Set among the vibrant flower fields and working landscape of Mellano Farm, this three day art atelier offers a small group of young artists an intimate, hands-on creative retreat. Each day blends thoughtful instruction with time outdoors, inviting participants to draw inspiration straight from the surroundings. Students experiment with a range of mediums, including oil pastels, watercolor, chalk, tempera, mixed media and classic craft projects, while building skills step by step. Lessons cover core elements of art such as line, shape, color, space and texture, and introduce art vocabulary and techniques in a supportive setting. The farm becomes a studio without walls. Artists sketch among the blooms, observe farm animals and create pieces shaped by what they see across the fields, bringing the landscape from farm to canvas. Beyond the easel, the experience weaves in simple farm activities like nature walks for creative discovery, farm inspired recipes and daily snacks, and hands-on moments that connect art with agriculture. Explore the essentials of 6‑count Lindy, also known as East Coast Swing, in a welcoming class designed for beginners. Each lesson starts with a refresher on foundational steps and technique, then builds into new choreography. No partner or prior dance experience is required, and partners rotate during class to encourage connection and social dancing. Instructor Mercedes Moore has been active in swing since the mid‑1990s. She became part of a vibrant Houston community in 1999 and soon moved into teaching and performing with a team dedicated to outreach through exhibitions and competitions. Her approach highlights connection, the quality that brings partner dancing to life. Classes take place in Studio 4 at the CCAE Studios, not in the Concert Hall or Center Theater. Entry via the Museum is not always available. For the most reliable route, use the Center’s main lot near the James A. Stone swimming pool, cross the footbridge to Grape Day Park, and enter through the green gate. The studio buildings are on the right, numbered from 4 down to 1, with Studio 4 as the first door on that side.

To keep the beach safe and enjoyable, glass containers and kegs are not allowed, drones are prohibited, and pets are not permitted except for service animals. Large or charcoal grills are not allowed, while small gas grills are okay. Only small, open-sided tents are permitted, and tents are not allowed east of the blue umbrellas. Lifeguards and first aid will be available. Keep an eye on personal items and avoid setting up in areas that may be reached by high tide. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, and review beach safety guidance before heading out. Civilians may attend when accompanied by authorized patrons in accordance with base access requirements. Parking will be offered only in designated areas with attendants directing vehicles. There will be no loading or unloading zones and no tram service, so wagons or similar gear haulers are encouraged. Accessible parking is limited near the boat basin and is available until full, and barracks parking is not authorized. Enjoy a day of beach fun and end the celebration with a fireworks display.

Yoga of Recovery offers an in depth training that weaves Ayurveda and Yoga with established recovery tools to support healing from addictions, eating disorders, and other self sabotaging patterns. Western perspectives such as neuroscience and the 12 Steps are brought together with Eastern practices to create a whole person path for mind, body, and spirit. Attend in person, watch live online, or learn by recording. By the end of the course, participants gain practical ways to bring Ayurvedic and yogic healing into their own lives and into the work they do with students and clients. Graduates are positioned to teach yoga in rehabilitation settings or to people in recovery from any addiction, and they are prepared to identify root causes and outline a holistic plan of care. Topics include the six foundational tenets that illuminate addictive tendencies, holistic views on the origins of disease, and moving from feeling stuck to stability through understanding the gunas. Training explores simple sense based techniques for emotional regulation, Bhakti Yoga to ease loneliness and emotional upheaval, and Karma Yoga as love in action. It also looks at the ripple effects of sustained self care, how behavioral health care guidance from Yoga and Ayurveda supports evolutionary change, and ways to lead community conversations about challenges and solutions. Science & Engineering Night

An interactive evening invites families to explore science and engineering through activity stations, live demonstrations, and plenty of hands on fun. Young learners can dive into automotive mechanics with Girlie Garage and practice coding with the League of Amazing Programmers. Robotics takes center stage with Magikids Robotics, and the Escondido Public Library leads chemistry explorations. The Escondido Fire Department shares fire safety know how. The San Diego History Center traces the evolution of technology. Fleet Science Center offers activities on brain and eye coordination, and ASML introduces microchips. Challenges also include engineering a catapult, investigating aerodynamics, and discovering the science of the senses, with additional activities planned. Extra creative experiments feature potion mixing, coding with a spell themed twist, and optical illusions presented by LKW STEM Foundation. Epic Eatz will be on site for quick bites. Now in its tenth year, the All Out VW Car Show welcomes Volkswagen enthusiasts and vehicles of every kind. Spectators can enjoy the show for free, while show car entries are $25 and include one pint of beer and a show logo T-shirt for the first 50 cars. Raffles and prizes will be happening throughout the event. Trophies will be awarded to first and second place in a wide range of classes, including early Bugs through 1957, later Bugs from 1958 on, Karmann Ghia, split window and bay window buses, Type 3 and Type 4, the VW Thing, water-cooled models and water-cooled Euro, plus off-road or buggy builds. A grand prize will recognize the best car in show. After the awards, a cruise to the Oceanside Strand is planned, with more details to come. There is no early registration. This monthly social ride begins and finishes at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters in Bressi Ranch. Expect a conversational two-by-two pace and a friendly mix of newer riders alongside long-standing members. The planned route is about 34 miles with roughly 1,540 feet of climbing. For safety, the group will split into smaller clusters on the San Luis Rey bike path. Please know the course ahead of time or load it to your GPS bike computer. There are regroup points, but it is not a no-drop ride. Coffee and a pastry are covered by the club for riders wearing the Swami’s kit.

Young athletes can take part in a new Olympic camp at SwiftKick Carlsbad Studio that blends playful games with targeted drills to elevate overall athletic ability. The program focuses on the core physical foundations that support success in every sport, building quickness, stamina, and confident movement. This half-day experience is designed for ages 6 to 11 and is suitable for all skill levels. Participants will learn sound stretching habits to improve flexibility, sharpen agility and foot speed, deepen somatic awareness and understanding of how their bodies move, develop cardio endurance, and increase strength across the upper body, legs, and core.

Whacky Water Camp: Splish, Splash & Laugh!

Kids can cool off at a water-themed camp filled with outdoor activities and creative projects. Participants take part in relay races, sponge tag, water balloon challenges, and a large water slide, then use water as a medium to create unique art. The experience also includes time with farm animals with opportunities to learn about them, along with energetic group games to keep everyone moving. Families should pack a swimsuit, towel, water shoes, a packed lunch, and a water bottle. An optional hour of after-care is available for an additional $20 per day. This camp is designed for children who love water, laughter, and making new friends.

Hidden City Sounds: Bill Magee Blues Band with Special Guests Anthony Cullins Trio

Renowned San Diego blues artist Bill Magee brings his New York and Chicago inspired sound to the stage, delivering performances that are electrifying, soulful, and rooted in the traditions of the greats. The award-winning bandleader has been voted Best Blues Band by the San Diego Music Association and by Reader Magazine. Early in his career he performed in Jimmy James and the Flames with a young Jimi Hendrix, and his path has included the Apollo Theater and appearances alongside B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Otis Redding, and James Brown. After stepping away from touring to raise his family, he returned to San Diego and continues to energize the local scene with masterful guitar work and a strong connection with audiences. Special guests the Anthony Cullins Trio bring a blend of R&B, funk, soul, rock, jazz, and blues. Guitarist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Anthony Cullins of Fallbrook draws on influences from Eddie Hazel and Jeff Beck to George Benson and Eric Johnson, shaping an eclectic improvisational style he calls psychedelic soul music. Returning for its fifth year, the North vs South Acorn Tournament brings match play competition to The Vineyards at Escondido Golf Course. The field is limited to 32 players with consecutive tee times. Entrants must have a verified handicap, and prospective players are asked to send a private message that includes a phone number, email, assigned handicap number, and current handicap. The entry fee is $115 per person and is prepaid. The fee covers golf and cart, a swag bag, and a hat. On-course contests include closest to the pin and longest drive, each offering cash payouts. Team colors are set, with North in red and South in navy blue. The North Captain is Robert Carr, and the South Captain will be announced. Payment can be sent to Robert Carr by Zelle at 858-204-3550 or by Venmo at @Robert- Carr-1075. Payment must be received by the stated deadline, with no refunds after the cancellation cutoff.
