Penn & Teller: 50 Years of Magic | Fort Myers, FL

At Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall at FSW, Penn Jillette and Teller mark five decades on stage with a live production that blends astonishing illusions, sharp wit, and a touch of social commentary. Their journey spans street performances in Philadelphia, three Broadway engagements, and a record breaking Las Vegas show at The Rio Hotel & Casino, where they helped reshape modern magic. Their early New York run earned honors including an Obie and a Lucille Lortel Award, and their most recent Broadway return became the highest grossing non musical of its entire engagement, even topping Hamilton for a week. They appear in nearly 300 performances each year at major venues around the world, and their long running Las Vegas show has received nine Las Vegas Magicians of the Year awards along with strong praise from the Los Angeles Times. On television, Penn & Teller: Fool Us! invites rising and veteran magicians to try to outsmart them for a chance to appear in their Las Vegas production. The series earned a Critics Choice nomination, has been renewed for an 11th season, and stands as the longest continually running American magic show on TV. Their many appearances across late night, scripted comedies, and specials for major networks have brought an Emmy, a Writers Guild Award, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Their Showtime series Penn & Teller: BS! received 13 Emmy nominations and spotlighted their signature skepticism. Their creative work extends to film and theater with the BAFTA nominated documentary Tim’s Vermeer, the feature The Aristocrats, the short The Gambler’s Ballad, and the Olivier nominated West End comedy Magic Goes Wrong created with Mischief Theatre, which set a pre sale record. In 2024 they produced two Off Broadway projects, The Mind Mangler and Stalker. Teller has directed acclaimed productions of Macbeth and The Tempest, co wrote and directed Play Dead, and authored two books. Penn has written five books, including the New York Times best sellers God No! and Presto, hosted the game show Identity, and competed on Dancing With The Stars. Together they also performed incognito on The Masked Singer. Recognitions from the Academy of Magical Arts include two Magicians of the Year awards and the 2024 Masters Fellowship. Their long standing community efforts in Las Vegas include fundraising for AFAN and Opportunity Village, the annual blood drive Penn & Teller’s 13 Bloody Days of Christmas with more than 85,000 donors, and a holiday tour with the USO. This engagement salutes 50 years of inventive magic paired with quick, irreverent humor.

FMAS May Meeting: Bettas for Beginners

The monthly meeting and auction at IMAG History & Science Center features a presentation titled Bettas for Beginners. This session offers an accessible overview of Betta splendens with practical guidance for everyday aquarists on keeping this species. It is a broad introduction to Bettas and has been well received by audiences. The speaker brings decades of hands-on experience. Fishkeeping began at age nine, with early breeding successes that included Colisa lalia, followed by Colisa chuna (sota), Colisa fasciata, and C. labiosa. A lifelong passion for wild Bettas started after reading All About Bettas by Walt Maurus, leading to correspondence with other aquarists, locating wild Betta stocks, and writing articles. Academic work in Ichthyology included managing the Ichthyology laboratory at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, building deep knowledge of fish diseases, pathogens, and the native fishes of North America. Around 2000 the Betta focus intensified again, with more than 80 aquariums maintained over time and successful spawning of a wide range of species, from barbs and African and American cichlids to killifish, livebearers, and even saltwater species such as clownfish and seahorses. Current leadership roles include Judging Board Chair of the International Betta Congress and editor of FLARE! magazine, along with service as BAP chair and President of the Oklahoma Aquarium Association and past HAP and Presentations Chair. Additional roles include Treasurer for the American Labyrinth Fishes Association, President of the Oklahoma Betta Breeders Association, and board member and Secretary of FOTAS while editing its Fish Tales Magazine, which has received multiple FAAS awards. Wild Bettas and other anabantoids remain the central focus.

Phil Hogan Comedy

Phil Hogan brings decades of stage experience to a set that blends Southern stand-up with tuneful comedy. A North Carolina native who spent his early career touring as a musician, he stepped into professional comedy in 1990 and has been sharpening his ability to read a room ever since. The show mixes sharp jokes with original songs, playful guitar antics, and musical impressions. This is not a typical strum and parody routine... he is a skilled player who uses the guitar for humor rather than a run of parodies. Material ranges from clean to a little edgier. Over the years he has shared the bill with Jeff Foxworthy, Carrot Top, Jerry Reed, Ron White, and Bill Engvall.

Wigglesworth New Play Contest

The Laboratory Theater of Florida presents concert readings of the three finalists for the 2026 Louise Wigglesworth Excellence in Playwriting Award, with a talkback following each reading. The winner, Symbiotic by Baylee Shlichtman, follows Marichka, an aquarist at a jellyfish museum in Kyiv who works to keep a dear friend’s memory alive during the Russo-Ukrainian war. When a veteran begins visiting the museum, an unlikely connection reshapes both of their lives in a story that nurtures hope and, fittingly, jellyfish. Simon Bowler’s Redshift tracks a brilliant scientist determined to prove the universe is expanding, even at the risk of his reputation, marriage, and peace of mind. Along the way he wrestles with Einstein’s skepticism, the ghost of his father, and his own crisis of faith. John Mabey’s A Thousand Words centers on a distinctive piece of Southern land that binds a family across generations. The arrival of a stranger unsettles the idea of home, difficult choices reveal buried truths, and the possibility of redemption emerges through a camera’s lens between what photographs display and what they keep hidden. The play reflects on how place ties people together, how change resists easy resolution, and how a spark that resembles love can echo through those who follow.

RB Stone

RB Stone takes the stage for a blues-driven concert shaped by a life steeped in hard-earned stories. He embraces labels from blues cowboy and country bluesman to Americana and roots rock, and his journey spans early years on a Midwest rail crew, blue collar trades, and a move to Colorado where he learned horsemanship by day and taught himself guitar by night. From campfire sets to international tours, he has released 18 independent albums, performed in 32 countries across five continents, and sold more than 40,000 albums directly to fans at concerts and festivals. His song catalog includes work with Gwen Gordy at EMI, his tunes have been recorded by The Marshall Tucker Band, and his career includes national commercials, music videos, collaborations with Hiroshima and The Charlie Daniels Band, and a songwriting honor from Billboard Magazine. Opening the show is Gareth Rockliffe, a UK native and professional photographer who has been writing songs for three decades. His music carries the same reflective spirit found in his award-winning short film series Contemplations, which blends imagery and spoken word to explore themes of love, loss, awareness, and connection. Tickets are available at the door. Suggested door donations are $15 for ACMA members and $20 for general admission.

Written by Jeanne Michels and Phyllis Murphy, the story explores bingo culture, family connections, diet crazes, widowhood, hot flashes, and the rush of a win. The fun extends into the audience during the "Middle Bird Special," a real bingo round where one attendee takes home a complimentary 10 pound frozen turkey at every performance. Two male performers bring these larger than life women to the stage, keeping theatergoers of all ages laughing as The Queen of Bingo delivers quick banter and big laughs.

Songs of the Folk in Concert! Dennis Michael Opens

A.T. and Lauren Cason grew up in different parts of the Carolinas, met while studying music in college in the early 2000s, and have been performing together ever since. Their training and Carolina Piedmont roots shape a distinctive American folk sound that feels fresh while drawing deeply from Southern folk, country, and blues traditions. Their catalog spans numerous singles, the EP Songs of the Folk, and the debut album Sun-Scorched Land, with a second full-length titled In the Old Kingdom on the horizon. These recordings took shape in a centuries-old converted barn in Maldon, Essex and at St. Michael’s in Woodham Walter, a Church of England parish chapel dating to the 1500s. On stage they interweave storytelling with the music, highlighting fingerstyle guitar, refined vocal harmonies, and carefully crafted lyrics to create a welcoming, engaging experience. Their work also reaches people in challenging circumstances through their nonprofit For the Folk, bringing music to shelters, rehab centers, and prisons. ACMA member Dennis Michael opens the show. A singer and songwriter from Long Island, New York, he blends folk, blues, and indie into narrative-driven songs with vivid lyrics and rich melodies. His background as a session musician, writer, and collaborator, including work with Caprice Records and RockMill Studios, has helped shape a sound centered on heartfelt performances and thoughtful storytelling that explores themes of love, loss, and personal growth. Door donations are Members $15 and General Admission $20. Tickets are available at the door.
