Kindermusic Classes

This 45-minute Kindermusic class welcomes children ages 1 to 5 into music through playful exploration with puppets, simple instruments, songs, movement, games, and early notation. Sessions run in eight-week blocks at $80 per child, with new material each time so families can continue from one series to the next. Children strengthen body awareness, coordination, and fine motor skills while building social and emotional growth, memory, confidence, and self-esteem in a supportive setting with their caregivers. Activities encourage creative expression and sustained attention, fostering a growing curiosity to listen and learn. The program supports early language and reading readiness by engaging the shared pathways between speech and music, using rhymes, word play, careful listening, and vocal exploration across high and low patterns. Moving to music stimulates neural pathways and heightens attention to patterns, which helps develop phonological awareness. Focused listening and active participation provide a strong foundation for skills that support success in school.

Reiki Training Level 2 (May 2-3)

This practitioner training builds on Level 1 and is designed for those ready to deepen their connection with Reiki and broaden how they work with energy. It takes place over two half-day sessions that combine instruction, discussion, and hands-on practice to help you work with clarity and confidence. In the first session, you will be introduced to traditional Reiki symbols and mantras, learn how they can focus intention, support emotional and mental healing, and be used to offer Reiki across distance. The session also touches on how client sessions can evolve at this stage, professional considerations, and ways to strengthen intuition and energetic awareness. The second session emphasizes application and integration. Participants receive the Level 2 attunement, practice using the symbols in partner exchanges, send Reiki from a distance, and explore approaches that support emotional and mental balance while receiving feedback and support. By the end, you can apply Level 2 tools more intentionally and may choose to offer sessions to others in a professional setting. The training includes the attunement, instruction in the traditional symbols and their uses, distance Reiki methods, guided practice, course materials, and a certificate of completion. Trash-a-Thon

Hosted by the Stilwell Academic Foundation, this Trash-A-Thon is a community cleanup in the West End of Sierra Vista that pairs neighborhood care with student support. Families, students, local businesses, and community members work together to clear litter and raise funds for scholarships at Stilwell’s Learning Centers. The effort seeks to raise $5,000 to provide summer learning opportunities for five students, helping them build strong foundations, confidence, and lifelong skills. Participation can take many forms, including volunteering as an individual, with a family, or as a team, involving classrooms or coworkers, sponsoring a student, pledging per bag or pound of trash collected, or contributing as a community sponsor. Each bag collected and each contribution brings the goal closer and helps students grow and thrive through learning opportunities centered on student involvement and benefit. Faro Demonstrations

At Tombstone Courthouse, an educational and interactive demonstration brings the Wild West game of Faro to life through hands-on play with enthusiastic, well-informed volunteers. Keep a close watch on the cards, since Faro was notorious for cheating dealers and the presentation preserves that piece of history. Play your cards well and you may receive a commemorative America250 Arizona Faro chip celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary, available in limited quantities. Sessions are offered on Sundays, with demonstrations led by George Howison on first and third Sundays and by Steve Kokx on second and fourth Sundays. There is no extra charge beyond park admission. The activity is strictly educational, and wagering real money is not permitted. This program is part of Outdoors250, a celebration of America’s 250th anniversary and Arizona’s natural heritage, and participants can enter to win Outdoors250 prizes. The experience also explores Faro’s remarkable history. The game flourished in gambling halls across the American West for nearly ninety years and was so widespread that about 150 venues in Washington, D.C. offered it during the Civil War. As construction began on what is now Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park, a study by the New York Police Gazette estimated that Faro outpaced all other forms of gambling combined. In Tombstone’s heyday it appeared in saloons large and small, and even Wyatt Earp dealt Faro for a short time at the Oriental Saloon.

Snake Avoidance Training

Teach your dog to steer clear of rattlesnakes with a focused avoidance program that builds reliable recognition and retreat. Dogs are carefully introduced to the look, sound, and smell of live venomous rattlesnakes, which are fitted with safety muzzles, so they learn to identify and avoid them in the future. A trained animal expert provides the snakes, and Jill Cruz works directly with each dog throughout the process. An electronic collar is used as part of the training. Dogs must be at least six months old. If your dog has medical concerns such as heart issues or a history of seizures, consult your veterinarian before registering. Each group begins with a brief overview and time for questions, followed by individual sessions for each dog. The cost is $125 per dog. To register or ask questions, call Jill Cruz at 832-216-5875.

Faro Demonstrations

Explore the Wild West’s favorite card game with an educational, hands-on demonstration at Tombstone Courthouse. Volunteers explain the rules of faro and offer interactive play so visitors can learn by doing. Keep a sharp eye on the cards, as the presentation playfully nods to the game’s reputation for dealer trickery. The activity is included with paid park admission. Participants may receive a commemorative America250 Arizona faro chip, while supplies last, in celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary. Demonstrations are for educational purposes only, and wagering real money is not allowed. This program is part of Outdoors250, a celebration of America’s 250th anniversary and Arizona’s natural heritage. Faro once dominated gambling halls across the American West for roughly 90 years, was available in 150 locations in Washington, D.C., during the Civil War, and was a fixture in Tombstone saloons large and small. As construction began on what would become Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park, a New York Police Gazette study estimated that faro surpassed all other forms of gambling. Frontier lawman Wyatt Earp even dealt the game for a short time at the Oriental Saloon.

100 Western Women

Jan Cleere discusses the women who helped shape Arizona, drawing on more than a decade of profiles from her monthly Arizona Daily Star column, Western Women. Those stories have been gathered in her new book, 100 Western Women: the Bold, Brave, Gutsy Women of Arizona’s Past. The talk focuses on the grit and contributions of figures from across the state. It also notes local history, including John and Ila Healey, residents of the meadow below Carr House from 1936 to 1972. Ila was remembered in Carr Canyon for capturing a live mountain lion and packing it to the ranch tied behind her saddle, while the horse’s reaction went unrecorded.
