Lyndy Butler and more

At Cavalcade, two Utah singer-songwriters share the stage for an evening where the music meets listeners right where they are. Lyndy Butler, a storytelling artist from the small towns of southern Utah, has shared bills with Emmylou Harris, John Prine, and Dolly Parton, who once gave her a wink. Her award-winning songs have traveled from leading folk festivals to desert honky-tonks with ease, offering moments that can bring both laughter and tears. Alicia Stockman draws from the same rugged Utah mountains, blending folk, blues, and Americana with intricate guitar work and vocals that are equal parts sultry and stirring. Influences like Jewel, the Indigo Girls, and Susan Tedeschi echo through her lyric-rich writing, which feels like stepping into a place you could linger. Together, these distinct voices promise a night of honest songs and meaningful connection that lingers after the final chord.

D.H. Lawrence in Taos: A Story in Three Acts with Kristen Hague

Presented by the Frank Waters Foundation and Lithic Books, this program at Lithic Bookstore offers a three part exploration of D. H. Lawrence’s years in Taos with scholar Kristen Hague. It traces the moment the British author and his wife, Frieda, arrived at the invitation of arts patron Mabel Dodge Luhan, following controversies surrounding The Rainbow and Women in Love, his elopement with Frieda, and his outspoken opposition to World War I that led to ostracism in Europe. In fragile health, Lawrence sought freedom and renewal in New Mexico, and between 1922 and 1925 Taos anchored his creative work and marked a turning point in his life. Hague examines the relationships that shaped this period along with the spiritual, literary, and social experiments that emerged, showing how the place stirred new directions in his writing and worldview. Hague is a Professor of English at Colorado Mesa University whose research focuses on nineteenth century British literature, and she maintains long standing ties to New Mexico through graduate study at the University of New Mexico and summers spent in Taos.

Levitation Room, Billy and the Dreamboats

The lineup brings together Levitation Room, Billy and the Dreamboats, and Forest Ray for a night of psychedelic textures, dreamy pop, and psych folk rock. Levitation Room, a Los Angeles quartet, pairs shimmering guitars and lo-fi inflections with reflective lyrics about life, love, society, and self-awareness, creating a buoyant, floating vibe. The group grew out of late night garage sessions between longtime friends Julian Porte and Gabriel Fernandez, later rounding out the rhythm section with two musicians who even shared nearly the same name. Early shows and recordings in East LA led to a self-made demo, momentum on Southern California stages, the 2015 EP Minds Of Our Own on Burger Records, and the 2016 full-length Ethos with help from keyboardist Glenn Brigman. Tours and festivals across the US and Europe followed, along with growing streams that include nearly two million plays for Friends, and work began on a second album that stretches into folk, jazz, raga, soul, and pop alongside their psych roots. Seattle’s Billy and the Dreamboats offer 1960s-tinged pop built on lush melodies and introspective writing, blending shoegaze atmospherics with indie pop clarity. They are on an album release tour supporting the forthcoming How Did You Get Here, showcasing new songs along with selections from their catalog. Forest Ray rounds out the bill with a guitar-forward sound that started as a recording project in 2015, fusing psych rock with garage, folk rock, and organ-rich pop, evolving into spacious yet down-to-earth rock and roll.

Western Colorado co-ed trail running camp

Spend a long weekend in Western Colorado’s wine country at a co-ed trail running camp designed for all levels. Over four days and three nights, local trail and ultra running coaches lead clinics, runs, and hikes across colorful desert terrain with routes through vast canyons, beneath towering monoliths, past hidden arches, and along sweeping vistas. Sample destinations include Colorado National Monument, Fruita, Loma, and the Grand Mesa. Participants can choose from longer or shorter outings and pacers support varied paces. Most days are active, and all activities are optional. The camp is based at Wine Country Inn in Palisade, a Victorian-style property set among 21 acres of working vineyards that produce a private label wine for guests. The inn sits a short ride from more than twenty wineries as well as nearby vineyards, orchards, and farms. The weekend includes three nights of lodging, all meals, transportation to daily adventures, guided and coached trail experiences, bike rental with tastings at three wineries, and a digital photo album, along with opportunities to connect with runners from many places. Coaching and education are a central focus, with sessions on running form and gait plus agility and footwork drills, power hiking techniques for steep or technical terrain and effective use of trekking poles, and ongoing Q&A with professional coaches. Recovery is built in through a pi-yo class, access to foam rollers and other self-massage and stretching tools, and a refreshing cold-water therapy dip in the Colorado River. A relaxed winery biking tour caps the weekend, with tastings for those who wish, options for non-drinkers, and time to pick up local produce, honey, and other items from area farmers and ranchers. The coaching team features Scott Jones, M.S., a lifelong coach and founder of Becoming Ultra who has produced camps and retreats for runners, and Lauren Jones, a trainer and coach for two decades with a background in exercise science, sports performance, pilates, and sports medicine and the founder of Life’s 2 Short Fitness. Pricing requires a $500 deposit. Single occupancy is $1850 and double occupancy is $1450 with two queen beds. Private and shared rooms are limited, and shared room pairings depend on registration numbers. L2S members receive a $50 discount on final retreat fees, and a monthly payment plan is available after the deposit. The camp and deposit are non-refundable, and travel insurance options will be shared in a follow-up email.

Redd and The Paper Flowers and more

Redd & the Paper Flowers headline a concert featuring an opening set from T&C Mining Co. Singer and songwriter Redd Daugherty launched her solo career during the 2020 pandemic while teaching English at L&N STEM Academy in Knoxville, Tennessee. She later appeared on the nineteenth season of American Idol, released her debut album Monsters & Mothers, left the classroom to pursue music full time, and began collaborating with mentor Adam Ivy. Through friends and open mics, she connected with Gavin Gregg, Katie Adams, and Colleen d'Alelio, and the group quickly began creating and performing together. Redd and fellow founder Gavin credit early momentum to former bassist Will Ross. The band name reflects that Redd also continues solo releases, and they introduced their first collaborative album in 2023. T&C Mining Co., the duo of Tori Miner and Cullen Purser, opens the show. Formed out of the Cavalcade Variety Show and performing together since 2022, they are currently working on their first album. Their music draws on Folk and Americana influences, with close harmonies and heartfelt songwriting.

At Clifton Branch Library, the Highland Rogues present an all-ages, high-energy pirate workshop that blends authentic maritime history, theatrical flair, hands-on learning, and action-packed demonstrations. Offered as part of the 2026 Mesa County Libraries Summer Reading Program, this experience sails from lively introductions and a spirited roll call into an exploration of shipboard life, covering crew roles, daily routines, health realities, and the truth behind treasure through interactive storytelling. Workshops & Classes

Free Cyber Safety Workshop

A free cyber safety workshop designed for kids and parents focuses on the realities of the online world children use every day, from games and chats to video platforms and social networks. It addresses how predators exploit the same spaces, how risky exchanges can seem harmless at first, and why many children delay telling an adult. The session is built to help families change that pattern with clear guidance and practical steps. Attendees learn how offenders target young users and what warning signs to watch for. The program highlights less obvious dangers within popular games such as Roblox, Minecraft, and Fortnite. Parents leave with simple tools they can put in place right away, conversation tips on what to say and what to avoid so a child feels safe opening up, and strategies for building trust so children come to them first. Capacity is limited to keep the workshop focused.

Children’s Summer Day Camp Week 3: Extinction and the Prehistoric World

Kids ages 8 to 12 can immerse themselves in the deep past at Dinosaur Journey Museum during a weeklong day camp centered on extinction, volcanoes, and Earth’s history. Participants investigate how powerful eruptions, moving continents, and changing climates shaped the age of dinosaurs and contributed to mass extinction events. Through hands-on experiments, volcano simulations, fossil exploration, and interactive activities, campers learn how scientists study rocks and fossils to piece together the story of our planet. Campers should wear sturdy shoes for walking and clothing suitable for outdoor play and crafts, arrive with sunscreen already applied, and bring a packed lunch, snacks, a drink, a water bottle, a hat, and sunglasses. A backpack is recommended and will be carried on days when the group cannot return to the classroom for lunch. The session costs $175 per child.
