A Talk In The Woods: Growing Gabbers (2-4 years old)

A gentle, play-centered communication program for toddlers and young preschoolers ages 2 to 4, guided by licensed Speech-Language Pathologist Kristi Bianchini. Set in an outdoor play space that embraces nature and a farm setting, the session blends movement, sensory exploration, and meaningful interaction to support developing communication skills. Children practice expanding vocabulary and beginning to combine words into phrases, strengthen back-and-forth interaction and social communication, learn to follow directions and deepen understanding of language, and build confidence expressing wants, needs, and ideas. Caregivers take part and learn simple, effective strategies to encourage communication at home. This is not a sit still class, and children are free to move, explore, and engage at their own pace with gentle guidance. It is well suited for children who are late talkers or using limited words or phrases, who need support expanding language or clarity of speech, or who benefit from modeled language in a playful environment. The cost is $30 per child, and families will complete a brief intake form so the session can be thoughtfully tailored to individual communication needs.

Lunar Let Go

At Good Vibes Yoga Studio, this full moon gathering honors May’s Full Flower Moon in Scorpio with a yogic ceremony devoted to release and renewal. The experience opens with breathwork, oracle insights, and journaling, placing what needs to be released onto paper. Participants are guided to notice thoughts and attachments that feel out of alignment, setting clear intentions to let go of what weighs on the mind and body. As the sun sinks and the sky glows with vivid color, the group moves through a lunar-inspired yoga flow, then welcomes the moonrise and the calming, compassionate energy of Mama Killa. Bathed in her gentle light, everyone settles into a vibrational sound journey. The evening closes in a supportive circle, offering a symbolic release to water and earth, with space to be witnessed by kindred spirits and to step forward on the Dharmic path with steadiness and confidence. All levels are welcome, from first-time practitioners to seasoned yogis. The cost is $50. To secure a spot, prepayment is accepted via Eventbrite or Venmo at @GoodVibesYogaStudio, and Venmo payment can help avoid third-party processing fees. For questions or reservations, reach out via Facebook Messenger, email GoodVibesYogaStudioCT@gmail.com, or call or text 203-824-1929.

Shanna In A Dress

This show brings together Shanna In A Dress with Lee Totten and Dylan Patrick Ward for a showcase of witty songwriting and heartfelt storytelling. Shanna In A Dress pairs quirky best friend energy with unfiltered candor, guiding listeners from laughter to vulnerability within a single tune. Picture the storytelling spirit of John Prine and the indie charm of Ingrid Michaelson with a playful nod to Phoebe Buffay, all carried by a sweet voice and the sounds of guitar, piano, and ukulele. Boston songwriter Lee Totten delivers upbeat yet reflective acoustic music that blends folk, pop, and rock, sharing insight and humor through both his lyrics and the stories that link his songs. From the dirty south of Vermont, Dylan Patrick Ward crafts darkly comic, sharply drawn, melodic songs about outsiders, oddballs, aliens, snowmen, and love, with empathy and hope running beneath the surface. An optional, affordable dinner will be available. A free will suggested donation will be collected at the door.

The Alpaca Gnomes

Returning to Space Ballroom, The Alpaca Gnomes, a seven-piece rock folk band from Bridgeport, Connecticut, turn the stage into a lively celebration of sound and community. Electric guitars soar alongside fiddle and sax, with driving percussion and a stomp-and-groove pulse that blends Americana, freewheeling jam improvisation, and high-octane rock. They have shared bills with Blues Traveler, Railroad Earth, Living Colour, Anders Osborne, and The Meters, and have welcomed guests such as Ed Mann, Mihali, and Mystic Bowie. What sets their shows apart is the connection they build with the crowd. Each performance feels both like a concert and a communal gathering, all heart and hard to forget. The Brian Larney Band and more

A melody rich night at Best Video Film & Cultural Center pairs The Brian Larney Band with The Shellye Valauskas Experience. The cover is $10. The Brian Larney Band delivers hook driven rock and pop built around songwriter Brian Larney. Expect ringing guitars, big refrains, and the melodic spirit of 70s and 80s guitar pop. Larney sings and plays guitar and keys with Dean Falcone on lead guitar and vocals, Bob Hibson on bass, and Jim Balga on drums, a lineup that brings both power and subtlety. Larney’s songs have appeared in film and television, and he has performed alongside artists such as Cheap Trick, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, and Ellis Paul. In a full band setting those melodies hit with extra force, shaped by strong players and tightly crafted songs. Based in the New Haven area, Shellye Valauskas and Dean Falcone lead The Shellye Valauskas Experience, crafting meticulously arranged power pop with a strong emphasis on power. Sparkling melodies and sharp, often jangly guitars recall standout moments from the 1970s and 1980s, with echoes of Big Star, the Raspberries, and Aimee Mann. History of Panic offers catchy choruses, swirly guitars, and melodies that draw listeners in.

Flowers and Flow

Thistle and Grace Florals presents a two hour Flowers and Flow workshop timed for the Mother’s Day season. This experience invites participants to slow down, reconnect, and create in a warm, thoughtful community. It begins with gentle, breath-centered yoga to settle the body and calm the mind. Participants then explore the language of flowers, a longstanding tradition that pairs blooms with symbolic meanings, and consider how these stories reflect personal intentions and life’s seasons. Inspired by that reflection, the group designs a flower mandala with seasonal blooms, composing a living arrangement through color, texture, and form for a meditative practice in presence, creativity, and shared beauty. The workshop concludes with a guided meditation to reflect, integrate the experience, and carry a sense of calm and connection forward. No experience in yoga or floral design is required. Estate Planning Seminar

This complimentary estate planning seminar at Hilton Garden Inn Wallingford/Meriden includes a continental breakfast and covers practical ways to organize your affairs and care for loved ones. Learn how to choose between a will and a trust, what the SECURE Act means for inherited IRAs, and approaches that can help reduce taxes for beneficiaries. The program explains how to keep matters private and spare family from court if you become unable to communicate, noting that some powers of attorney are not adequate. It walks through the probate process and actions you can take now to help family avoid delays and expense later. Guidance is provided on potential estate tax exposure and methods to lessen or eliminate it. You will hear about building a long term care plan so you can remain as independent as possible and retain control of important decisions. The seminar addresses why joint ownership or placing property in a child’s name can create problems and what safer options exist instead. It also outlines ways to protect an inheritance from divorce, lawsuits, or bankruptcy, and how to preserve children’s shares if a surviving spouse later remarries. Additional topics include qualifying for Medicaid to handle nursing home costs that can average $14,000 per month, along with planning for family members with special needs while maintaining eligibility for benefits such as Medicaid and SSI. Attendees are eligible for a complimentary consultation with an estate planning attorney.

Kath Bloom & David Shapiro, Mountain Movers at Best Video Sat., May 16

Kath Bloom and David Shapiro share the stage with Mountain Movers at Best Video Film & Cultural Center. The cover is $10. Connecticut based singer songwriter Kath Bloom is known for a wavering soprano and a blend of country, blues, and folk. She made very limited edition albums in the 70s and 80s with guitarist Loren Mazzacane Connors. After time devoted to raising a family, working with problem horses, and teaching special music programs to kids, her song Come Here appeared in Richard Linklater's film Before Sunrise, which brought renewed attention. Since then, older recordings and new material have resurfaced, including a tribute album featuring Josephine Foster, Bill Callahan, Devendra Banhart, Meg Baird, and Scout Nibblet. Since 2017 she has been recording and performing with New Haven guitarist David Shapiro. Mountain Movers, a long running New Haven band, features guitarist and vocalist Dan Greene, bassist Rick Omonte, guitarist Kryssi Battalene, and drummer Ross Menze. This lineup has played together for over a decade, first appearing on a series of singles from 2011 to 2013. Their album Death Magic arrived in 2015 on Safety Meeting, followed by a self titled release on Trouble In Mind that same year, Pink Skies in 2018, and World What World in 2020, written and recorded before the world shut down. Their ninth album, Walking After Dark, balances Greene's lyrical songwriting with the group's long form improvisations.

Author Talk & Book Signing: Jedediah Berry and Ryan Habermeyer

An afternoon of reading and conversation with award winning authors Jedediah Berry and Ryan Habermeyer unfolds at The Watch Factory Shoppes in Cheshire. They share recent work, reflect on the forces that shape their writing, answer questions, and sign books. Ryan Habermeyer, a Los Angeles native with an M.F.A. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri, is the author of the forthcoming novel Necronauts and the story collections Salt Folk and The Science of Lost Futures. His award winning pieces have appeared in Conjunctions, Alaska Quarterly Review, Massachusetts Review, Copper Nickel, Cincinnati Review, Puerto del Sol, Flyway, Fairy Tale Review, DIAGRAM, Blackbird, and Cimarron Review. A Fulbright Scholar who has lived, taught, and studied in Poland, Scotland, Spain, and Mexico, he serves as Associate Professor of Creative Writing at Salisbury University. Necronauts visits Calypsee, Utah, a fundamentalist town where a helmeted boy dreams of space, and unfolds through ninety five obituary style entries with vernacular photographs. It reframes Pinocchio through playful sci fi, traces bonds between fathers and sons, and offers a sharp look at 1980s Americana where fervent faith and questionable science blur into a feverish fantasy. Jedediah Berry’s latest novel, The Naming Song, received the Massachusetts Book Award for fiction and was a finalist for the LA Times Book Prize. His debut, The Manual of Detection, earned the Crawford Award and the Hammett Prize and was later adapted for broadcast on BBC Radio 4. His work includes interactive projects such as The Family Arcana, which was a finalist for a World Fantasy Award. He co creates the Wildendrem adventure setting with Andrew McAlpine, beginning with The Valley of Flowers, recipient of an Ennie Award, and runs Ninepin Press with his partner, writer Emily Houk. He lives in Western Massachusetts. The Naming Song imagines a world where language disappears, meaning unravels, and once fluid borders must be remade. Committees devoted to Maps, Ghosts, Dreams, and Names rise to contain monsters and bind ghosts. An unnamed courier for the Names Committee delivers new words that secure her place until a series of attacks forces her to flee in search of her long lost sister. With a patchwork ghost, a worried monster, and a nameless creature at her side, she uncovers secrets that point toward a transformative future.

A Talk In The Woods: Barnyard Babblers (12-24 months old)

A gentle, play-centered communication group welcomes toddlers ages 12 to 24 months to build early language in an outdoor play space. Guided by licensed speech-language pathologist Kristi Bianchini, each session blends nature, movement, and purposeful interaction to support emerging talkers. Through sensory play and farm-themed activities, children practice early sounds and gestures, begin using first words, strengthen back-and-forth interaction, and grow confidence sharing wants and needs. Caregivers learn practical strategies to encourage communication at home while little ones deepen understanding of language through real experiences. This is an active setting where children are free to move, explore, and engage at their own pace with gentle support. It is well suited for toddlers who use few or no words, are working on imitating sounds or gestures, or would benefit from a bit more help with communication. Cost is $30 per child. A caregiver is required to participate, and families complete a brief intake form so sessions can be tailored to individual needs.

Designing Meadows and Naturalized Plantings for a Human Landscape with Kathy Connolly

At CNTR, landscape designer Kathy Connolly explores how meadows and other naturalized plantings can echo nature’s patterns and support local ecology, while still fitting comfortably into places people use every day. The program looks at how thoughtful planning and occasional compromise help these landscapes gain acceptance in human settings. Discussion points include choosing an appropriate scale, placing plantings in relation to visitors, keeping views open, shaping paths and edges, adding seating and signs, and setting maintenance expectations. Presented in person and on Zoom. Connolly specializes in naturalized design, low-impact landscape techniques, and native plants, and holds an MA from the Conway Graduate Program in Sustainable Landscape Planning and Design.

Metaphysical Movement + Massage: a Full Blue Moon in Sagittarius ritual

Under May’s Full Blue Moon in Sagittarius, a ritual led by Good Vibes Yoga Studio’s Deonna Thomas and Transcend Fest’s Aria Nyx focuses on soothing the mind, body, and soul. The experience begins with a communal oracle reading, cleansing of body and space with sacred smoke, essential oil supported breathwork, and a celestial meditation that invites connection with the wisdom of the cosmos and ancestors. Participants then rest in restorative yin poses while receiving reiki and massage to encourage energetic balance and physical release. Through gentle movement, deep rest, shifts in energy, and soft touch, the nervous system is invited to relax so the body can let go of tension and long held emotions. The fiery quality of Sagittarius supports the release of burdens, heavy feelings, and limiting narratives, creating room for a renewed sense of freedom while staying grounded. Stillness, soothing sound vibrations, and reiki invite a transcendental state, followed by time for sharing and integration so what emerged can be processed with care. Beginners and seasoned yogis alike are welcome. The self care investment is $60. Prepayment can be made via Eventbrite or by Venmo to @GoodVibesYogaStudio to avoid processing fees. Author Event: Jane Buyers

At ReRead bookstore, author Jane Buyers will share the story behind her new memoir, EIGHT SEPTEMBERS: A WOMAN ON WALL STREET FROM 9/11 TO LEHMAN, followed by a book signing. The memoir moves with a novel-like pace as it traces her path as a young mother building a banking career at J.P. Morgan, beginning on the morning of 9/11 in downtown Manhattan and continuing through the upheavals that led to the 2008 financial crisis. She recounts survival, service to help steady the financial system, and the mounting pressures of leadership, reflecting with candor on the tension between professional demands and family life, as well as the personal reckoning that followed. The book received the Florida Writers Association’s 2023 Royal Literary Palm Gold for unpublished memoir and has been praised for accessible explanations, emotional depth, a strong and human voice, natural flow, convincing dialogue, and vivid detail, offering a rare insider perspective that remains clear to readers without financial backgrounds. Buyers previously served as a Managing Director and senior banker at J.P. Morgan Chase, was named an Honorary Trustee of Simmons University in 2025, and has held board roles with the Collegiate Church, the Center for Hearing and Communication, the Robert Toigo Foundation, and C. Brewer & Co., Ltd. After her banking career, she turned to writing as a creative and therapeutic outlet, guided by values of alignment, balance, and compassion.

Bad Cop Bad Cop w/ Pretty Bitter at Space Ballroom

Bad Cop Bad Cop appears with Pretty Bitter at Space Ballroom, presented by Premier Concerts and Manic Presents. This all ages show features the Southern California quartet of Stacey Dee, Linh Le, Myra Gallarza, and Alex Windsor, whose fourth album Lighten Up was released in 2025 on Fat Wreck Chords and Hopeless Records. The record explores perseverance and gratitude through personal storytelling, with songs like Strugglinh and See Me Now from Linh Le, Straight Out of Detox and Note to Self from Stacey Dee, and the long-in-the-works Dead Friends. Note to Self includes a collaboration with LA underground rapper 2Mex. Lighten Up grew out of close Sunday writing sessions and was recorded at the Compound in Long Beach with producer Antoine Arvizu along with Miguel, following earlier singles Shattered and Safe and Legal tracked there in 2023. The band then devoted intensive days to vocals with John E. Carey Jr., adding third harmonies from Gallarza. Windsor’s guitar work and music theory background helped elevate arrangements, including the end section of I4NI. The album also expands their melodic punk into new textures, touching jazz in Las Ventanas, a dub-leaning feel in Note to Self, and a reimagined version of Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros’ Johnny Appleseed.

Digging Deeper into Ecological Horticulture with Uli Lorimer

This in-person and Zoom program explores ecological horticulture, a nature-centered approach that contrasts with mainstream gardening. The session unpacks core ideas and questions familiar routines, including the importance of genetic diversity, when cultivated selections of native species may be appropriate, and how climate change should influence plant choices. The goal is practical guidance for creating and caring for gardens that function in step with the environment. Uli Lorimer leads the program. He is Director of Horticulture for the Native Plant Trust, a nonprofit focused on the native flora of the Northeastern United States, where he oversees Garden in the Woods in Framingham and Nasami Farm in Western Massachusetts, centers for native plant propagation and research. White Castle Slider Search - Meriden, CT

The White Castle USA Luge Slider Search brings wheeled luge to Meriden, CT, identifying promising young athletes for the national program and future Olympic teams. White Castle, the nation’s first fast food chain, is the exclusive sponsor and supports the team’s off-season recruiting tour that travels nationwide through the summer and fall. Clinics are free, and every participant receives a White Castle USA Luge Slider Search T-shirt. The program focuses on boys and girls ages 10 to 13. Each participant registers for a single clinic online, and if plans change, cancellations are requested at least 48 hours in advance so another athlete can take the spot. Arrive before the clinic begins with a parent or legal guardian. Wear long, close-fitting pants, a long-sleeve shirt, and sneakers, with shorts and a T-shirt allowed during the physical testing portion. For safety, a clinic may be canceled in the event of rain and will not be rescheduled. Founded as a grassroots effort to develop future talent, the search feeds the USA Luge Junior Development Team, with many graduates moving on to the National and Olympic Teams. Alumni include Olympic medalists Erin Hamlin and Brian Martin, as well as sliders who later represented the United States at the Winter Games, including Marcus Mueller, Ansel Haugsjaa, Chevonne Forgan, Zack DiGregorio, and Jonny Gustafson.

Polyamory Somatic Processing Circle (Thurs June 25, 5:30-7)

Hosted at Revive Art & Craft Supply, this monthly circle blends somatic and creative practices in a one and a half hour format to support people navigating both the expansive and activating sides of polyamory and consensual non-monogamy. It is a practice space focused on working with the body, not an advice forum. Participants explore practical tools for meeting jealousy, conflict, and emotional triggers through guided exercises based on real experiences. Each gathering centers on a relational theme and weaves together education about the nervous system, facilitated somatic and creative processing, opportunities for small group witnessing, and time to integrate what is learned. The aim is to build durable skills and a trusted community that strengthens communication in polyamory or any relationship. Attendance is limited to 15 participants. Sessions are offered on a sliding scale of $10 to $20, and registration is available for one or multiple sessions, including registering more than one person at a time.

Whether you are celebrating or grieving your chest, binding or flaunting it, feeling frustrated by others’ assumptions, or simply want to enjoy an oat milk latte with people who understand, this space focuses on relaxed conversation rather than clinical talk, solidarity across identities, and playful humor that lightens big feelings. Conan w/ Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean, Disfigure at Space Balloom

Presented by Premier Concerts and Manic Presents, Conan headlines Space Ballroom with Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean and Disfigure. Formed in 2006 by guitarist and vocalist Jon Davis, Conan focuses on seismic low end, stripped-back, impressionistic lyrics, and a relentless emphasis on sheer sonic weight. The lineup features David Ryley, formerly of Fudge Tunnel, on bass and Johnny King on drums, delivering pummeling rhythms and thick, dark fuzz with cutting shouts riding above the crush. Across five studio albums released from 2012 to 2022, including Evidence of Immortality, the UK band has become a touchstone for modern heaviness. In 2024 they signed with Heavy Psych Sounds, adding atmospheric and synth-driven elements while keeping the core of their sound rooted in overwhelming power. 2026 Northern Exposure Individual Softball Recruiting Camp

Softball athletes gather at Dunn Sports Complex for an individual recruiting camp built around verified metrics and direct exposure to college coaches. Every participant completes athletic testing that captures sprint times, throwing velocity, and strength results, and all players have the chance to be seen by college programs. Rather than relying on what happens in a game, the combine format creates structured fielding opportunities so coaches can evaluate defensive plays. Portions of the showcase are filmed and compiled into a virtual presentation that is shared with more than 2,000 college softball coaches. Players also have the option to purchase a personalized mini skills video from Fastpitch Online Showcase LLC. The schedule groups athletes by position, with dedicated sessions for pitchers, catchers, infielders, and outfielders, and participants may choose multiple sessions for an additional fee to highlight a wider range of abilities. If weather becomes an issue, activities can move indoors. Enrollment is intentionally limited to keep groups small and maximize visibility. Registration is $145 for one position or $230 for two positions.
