5Rhythms® Sacramento Wednesday Class @ CLARA

At The Auditorium at CLARA, explore 5Rhythms, the movement practice created by Gabrielle Roth and danced worldwide. The session invites you to travel through Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness with music as your guide rather than set choreography. There is no right or wrong way to participate. Simply let your feet begin to move and stay connected to your breath. Each rhythm offers its own kind of learning. As you move through these energetic states, you can cultivate a deeper connection with body, heart, mind, soul, and spirit. The room includes people with a wide range of experience, and every dance is different. Your movement might feel gentle or powerful, surprising or revealing, and over time the practice can be transformative. Classes typically include two waves with guidance. Music is available for warm up before the first wave, and the group gathers to close the session. Comfortable clothing is recommended, and barefoot dancing is preferred. The class takes place on a wood floor. Instruction is provided by Certified 5Rhythms Teachers Majica Alba or Bella Dreizler, with occasional visiting teachers. Pricing: single class drop-in $25, 10-class card $225, and a first-time 3-class pass for $50. Pay at the door with cash, Venmo, or PayPal.

Tasks range from intensive digging to remove large debris to lighter detail work on the flat floodplain. Bags are provided. Bring waders or rain boots if entering the water, along with sturdy mud-resistant footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves. A limited number of grabbers and buckets may be available to borrow. Entering the water is optional, but helpful in this area. This effort continues in partnership with creek steward Roland Brady, PhD, and Friends of Steelhead Creek. Not suitable for minors under 14. Ages 14 and older must remain under the supervision of a responsible adult for the entire event. Participation is at your own risk. Meditation & Dharma Talk with Dennis Warren (“Right” Effort in Meditation, Practice ..) Hybrid event

An evening of insight meditation and a Dharma talk led by SIM founding teacher Dennis Warren centers on the theme of Right Effort in meditation, practice, and daily life. The program opens with brief welcome announcements, continues with a period of sitting meditation, includes a short break, then moves into a talk with discussion before closing. Presented in a hybrid format, Dennis offers the teaching in person at the Dharma Center, and participation is available either on site or online. The exploration invites a close look at what Right Effort means, how it relates to Right Energy, why it is considered a foundation of Buddhist practice, and practical ways to apply it in meditation, other areas of practice, everyday routines, and relationships. It also considers how the quality of effort shapes whether practice is approached in a purely practical way or understood as spiritual or dharmic. The session is designed to be supportive for both newcomers and longtime practitioners. This offering is free to attend, with donations welcomed in support of the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Contributions may be tax deductible within applicable guidelines. Dennis Warren is the founding teacher of Sacramento Insight Meditation, a certified mindfulness teacher at the professional level, a graduate of MBSR and MBCT professional trainings, and a graduate of Spirit Rock’s Dharma leaders training. His background includes service as a volunteer clinical professor in mindfulness within a medical center pain medicine division, extensive participation in residential retreats, a sustained daily practice in the Theravadan Buddhist tradition, teaching in diverse settings, and leading month-long pilgrimages in Thailand, India, and Nepal.

False Flowers + The Green Door (SF) + The Spiral Electric (SF) + Pets

At Cafe Colonial, an all-ages bill spotlights four bands from Sacramento and San Francisco exploring the darker, fuzzier edges of rock. Sacramento’s False Flowers delivers shadowy post-punk with an atmospheric pull. San Francisco’s The Green Door, formed in 2008 by Mike Carnahan, Reese Abell, Vanessa Wolter, and Devin Triplett, grew from a film-and-art side project into a group that blends Spaghetti Western desert tones with the pulse of 1960s garage and acid rock, releasing a first full-length in 2011 and later albums Wolf in the Fold in 2017 and Dead Stock in 2025. The Spiral Electric, from San Francisco, channels moody psychedelia with vivid vocals, reverb-soaked guitar, dreamy keys, thundering bass, and rhythmic drive, noted by The Obelisk for bridging heavy psych with riff-forward rock. Sacramento duo Pets has been crafting reverby fuzz and noise-pop since 2003, sharing stages with national acts and, on the 2025 album Dig The Skull, amplifying fuzzed bass, echoing guitar, looped drum-machine beats, hand percussion, and layered vocals for a distinctly DIY punkgaze sound.

Mobile Farmers Market

North Sacramento will welcome a Mobile Farmers Market bringing fresh, locally grown produce. Supported by Councilmember Roger Dickinson in partnership with the Center for Land-Based Learning and Sierra Service Project, this rolling marketplace helps make fruits and vegetables affordable and convenient while connecting customers with the farmers who grow them. The program’s trucks serve food insecure neighborhoods across Yolo County, where a 2023 Yolo Food Bank report found that nearly one in three residents faces food insecurity. To lower barriers for low income shoppers, SNAP/EBT is accepted and Market Match provides a 50 percent discount that encourages the use of EBT dollars at local farmers markets. The market prioritizes culturally relevant crops, pays fair prices to small and beginning farms, and invites community participation to build a healthier, more equitable food system. Sixty percent of the produce is sourced within 25 miles and all within 100 miles. Outreach materials are available in Russian, Farsi, and Spanish. This market is held on the first and third Friday of each month.

Halfway 2 Yosemite

Organized by Sacramento Motorcycle Riders, this full-day group ride explores the Sierra Nevada on some of Northern California’s favorite motorcycling roads. The route covers roughly 280 miles, linking Highway 49, Highway 108, US-395, and Highway 88 for a blend of flowing sweepers, technical curves, and wide-open mountain scenery. The group sets out from Sacramento and heads to Angels Camp for fuel if needed, a quick stretch, and rider check-in in a historic Gold Rush setting. It continues to Cold Spring near Long Barn for a hydration break and preparation for higher elevation riding along the twists of Highway 108. Midway through, riders stop at Topaz Lake in Gardnerville for lunch, photos, and refueling with time to relax together. The ride concludes at Kennedy’s Pioneer Burgers in Pioneer, with food and conversation before everyone departs at their own pace. A beginner-friendly pace is planned with experienced riders present and multiple opportunities for rest and fuel. Participants are expected to start with a full tank, ride within their limits, avoid passing within the group, keep safe following distances, wear appropriate protective gear, stay hydrated at each stop, and respect local communities and speed limits.

There is no choreography to memorize. Let the music guide your body in ways that feel natural, begin by moving your feet, and bring attention to your breath. Each rhythm offers its own lessons, helping to deepen connection with body, heart, mind, soul, and spirit. Expect a mix of newcomers and seasoned practitioners, and know that every dance is unique. The experience may be subtle or strong, revealing and, with continued practice, transformative. Sessions usually include two waves with guidance, warmup music is available beforehand, and a closing circle brings the practice to a close. Wear comfortable clothing, and barefoot is preferred. Instruction is offered by Certified 5Rhythms Teachers Majica Alba or Bella Dreizler, with occasional visiting teachers. Mobile Farmers Market

Fresh, locally grown produce is rolling into North Sacramento with the Mobile Farmers Market, a program that brings sustainably raised fruits and vegetables directly into neighborhoods where access can be limited. Sponsored by Councilmember Roger Dickinson in collaboration with the Center for Land-Based Learning and Sierra Service Project, this traveling market creates a convenient, affordable way to shop while building connections between local growers and the community. The Mobile Farmers Market supports small and beginning farms, pays fair prices, and partners with growers to offer culturally relevant foods that can be hard to find in traditional stores. To lower both financial and physical barriers to healthy food, purchases can be made with SNAP/EBT, and Market Match provides a 50 percent discount for eligible customers. Information is available in Russian, Farsi, and Spanish to reflect the diversity of the communities served. Most offerings come from nearby farms. Roughly 60 percent is grown within 25 miles, and everything is sourced within 100 miles. The effort serves ethnically diverse, low income neighborhoods in Yolo County identified by the USDA as food insecure, responding to a report from Yolo Food Bank that nearly one in three county residents faces food insecurity.

Meditative, Daylong Retreat with Tony Bernhard - Hybrid

A daylong meditation retreat with SIM’s visiting teacher, Tony Bernhard, is offered in a hybrid format at Sacramento Dharma Center or online. The theme and detailed schedule will be announced. The program will include a presentation from the teacher, and attending in person is encouraged. Pre-registration is required. The registration fee is $25 per person and is due before the retreat begins. Those who wish to offer additional support may choose a $35 or $50 registration, and lack of funds will not prevent participation. Early registration helps indicate whether you plan to attend on site or via Zoom, which supports room planning. After registering, participants may offer dana to the teacher in appreciation. Tony Bernhard is a Buddhist chaplain and teacher who hosts study groups in Davis and has taught for dharma communities around the Bay Area and Central Valley for more than 25 years. Until the pandemic he served as a mental health counselor and chaplain for inmates at Folsom Prison. He spent over two decades with the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies coordinating continuing education for graduates of Spirit Rock’s Community Dharma Leaders programs, and he recently retired from the board of the Sati Center for Buddhist Studies in Redwood City after more than 20 years. His practice is non-traditional, shaped by his prison chaplaincy, extensive teaching, and study of the early Pali scriptures.

Men's Swap Society Clothing Swap at Sun & Soil in Sacramento

A relaxed, community-driven clothing exchange at Sun & Soil Health Company invites participants to trade gently used men’s apparel for new-to-you pieces while cutting down on fashion’s hidden footprint. Producing a single cotton T-shirt can use roughly 2,700 liters of water, close to what one person drinks over two to three years, so extending a garment’s life makes a difference. Bring clean, wearable men’s clothing you no longer need and trade for items brought by others. All sizes, styles, and genders are welcome, and women are welcome to swap on behalf of the men in their lives. Please bring only gently used items and a bag. For easier try-ons, consider wearing a fitted tank or shorts under your clothes. Entry works two ways. Purchase a ticket to exchange one item for one item, or become a Swap Society member to use a shopping pass that unlocks unlimited swapping at all locations along with additional perks. The Swap Society partners with The Beauty Boost Sacramento. Beauty Boost members receive free entry to their first swap and can access a discounted Swap Society membership at $15 per month. Swap Society members receive free access to their first Beauty Boost event with registration and 15 percent off Beauty Boost events, redeemable through the member portal. The flow is simple. The first portion is check-in and mingling, then swapping continues throughout with a wrap-up beginning near the end. Arriving on time offers the best selection. Leftover items are saved for future swaps or donated to WEAVE Inc. Previous swaps have contributed thirty nine pounds to WEAVE, helping keep clothing out of landfills and supporting people in need. WEAVE provides crisis intervention and works to promote safe, healthy relationships while advancing a community free of violence. Set within Sun & Soil Health Company, a community-focused wellness space in Sacramento devoted to sustainable living, nourishment, and connection, the setting complements a day of mindful swapping and conscious style.

Wax and DJ Hoppa: Highway Hotel Tour at Harlow's

Harlow's presents Wax and DJ Hoppa on the Highway Hotel Tour, an all ages show built on the creative spark that ignited when Hoppa joined as Wax's tour DJ in 2024. With a portable studio always close at hand, the pair turned life on the move into constant recording, shaping songs in hotel rooms, green rooms, and the backs of vans during long stretches across the United States and Canada. That momentum led to Highway Hotel, a road-born album that blends Hoppa's raw hip hop instincts with Wax's melodic range and eclectic lyricism, guided by a spontaneous approach that favored honest, in-the-moment ideas. The record features guest appearances from Little Stranger, G Love, K.A.A.N., Jarren Benton, Watsky, Jarv, Demrick, ¡Mayday!, Krysta Youngs, Damn Skippy, Kail Problems, Marley B, 1Ton, SUMPP, and Herbal T.

An Evening with The Greyboy Allstars at Harlow's

Harlow's presents an all ages evening with The Greyboy Allstars, a group that has helped define American groove music for more than three decades by blending jazz, soul, and funk with hip hop swagger and adventurous improvisation. Emerging from the 1990s San Diego scene, the band made its mark with West Coast Boogaloo, a debut created with funk icon Fred Wesley that powered the West Coast’s acid jazz and funk revival. They expanded that foundation on A Town Called Earth, weaving in cosmic jazz touches and cinematic textures. Both albums continue to influence modern groove culture, frequently sampled and referenced by DJs, beatmakers, and rising jazz artists around the world. The band continues to evolve with Grab Bag: 2007–2023, a compilation of previously unreleased tracks, deep cuts, and left-field gems recorded over the last fifteen years. Spanning tight rhythm workouts to spacey, organ-driven explorations, it highlights a group that remains inventive and deeply in the pocket. The lineup features saxophonist and flutist Karl Denson, whose fiery approach reflects the soul-jazz lineage of Sonny Rollins and the grit of Maceo Parker; he leads his own Tiny Universe and has long toured with The Rolling Stones. Keyboardist Robert Walter, a master of the Hammond B3, supplies deep grooves, rich harmonies, and fearless improvisation informed by acclaimed solo work and collaborations. Guitarist Michael Andrews, also known as Elgin Park, brings melodic focus inspired by Grant Green and Wes Montgomery and the perspective of a celebrated film composer with credits including Donnie Darko and Pharrel’s Piece by Piece. On bass, Chris Stillwell anchors the music with fluid, funky lines that fuse Motown depth with California cool, while drummer Aaron Redfield delivers nuance and power, from crisp breakbeats to expansive jazz interplay, driving the band’s ever-developing sound.
