RRFF Thursday Evening Fly Casting Clinics

Build your fly casting confidence at hands-on clinics led by RRFF volunteer instructors. Beginners receive clear guidance on the fundamentals, and experienced anglers can refine advanced skills such as the double haul, working with shooting heads, making quick presentations for saltwater species, and spey techniques. Along the way, instructors answer common questions about tackle and gear, rod and line weights, basic setups, knot tying, fly selection, and fly tying for both freshwater and saltwater fishing. The teaching approach draws from Fly Fishers International and the Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club, incorporating the FFI Fly Casting Skills Development program and GGACC levels from beginning through advanced. These sessions are free, open to the public, and depend on the weather, with no casting practice held in the rain. Consistent practice is emphasized to develop the feel of the line loading the rod and to improve line control in real-world situations. For independent practice, the RRFF Casting Pond is open to everyone during regular Dan Galvin Park hours each day.

Postcards - Spring 2026 Concert Series in Occidental, CA

The Occidental Community Choir presents Postcards, a spring concert series shaped around connection, memory, and the moments that leave a lasting mark. Performances feature a wide range of locally created music alongside classical and contemporary choral works, plus poetry and spoken word drawn from its community among the redwoods of Northern California. Each selection acts like a musical postcard, a brief note from a particular time and place that carries stories of joy, longing, hope, and reflection. Some pieces feel bright and open, while others are touched by nostalgia. Together they suggest that life is measured not only by years but by the experiences we keep and the ones we share. Through song, the choir becomes both messenger and listener, offering voices as expressions of care, presence, and connection. The series honors the way small gestures... a postcard, a call, a simple message... can bridge distance and affirm a sense of belonging.

FIRST FRIDAY at FRIDA - Scott Laws Original Acoustic Songwriter- Santa Rosa, CA

Café Frida Gallery hosts a First Friday performance with S.R. Laws, also known as Scott Laws, presenting an acoustic set of original songs shaped by classic storytellers like John Hiatt, Lou Reed, Steve Earle, Neil Finn, and Ron Sexsmith. His sound blends an easy familiarity with fresh ideas, guided by narratives that feel personal and direct. Raised in Northern California, his love of music grew from digging through stacks of rescued 45s brought home from his father’s trash route, each record sparking new curiosity. He later headed to Texas with little more than a couple of bags and five hundred dollars to learn from Austin’s open mics and songwriter nights, then settled in Sonoma County where he continues to tour and write, fronting his original rock band, The Heartsleeves. Listeners and presenters often note his clear baritone voice, candid first person lyrics, and a relaxed Americana pulse that builds a slow, lingering fire.

The Trojan Women

Written by Euripides more than two millennia ago, this tragedy remains strikingly relevant as wars persist today. Set in the wake of Troy’s downfall, it turns away from battlefield heroics to examine what is left when the fighting ends. The story centers on the women who survive, mourning their losses, uprooted from home, and facing a future they cannot predict. Often cited as a foundational work of anti-war theater, it urges reflection on how conflict leaves deep marks not only on soldiers but also on those who must live with its consequences.

Petaluma River History Paddle

Discover how the Petaluma River shaped a community during a relaxed, two-hour guided kayak outing that begins at the docks of The Floathouse Petaluma. Glide through downtown as stories bring to life the river’s role as the region’s original transportation corridor, fueling local farms and industry, linking suppliers to San Francisco, supporting Gold Rush era trade, and connecting this place to markets far beyond. The tour was created by a guide who is both a former history teacher and an actor, blending careful research with engaging storytelling. Along the shoreline, costumed performers share first-person accounts from real residents of earlier days, including young egg workers, messengers, entrepreneurs, and other memorable figures who worked the waterfront. Many participants are surprised by how much they learn, and some return with friends for another experience. Stable sit-on-top kayaks keep the pace comfortable for beginners, and all equipment and instruction are included. The price is $75 per person, all inclusive. No prior paddling experience is required. Postcards - Spring 2026 Concert Series

The Occidental Community Choir presents Postcards, a spring concert series that traces a musical path through memory, connection, and the moments that shape our lives. Drawing on the choir’s tradition of live programs that blend locally composed music with classical and contemporary choral works, it also weaves in poetry and spoken word from the redwoods community of Northern California. Each selection is crafted like a postcard in sound, carrying snapshots of joy, longing, hope, and reflection. Some pieces glow with sunlit warmth while others bear the gentle wear of recollection, together forming a mosaic of experiences we hold and share. Through song, the ensemble becomes both sender and receiver, offering voices as messages of care and presence. The program highlights how small acts of reaching out can bridge distance and affirm that each person matters, is connected, and is not alone.

Smokehouse

Smokehouse is an organ-forward quartet born from a spontaneous moment of inspiration when four seasoned musicians heard Jimmy McGriff’s Rock Candy together and decided to build a band around that sound. Centered on the Hammond B3 and steeped in blues, soul, jazz, funk, and rock influences, the group brings the feel of classic groove music to life with original songs and deep-pocket interplay. Eamonn Flynn handles organ, vocals, and songwriting, drawing on experience that includes playing Hammond B3 and piano on the multi‑million–selling soundtrack to The Commitments and touring or recording worldwide with Michael Franti & Spearhead, Evelyn “Champagne” King, Pee Wee Ellis, Maria Muldaur, and Zigaboo Modeliste. Guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Anthony Paule leads the Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra featuring Willy Jordan, a project with seventeen BMA nominations and six albums, and he has worked with Boz Scaggs, Charlie Musselwhite, the Johnny Nocturne Band, Jackie Payne, Mark Hummel, Home Cookin’, Frank Bey, Wee Willie Walker, Maria Muldaur, and Van Morrison. On drums, vocals, and songwriting, Willy Jordan brings a background that spans blues, zydeco, rhythm and blues, soul, funk, rock, and jazz, with credits alongside Elvin Bishop, Charlie Musselwhite, Carlos Santana, and Motordude Zydeco, as well as touring and recording with John Lee Hooker from 1996 to 1998. His recording with Elvin Bishop’s Big Fun Trio earned two Grammy nominations, he duetted with John Németh on I Found A Love for the double BMA winning May Be The Last Time, and he serves as lead singer with the Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra. Bassist, vocalist, and songwriter Endre Tarczy is a Bay Area first call player who has collaborated with John Lee Hooker, Gregg Allman, Robben Ford, Chris Cain, and Coco Montoya. A frequent contributor at Greaseland Studios with producer Kid Andersen and the Greaseland All Stars, he appears on numerous releases including albums by Terry Hanck, Jackie Payne, Kid Andersen, and Diuna Greenleaf, and from 2018 to 2025 he held the bass chair in the Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra at festivals across the United States and Europe. Together, these four channel the spirit that sparked their formation into a tight, organ-centered sound that celebrates groove, songcraft, and the rich traditions of American roots music.

A Room in the Castle - Live Theatre at THE 222 / Healdsburg

Lauren Gunderson’s play reframes Hamlet through the perspectives of its women, following Ophelia, her caretaker, and the Queen of Denmark as they navigate class, circumstance, expectation, and desire within the castle. They begin by honoring the queen’s directive to obey, agree, and assist, then press beyond those confines to claim agency and envision a different ending. The piece remains in conversation with Shakespeare’s tragedy while centering the women and infusing their journeys with energy and purpose. DC TheaterArts has highlighted how completely these characters command the stage. This production features Luisa Sermol as Tatiana, Kennedy Dawson as Ophelia, and Leontyne Mbele Mbong as Gertrude, directed by Amy Kossow. Programmed by Aldo Billingslea and Amy Kossow. Secret Song Club presents Ryan Woodard, Ellie James & Nicco Weisskoff

Presented by Secret Song Club, this concert at The Lost Church - Santa Rosa marks the venue’s reopening and serves as a benefit for Redwood Empire Food Bank. Sonoma County artists Ryan Woodard, Nicco Weisskoff, and Ellie James, a three-time 2025 NorBay Award winner, will share the stage in a songwriter circle, swapping songs and stories throughout the evening. Ellie James blends lush indie pop with the grit of her rock and roll roots, using a mix of live instruments and electronic production to craft her sound. She has performed professionally around the world for more than a decade, opened twice for Grammy winner Colbie Caillat as well as Tim Flannery and David Luning, and played memorable sets at the Viper Room, San Francisco’s Cafe du Nord, and the Bose Listening Lounge in Kansas City. From 2023 to 2025 she earned the Bohemian’s NorBay Awards for Indie Artist, Singer-Songwriter, and Hardest Working Musician. With her sophomore EP, Favorite Stranger, and a nearly sold-out headlining show at Hopmonk, she heads into a season of new shows, new merch, and a new album slated for this summer. Ryan Woodard is a singer, songwriter, and multifaceted musician from Sonoma County who grew up in a musical family. Diagnosed with autism at three and considered nonverbal until nine, he found his voice through music. At 11 he shared the stage with blues icon Buddy Guy. His story has drawn international attention, including features in Guitar World and a gifted Martin guitar from John Mayer. Known for dynamic live performances, he continues to rise with ambitions that include multiple Grammys and appearances in major arenas worldwide. Nicco Weisskoff, a favorite in the North Bay music scene, writes melodic, soulful indie folk that recalls Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, and MJ Lenderman. Advance tickets are strongly recommended because the show is likely to sell out.

IN A LANDSCAPE: Jack London State Historic Park

The first of two performances at Jack London State Historic Park arrives as part of the 11th season of IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild. Pianist Hunter Noack performs on a 9 foot Steinway concert grand while audiences listen on wireless headphones and may wander, letting the surroundings become part of the experience. In this touring series across the American West, mountains, ancient forests, and sunny meadows often stand in for a traditional concert hall. Nestled among rolling oak woodlands and vineyards, the former home and working ranch of Jack London and Charmian Kittredge London offers a setting rich with history and imagination. Charmian, an accomplished writer and chronicler, played a key role in shaping the legacy seen today. This 1,565 acre landscape blends cultural history with natural beauty and is cared for by Jack London Park Partners, the first nonprofit entrusted with managing a California state park. Trails, exhibits, and expansive views over the Valley of the Moon await, along with the ruins of the dream house they planned and Charmian’s later residence, now a museum of their lives and travels. The park also honors the enduring presence of the Pomo, Coast Miwok, and Wappo peoples. Presented in partnership with Jack London Park Partners.

Sirsy (Indy Rock n Roll) on tour from NY. $10 at the door

Sirsy brings an indie rock and roll show on tour from New York, powered by a duo that sounds far bigger than their lineup suggests. The music blends rock drive with folk-like intimacy, catchy choruses, and personal storytelling. Vocalist and drummer Melanie Krahmer also works keys, piano, melodica, and flute, often handling bass parts while singing, and guitarist Rich Libutti layers textures with a well-loved Rickenbacker and vintage effects, adding pedal bass to complete the low end. The result is a rich, full-band feel created by just two performers. Formed in upstate New York in 2000, the pair has spent decades on the road, playing hundreds of shows each year and connecting with audiences through themes of resilience and empowerment. Their songs have landed on Shameless, the NFL, HBO, MTV, and PBS, and they are regularly heard on NPR. Recognition includes multiple Thomas Edison Music Awards, and the 2025 single Stupid Little Heart made a splash on the folk charts. Admission is $10 at the door.

An open air classical concert unfolds at Jack London State Historic Park, one of two performances at this storied site. IN A LANDSCAPE brings pianist Hunter Noack and a 9 foot Steinway concert grand into nature, with wireless headphones so each listener can roam and let the music accompany the surroundings. Now in its eleventh season, the series continues to swap the traditional hall for peaks, ancient forests, and sunlit meadows across the American West. Set among rolling oak woodlands and historic vineyards, the park was once the home and working ranch of author Jack London and Charmian Kittredge London, whose adventurous partnership helped shape the place visitors experience today. Charmian, a writer and chronicler, later lived in a residence that now serves as a museum of their lives and travels. This 1,565 acre landscape blends cultural history and natural beauty, offering trails, exhibits, broad Valley of the Moon views, and the evocative ruins of the Londons planned dream house. FIRST FRIDAY at FRIDA - Scott Laws Original Acoustic Songwriter- Santa Rosa, CA

Café Frida Gallery hosts S.R. Laws, an original songwriter sharing acoustic, story-rich songs that balance a sense of the familiar with ideas all his own. His writing reflects the narrative craft of artists like John Hiatt, Lou Reed, Steve Earle, Neil Finn and Ron Sexsmith, landing in a warm, roots-leaning style. His connection to music began in Northern California, sparked by stacks of discarded 45s he explored from his father’s trash route. That early curiosity led him to Texas with two suitcases and $500 to immerse himself in Austin’s open mics and songwriter nights. He now lives in Sonoma County, touring and creating new work as the singer and songwriter for his rock band, The Heartsleeves. The performance centers on plainspoken, first person storytelling, a relaxed Americana groove and a smooth baritone that is easy on the ears. Listeners and presenters frequently note his clear narratives, earnest lyrics and a slow-building energy that often keeps audiences staying for another song.

No RSVP is required, seating is available on a first come basis, and entry is limited by capacity. Ages and Ages is the group behind the album Fine Thanks and You, created in a time of global upheaval and personal loss and focused on the hidden inner worlds that sit beyond polite small talk. Songwriter and vocalist Tim Perry shapes reflections on agency and mortality into songs that sometimes took root in the sterile aisles of big box stores. Recorded at Trash Treasury and Friendly Ghost with producer Cameron Spies, the project reached its final shape with the addition of vocalist Mira Stanley, who has since joined the band permanently. Drawing on the poetry of Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés, the record aims to offer a beacon in shadowy times through vivid imagery and a sound that is inquisitive yet grounded.

Influences include John Hiatt, Lucinda Williams, Rodney Crowell, Neil Finn, Patty Griffin, Chuck Prophet, and Ron Sexsmith, whose work helped guide his creative path. His connection to music took root in Northern California, where he sifted through stacks of discarded 45s his father, a trash collector, brought home, turning each record into a small discovery. Eager to grow, he set out for Texas with $500 in the bank and two suitcases, diving into Austin’s open mics and songwriter gatherings to refine his craft.
