individuals without dental insurance who need a filling or an extraction. To be eligible, income must be under 200 percent of the poverty level, and financial qualification is required before being seen. Space is limited.

Presented by Daron Gregory Washington Sr. Outreach Incorporated, this community beauty contest celebrates the legacy of educator and leader Douglas Brown by highlighting education, service, and a sense of royalty. Elders from Douglas Park and Deans Court, together with the board, will crown winners across three divisions: Mr and Miss Douglas Brown for ages 14 to 19, Mr Jr and Miss Jr Douglas Brown for ages 10 to 13, and Little Mr and Miss Douglas Brown for ages 5 to 9. Details about the responsibilities for each title are provided in the registration form. After registration is completed and payment is received, participants will receive an email with the next steps.
