The Cowboy President: The American West and the Making of Theodore Roosevelt earned Best Political Biography from True West Magazine and received the Will Rogers Gold Medallion Award for Best Biography or Memoir, followed by Go West, Mr. President: Theodore Roosevelt’s 1903 Great Loop Tour. In the roadside safety and emergency preparedness session, students gain practical know-how for common breakdown situations, including what to do when a car stops running, how to perform pre-trip safety checks, the right way to jump-start a vehicle, changing a flat tire and locating proper jack points, interpreting dashboard warning lights, assembling a roadside emergency kit, communicating clearly with repair shops and towing services, and staying safe while waiting for help. No prior automotive experience is needed and the workshop is recommended for ages 12 and up. Instruction is led by Keith Elsner. A Protecting Pronghorns display created by the Central Arizona Wildlife Alliance will fill the lobby of the Natural History Institute for two months. The exhibit explores how pronghorns got their name, how fast they can run, and current conservation efforts, including the new wildlife crossing over Interstate 17. During the opening as part of the 4th Friday Art Walk, CAWA members will share information about their work with pronghorns and other local wildlife, along with details on field outings, volunteer projects, and a wildlife survey app for recording sightings. After the opening, the display can be viewed during regular visiting hours at the institute. Previously shown at the Prescott Library Viewerie, this presentation highlights a notable Yavapai County resident often described as the spirit of the grasslands.
