A darkly playful celebration of motherhood unfolds at Rocket Space Gallery at Danelle Plaza, where art, sweets, and shopping come together with a wicked twist. Sponsored by Spooky Swirls, the event blends a macabre market with a deliberately grotesque dessert competition and a fundraising focus on the sweet yet sinister side of the matriarch. The stage program spotlights tributes to iconic goth, alternative, and horror mothers, honoring powerful matriarch figures, with only a few featured artist spots available. Guests can browse independent alt and horror vendors for gifts suited to a mother figure, with giveaways happening throughout the event. All proceeds support the Tempe Arts and Music Coalition, which works to remove financial barriers and offer free space so emerging and established creatives can share their work without limits. CAF Airbase ArizonaFlash Without Fear – Mastering Your On-Camera Flash
Take the guesswork out of on-camera flash with a hands-on workshop that turns inconsistent results into confident control. If you already understand aperture, shutter speed, and ISO yet still rely on TTL and hope for the best, this class shows how to shape light with intention and think with a professional mindset. Designed for beginners through intermediates who know the basics of exposure and want to stop shooting on auto, it is not intended for absolute newcomers who have not learned exposure fundamentals. Through step-by-step instruction in a small group limited to seven photographers, you will practice with a live model and receive real-time coaching and personal feedback. You will shoot, adjust, and repeat until the concepts click, leaving with a well-balanced flash portrait made with your own gear. By the end, you will know how to balance ambient light with flash, set and refine flash power deliberately, bounce light for soft and natural indoor results, avoid the harsh straight-on look, match color with gels, and create a properly exposed portrait. These skills translate directly to events, indoor sessions, and low-light situations so you can walk into challenging environments with confidence. Cost is $65. Please bring a DSLR or mirrorless camera, a charged battery, a memory card, and an on-camera flash. If there are no paid registrations by the Friday before the class, it will be canceled.

Canning Series - Start Date
Explore the craft and science of home canning in a hands-on, six-week series created for beginners and curious cooks. Each class builds confidence as you progress from recipes using liquid and powdered pectins to long-boil methods, while clarifying the differences between jams, jellies, preserves, and marmalades. The menu spans a flavorful range, including lemon ginger marmalade, a smoky barbecue sauce, tomato-based pasta sauces, and a bright lemon caponata. Later sessions shift toward stocking a thoughtful pantry and preparing jars that make excellent gifts, such as cranberry orange chutney suited for the holiday season and a hot and sweet chili sauce that pairs well with seafood and Asian-inspired dishes. Every week features two carefully tested recipes tied to the day’s objectives and typically yields about six half-pint jars, so participants leave with both new skills and tasty results. The series concludes with fresh salsas and relishes that showcase vegetables and offer versatile uses in everyday meals.
