Saturday 6/27 Workshop: Paint a Koi under Resin

Create a koi painting and finish it with a glossy resin coat at a hands-on workshop held at the Surf City Artisan Fair at Huntington Beach Pier Plaza. This experience welcomes adults and youth ages 12 and up, and space is limited. Koi are often viewed as symbols of luck and good fortune, making this a meaningful project to make or gift. Participants begin with a wood panel that is already prepped and primed, then trace the koi using provided stencils before adding color. A professional artist and experienced instructor will guide each step at a comfortable pace so beginners and seasoned painters can achieve strong results. After the painting is complete, there is a short break to stretch, grab a drink or snack, visit the artisan fair, or take in the ocean views while the resin station is prepared. The instructor then demonstrates how to mix and pour resin, sharing tips for a smooth finish. The artwork is covered with aluminum foil to protect it while the resin cures. The resin needs 24 hours to harden, so participants take the covered piece home, keep it level, and let it set before displaying it the next day. All materials are supplied, including the wood panel, acrylic paints, brushes, stencils, resin, mixing tools, gloves, and an apron, along with instruction. Wear clothes that can get a bit messy, bring water to sip, and consider a snack or money for food vendors. By the end, you will head home with a finished piece you made yourself.

After the main gathering, there will be a brief board meeting open to members. Pasta donations will be collected for Caterina's Club. Auditions for Take Me Out

Auditions are being held for Take Me Out, the acclaimed play by Richard Greenberg, directed by Martie Ramm, at Stage West Theater. The story follows Darren Lemming, the star center fielder of the championship New York Empires, who chooses to share that he is gay. What he expects to be straightforward honesty triggers deep reverberations in the clubhouse, revealing bias and straining the ties of friendship, loyalty, and trust. The drama balances sharp humor with poignant moments as the team navigates the arrival of a hot-tempered new pitcher and the unexpected support of an unlikely ally. Nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, the play offers a powerful look at authenticity, courage, and the costs that can come with telling the truth. 90s Rockshow brings a high-octane salute to the decade’s alternative, grunge, and rock anthems at The Lighthouse Huntington. The set pulls from favorites by Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Green Day, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, plus plenty of tunes made for singing along. Count on roaring guitars, powerhouse vocals, hit after hit, and a dance floor in constant motion. Whether these songs shaped your youth or you came to them later, the night celebrates the music that defined the 90s.

Auditions for The Elephant Man

Auditions are being held at Stage West Theater for Bernard Pomerance’s drama The Elephant Man, directed by Tom Amen. Set in 19th century London and inspired by the true story of Joseph Merrick, the play traces his journey from a brutal life in a back-alley sideshow to the care of physician Frederick Treves, who discovers the thoughtful and sensitive person behind Merrick’s severe deformities. As Merrick becomes a curiosity in fashionable circles, he continues to seek the basic respect of being regarded as fully human rather than a spectacle. The story explores exploitation, voyeurism, hypocrisy, dignity, compassion, and faith. Content advisory: the production contains brief adult nudity, language, and other mature situations, and is intended for mature audiences.
