The Art of Rest: A Journey Through Movement, Stillness & Sound

Set aside time for a restorative experience that blends gentle movement, guided rest, and soothing sound. Offered in person in Port Orange and live online via Zoom, this workshop is led by yoga and meditation teacher Krista Oakes with live sound by sound therapist Cat Laiacone. The session begins with accessible movement to ease the body and settle the mind, then shifts into Yoga Nidra, a guided practice often called yogic sleep that invites deep physical rest while maintaining relaxed awareness. Throughout, crystal singing bowls and chimes create a calming soundscape that supports relaxation, presence, and renewal. The experience is suitable for a wide range of abilities and comfort levels, with options to practice on a yoga mat, in a chair, or a mix of both. No prior yoga, meditation, or sound healing experience is needed. The in person option is a small group setting limited to 14 participants and is priced at $55. The online option allows you to participate from home for $35 and includes the full gentle yoga and Yoga Nidra practice, with some live sound potentially heard although audio quality can vary. Important considerations include consulting a physician if you have a pacemaker or metal medical implants, as sound vibrations may interact with certain devices, and turning off or removing hearing aids during the sound portion to avoid feedback or discomfort. Guided by Krista’s more than two decades of experience in stress reduction and mindful living, and supported by Cat’s training in sound therapy, coaching, and integrative practices, this session is designed to help you slow down, release tension, and reconnect with what matters most.

Laser Rock Concerts: I Love the 80s

At Lohman Planetarium, an immersive laser rock experience celebrates the era of big hair, synthesizers, and MTV. The night features three shows. Laser Rock sets the tone, Laser Retro highlights favorites from artists like Bon Jovi and Journey, and a salute to legends such as Ozzy Osbourne leads into Laser Tribute, a patriotic finale set to American anthems and crowd-pleasing classics. Admission is free for Museum members with registration, and tickets are $10 per show for non-members. Please note that the laser presentations may include bright flashing lights, elevated sound levels, and atmospheric fog or haze. Individuals with light or sound sensitivities should use discretion.
