THE PILLOWMAN by Martin McDonagh | Lumen Rep Theatre
A stark tale of storytelling and responsibility unfolds when, in a harsh authoritarian state, a writer known for macabre children’s tales is taken into custody and questioned about narratives that seem to echo real crimes. As fact and fiction intertwine, the play confronts the question of what people owe the truth. Written by Martin McDonagh, whose credits include In Bruges, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and The Banshees of Inisherin. Presented by Lumen Repertory Theatre at WJCT Studio B. The engagement features a pay what you can preview, a blue carpet opening night, a special NEXTGEN Night, and a matinee with a talkback afterward. Afterglow gatherings take place after every performance.
WJCT Studio BSeth Walker at Blue Jay Listening Room
Americana artist Seth Walker brings a soulful, Southern-tinged voice, strong melodies and lyrics, and agile guitar work to Blue Jay Listening Room. His twelfth studio album, Why The Worry, leans into a simple mantra of letting go. The project was nearly complete when Hurricane Helene struck the mountains around Asheville where he lives, and for a time it seemed it might not be released. The guiding theme returned to the forefront, and the songs moved forward with purpose. Raised on a commune in rural North Carolina by classically trained musicians, Walker played cello before picking up the guitar in his twenties. A spark from his Uncle Landon Walker, a musician and disc jockey, led him to the blues and to inspirations like T-Bone Walker, Snooks Eaglin, and B.B. King. Since then he has released a dozen albums, earned Top 20 placements at Americana Radio, reached number 2 on Billboard’s Blues Albums chart, and received recognition from NPR, American Songwriter, No Depression, and Relix. Known for steady touring at venues and festivals around the world, he has also opened for The Mavericks, Marc Broussard, The Wood Brothers, Raul Malo, Paul Thorn, and Ruthie Foster. Time spent living in Austin, New Orleans, and Nashville before moving to Asheville in 2020 colors a sound that respects roots and tradition while embracing modern songwriting, blending blues, gospel, pop, R&B, rock, and a touch of country.

1750 EventsAuditions for THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG
Players by the Sea Mainstage hosts in-person auditions for The Play That Goes Wrong, a high-spirited farce that blends Monty Python style antics with a Sherlock Holmes style mystery as a community troupe attempts a 1920s whodunit and everything goes hilariously off the rails. This call is not by appointment, so plan to sign in before the audition begins. Pre-registration is available to save time in line and is encouraged but not required. Expect cold readings from the script. Please bring a headshot and resume, or note that these will be on file if you pre-registered. Bring a list of all known scheduling conflicts for the rehearsal and performance window. Rehearsals typically take place on select weeknights with occasional weekends, primarily at Players by the Sea, and any additional locations will be shared with the cast in advance. Written by Henry Shields, Henry Lewis, and Jonathan Sayer, directed by Tracy Olin, and sponsored by Holly and Redgie Gutshall. This call is for non-equity performers, and comfort with a British dialect is important. Roles include Chris, a tightly wound director for whom everything is at stake; Robert, a grand, declamatory presence who vies with Chris for leadership; Sandra, an ambitious performer with a physical track who briefly appears in underwear and is therefore not considered for anyone under 18; Max, a wide-eyed newcomer who follows directions and basks in audience approval; Dennis, a socially awkward participant who finds laughter painful; Trevor, the sound and light operator who is dragged onstage despite hating to act; Annie, the stage manager who begins terrified of performing and grows into it with fierce determination; and Jonathan, a capable player with a dash of James Bond swagger who helps drive the action. Most roles list a playing range of 25 to 45 and are open to any ethnicity, with gender identity noted in each description. Questions may be directed to auditions@playersbythesea.org, and phone inquiries are not accepted.

Kathryn Abby Hannah ParkCrosby Sanctuary (Orange Park, FL)
Explore Crosby Sanctuary on a guided birding outing led by Jessica Dyszel, organized in collaboration by Duval Audubon Society and Alachua Audubon Society. This 510-acre preserve along the Ortega River, owned by Duval Audubon Society, includes cypress swamp, herbaceous marsh, pine flatwoods, and live oak hammocks. A total of 158 bird species have been recorded here, and access is limited, so this outing provides a rare chance to experience the property. The focus is on spring nesters such as Prothonotary Warblers and Yellow-crowned Night Herons. Early in the day offers the best chance to see the night herons, which may forage close to the trail before moving deeper into the swamp as the day goes on. A local pair of breeding Short-tailed Hawks is also possible, though sightings are never guaranteed. After the walk, participants may continue birding around Clay County at places like Black Creek Park, Camp Chowenwaw, or The Rookery, where Yellow-breasted Chats have nested historically. Be prepared for uneven ground. The main trail is under a mile and has many cypress knees that can cause trips, and sections may flood after heavy rain. Back trails through pine flatwoods span 2 to 3 miles, and the group will decide on the day whether to include them. Those who prefer less walking can relax at the picnic table near the main entrance to watch the feeders and scan the skies for hawks. The site is not wheelchair accessible and the only restroom on site is a composting toilet. Bring sun protection, water, snacks, insect repellent for mosquitoes and biting flies, sturdy walking or hiking shoes, and binoculars. Dress for swamp conditions. Traveling from Gainesville, take State Road 21, also known as Blanding Boulevard, about 20 minutes past Middleburg, then turn left at the Bellair intersection, which becomes Aquarius Concourse. A Gate gas station across from the Bellair intersection offers a standard restroom, and Red Owl Coffee is along the way for those who want a beverage.
