Jonatha Brooke

Jonatha Brooke brings thoughtful lyrics and bold creativity to a folk-pop sound with the intimacy of chamber-like storytelling. Classically trained and equipped with a theater-ready voice and a novelist’s eye for character, she threads personal narratives through graceful, intricate melodies. From her beginnings with The Story to a celebrated solo career, her work invites comparisons to the emotional nuance of Joni Mitchell and the clever musicality of Stephen Sondheim, carried by a voice that can ache, shimmer, and lift within a single line. An artist across disciplines, she created the one-woman musical My Mother Has 4 Noses and has collaborated with Katy Perry, Joe Sample, and the late Woody Guthrie, setting Guthrie’s unpublished lyrics to music. Whether alone with a guitar under a single spotlight or shaping a richly arranged recording, she focuses on sculpting feeling and story that linger long after the last note.

Sun Jr.

Rooted in the legacy of early rock and roll, Sun Jr. blends blues and country into a style that nods to the classic Sun Records lineage while pulling from nearly a century of evolving influences. Hints of The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, and The Doors mingle with a modern spirit reminiscent of My Morning Jacket, Sturgill Simpson, and Wilco, creating music that feels familiar yet freshly their own. Guided by improvisation, the band favors spontaneity over rigid forms, weaving folk, Americana, and rock with swirling psychedelic colors for a mountain-tinged psych rock atmosphere. Pedal steel, banjo, electric guitar, bass-organ, and drums come together in a textured, expansive sound that can float through airy ballads, drift into moody surf vibes, or ignite with gritty, stomping grooves. Dual vocals from Jim Heekin and Matt Kubis offer a striking contrast and blend, pairing a deep, resonant grit with a luminous, haunting clarity to shape each song’s arc. Formed in 2013 and based in Boulder, Colorado, the group has carried this immersive approach to stages ranging from Mackey Auditorium to Big B’s Delicious Orchard, with notable appearances across theaters and clubs along the way.

Josiah and the Bonnevilles

An all-ages performance from Josiah and the Bonnevilles spotlights the distinctive songwriting of Josiah Leming, who carried his music from East Tennessee to stages across the country and built a loyal community along the way. After an early major label chapter, he chose the independent route and honored his fans by including them in his artist name. Known for unfiltered emotion and a powerful connection with audiences, he followed a streak of sold-out headline shows with international dates that underscored his global reach. His newest album, As Is, shifts more electric while preserving the vivid storytelling, precise imagery, and vulnerable vocals that define his work. Stepping back from the online noise, Leming wrote nearly a hundred songs, selected ten, and collaborated more than ever with writers such as Natalie Hemby, Joel Little, and Scott Harris. Teaming with co-producer Konrad Snyder allowed him to focus on performance in the studio, yielding tracks that often move with greater energy and explore themes of joy, sorrow, and working-class life. The collection ranges from the surging Good Boy and the feel-good Carolina Heart to the reflective Going Gone and the harmonica-laced Mountain Girl, with the single Hell Without the Flames highlighting some of his strongest lyrics and vocals. Raised in Morristown as one of nine siblings, Leming taught himself piano at eight and was writing by thirteen, roots that inform music grounded in empathy, pride in his Appalachian community, and everyday resilience.
