SCOTCH DOUBLES CASH LEAGUE

A scotch doubles cash league at Tony’s invites teams to compete in a flexible, player-driven format. Enter with a partner or request help being matched, and note that space is limited to ten teams. Each match starts with a lag, and the lag winner selects 8-ball, 9-ball, or 10-ball. Races are handicapped using FargoRate Hot race charts, and play follows BCA rules with a required lag. Participants help shape the season by voting on details such as a 10-week session or a five-week double-play option, sidepot amount and whether payouts are winner-take-all or broader distributions like 25 percent of the field, scoring by points or win loss, and whether coaching is allowed. Practice is welcome at any time, and matches can be played early when arranged by both teams, which supports a true flex-league experience. UBSL aims to keep competition fair so players of any skill level can contend, balancing handicaps as closely as possible. There are no membership or sanctioning fees, and the league does not feed into national qualifiers or focus on patches or a single grand prize unless participants choose otherwise. Every session includes personalized awards for all players, cash payouts set by group preference, a league-funded private tournament, catered awards gatherings, and occasional extras like pizza nights, free greens, raffles, and giveaways. The atmosphere prioritizes good sportsmanship, welcomes both social players and serious competitors, and centers on playing for cash and bragging rights in a setting designed around when players can play.

Waiting for Godot

In this production of Waiting for Godot, the ease of seeing what others should do collides with the uncertainty people feel in their own predicaments, when they fall silent or simply wait for change. The play holds up a mirror to that impulse and asks where action ends and inaction begins. Counted among the great works of theatre, it was written by Samuel Beckett, who received the Nobel Prize yet kept his distance from the fame that followed. He did not attend the ceremony in Stockholm, and his wife described the award as a catastrophe. True to its author’s reserve, this is not a show that clamors for attention, yet its challenge is direct and personal.

Torneo de Belleza

Torneo de Belleza returns to the Barony of Granite Mountain in Atenveldt with a full day of pageantry and martial prowess at Watson Lake Park. Armored combat and rapier fighters will vie for honor and the distinction of becoming Granite Mountain’s next Dama de Belleza and Defensor de la Rosa. Both the hard-suit and rapier tournaments are planned as double elimination. Standard weapon options are set for each field, including sword and shield or two-sword for hard suit, and for rapier the traditional combinations of single rapier, rapier with dagger, buckler, cloak, or a playful secondary. Formats and weapon details remain under discussion and may be updated. Roses, Landed Baronesses, and Mistresses of any Peerage are invited to sponsor a fighter, and they may also enlist a member of the populace as a co-sponsor to help rally and encourage their chosen defender. Exchanging tokens between fighters and sponsors is encouraged as part of the day’s ceremony and camaraderie. A rose-themed food competition will celebrate culinary creativity inspired by the event’s namesake. Staking is not permitted at the park, so shade plans should avoid the use of stakes. Admission is set at $20 for adult members, or $25 at the gate, and $30 for adult non-members, or $35 at the gate. Youth under 18 attend free. An adult must complete registration for any youth, and individuals 17 and under may not register themselves. Refunds may be requested and are subject to a $1 non-refundable charge, with approved refunds issued by mailed check and requests requiring a physical mailing address. Questions can be directed to the event stewards.
