Thomas M. McKee 4-H, Youth and Community BuildingGold Rush in Leadville
At Dunning Gallery, this exhibition presents prints that trace Leadville’s origins during the gold rush, when hopeful settlers journeyed west seeking fortune and a new start. The artwork pairs idealized imagery with unvarnished scenes, showing how discoveries in California Gulch in 1859 propelled a rough mining camp to become a rapidly growing industrial city in Colorado. Together, these pieces consider how mining, migration, and ambition shaped the community. An exhibit event, History Matters: Community History Harvest, created with the Colorado State University History Department, is free.

This gathering is open to players at every level, with guidance for newcomers who want to learn. The focus is friendly bridge play that keeps minds engaged while fostering connection. Mentally challenging games such as bridge offer regular intellectual and social stimulation. Hunchback Auditions
Northern Colorado Performing Arts is holding auditions for The Hunchback of Notre Dame, a musical drawn from Victor Hugo’s novel and the Disney film, featuring the movie’s acclaimed score alongside new songs by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz and a book by Peter Parnell that incorporates passages from the original text. The story centers on Quasimodo in fifteenth-century Paris and the forces that pull him toward Esmeralda and into conflict with Archdeacon Claude Frollo and Captain Phoebus. Auditions are open to performers ages 13 and up. The creative team welcomes artists of all races, creeds, ethnicities, and gender expressions and emphasizes an inclusive environment. The production explores mature themes, including xenophobia and racism, ableism, strong language, sexuality, and violence, so prospective auditioners and families should consider vocal, theatrical, and emotional readiness. Not everyone who auditions will be cast due to vocal, space, and time limitations. Prepare approximately 32 bars from a late 20th century or contemporary musical in the style of the show, such as Les Misérables, Titanic, Beauty and the Beast, or Into the Woods. Bring a karaoke-style accompaniment track on a phone, and do not use tracks with guide vocals, as clear pitch is essential. Audition forms will be provided at the theatre, and all scheduling conflicts should be listed on the form. A resume and headshot are encouraged if available. Email submissions are accepted by the director; use a subject line that begins with HUNCHBACK AUDITION followed by your name, include your conflicts, preferred roles, whether you will accept an ensemble position, and your pronouns, and attach your resume. Director: KB Heying (they/them), kbheying95@gmail.com. Assistant Director: Matthew Harpell (he/him), harpellmatt11@gmail.com. Music Director: Erin Bentley (she/they), erinbentleym5@gmail.com. Choreographer: Molly Kingston (they/she), mollykingston@me.com. Callbacks will focus on principal roles, with dance calls for Esmeralda and Clopin. A production fee of $325 applies. Certain leads, including Quasimodo, Esmeralda, and Phoebus, will be double cast, with actors alternating performances and appearing in the ensemble when not in their principal track. Principal roles sought include Quasimodo (tenor, substantial physical and vocal stamina), Claude Frollo (bass-baritone), Esmeralda (mezzo to alto, strong solo dancer), Phoebus de Martin (baritone with some tenor quality), Clopin Trouillefou (tenor, strong dancer), Jehan Frollo/St. Aphrodisius (baritone), and Florika (soprano), along with featured roles such as Father Dupin, Lieutenant Frederic Charlus, King Louis XI, an Official, and the Madam. The team encourages women of color to audition for Esmeralda and actors of color for Clopin in the spirit of honoring the world of the play, while welcoming all performers to be considered. The ensemble shapes the storytelling and reflects facets of Quasimodo’s inner life. It will be organized into Gargoyles, Saints, and a Bell chorus of five young performers ages 13 to 16 who represent the hope and light within his heart.

Enjoy a morning devoted to birds with a two-part experience that blends live research and a guided outing. It begins with a demonstration of bird banding led by Scott Rashid, Director of the Colorado Avian Research and Rehabilitation Institute. Songbirds are gently captured in nets, then identified, weighed, measured, and fitted with bands while Scott shares stories and findings from his work. Depending on how many birds arrive, attendees may even have a brief chance to hold one. Next, expert birder Sheila Webber, a board member of the Northern Colorado Bird Alliance, leads a guided walk around Equalizer Lake to look for local species. Using the free eBird app is recommended for logging observations. Dogs on leash are welcome, and children and strollers can participate. Trails are natural surface. This outdoor program runs weather permitting. If snow, rain, or extreme wind or cold occurs, updates will be shared on Facebook and by email. The series typically takes place on the first Saturday of the month and does not occur in January or July. Bird banding here contributes to a scientific program administered by the U.S. Geological Survey and the Canadian Wildlife Service, with data submitted to the USGS Bird Banding Laboratory to support research and conservation. Trained, licensed researchers conduct the work with the birds’ well-being as a priority, and the process is not known to harm or significantly affect them, as shown by birds returning to these sites to feed and nest. To be prepared, bring binoculars, comfortable walking shoes, layers for changing weather, water, a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses.

Fairgrounds ParkStars and Stripes Week - Day Camp at Ultimate Ninjas Academy
Celebrate America with a patriotic-themed day camp at Ultimate Ninjas Academy. Created for children ages 4 to 12, this week features games, crafts, and ninja-style challenges that match the theme while helping campers build skills and confidence. Each morning starts with check-in and warm-up games, then campers rotate through skill stations and a craft project. A quick snack and water break leads into an obstacle course challenge and more ninja games, followed by supervised free play and a cool down with time to reflect. Full-day participants have a supervised midday lunch and a chance to relax, and should bring a sack lunch. The afternoon welcomes new arrivals with a light warm-up, continues with fresh skill rotations and a craft, includes another snack and hydration break, features team challenges and games, offers open play and time to explore skills, and wraps up with a cool down before pick-up. For safety and comfort, participants should wear snug tennis shoes, skip jewelry, and have long hair tied back. Families with more than one camper can use a 10 percent sibling discount.

Wildfire Arts CenterSacred Geometry 1
Walk into spaces that feel lighter and more harmonious by learning practical ways to work with sacred geometry in this Level 1 class. Designed for moments when a room feels tense, an office carries heavy energy, or life has called for a fresh start, the teachings focus on using timeless geometric principles to uplift environments and restore clarity. At home, gain tools you can use regularly to clear stagnation and infuse your rooms with light, supporting greater creativity, deeper connections, and a more enriching meditation practice for everyone who lives there. In the workplace, apply the same methods to support focus, sustain a positive atmosphere, and keep low-vibration influences outside your personal space. Participants receive techniques for cleansing, energizing, protecting, and activating a room. The class offers a hands-on connection with key geometric forms, guidance for laying a simple grid and sealing a space for protection and enhancement, a method for building an energetic temple, and practices to awaken these patterns within the energy body. It is well suited to parents and grandparents, business professionals, healers, acupuncturists, yoga and massage practitioners, doctors, holistic providers, and anyone seeking additional ways to create sacred space. The material is preserved within the Modern Mystery School tradition and is presented as part of a long-standing lineage associated with King Salomon rather than a contemporary trend. This class is a prerequisite for Healer's Academy and is included in Healers Prep Weekend. Package pricing is available.
