Violent Vira

Phenomenon Concerts presents Violent Vira at the historic Orpheum Theater in downtown Flagstaff. This all-ages performance centers on a haunting narrative about a young woman abandoned by her lover and cast out by her small religious town for refusing to accept that he fled a deadly crime. She traces the last signal from his phone to a scene marked by caution tape and a chalk outline. Grief fractures her sense of reality, drawing her back to search for clues, where she encounters a silent ghost at the place it all unfolded. The story grapples with whether she will accept the truth of a homicide or be consumed by an illusion that refuses to let go. A limited-quantity VIP meet and greet is available and includes a VIP lanyard, early access to the venue and merch booth, a photo with Violent Vira, and two small merch items with a bag. The Orpheum Theater is an indoor historic venue in downtown Flagstaff. Parking is not available on site. Tickets are the same price at the box office and online. A full bar is available and concessions are offered. Outside food and beverages are not permitted. Empty, soft, clear water bottles are allowed, while hydro flasks, metal, and hard plastic bottles are not permitted. Unless specifically stated by the show, there is a strict no re-entry policy. The theater enforces a clear bag policy that allows clear stadium bags up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches or a gallon-sized clear zip bag. Permitted non-clear bags include wristlets up to 4 by 6 by 1 inches and diaper or medical bags, which are subject to search. Other bags are not allowed and storage is not available. Clear bags are available for purchase.

Transonic Communities Three-Day Workshop

Experience a three-day workshop that explores how sound links people and places, guided by ARTx keynote presenter Guillermo Galindo. Through attentive listening, voice exploration, and movement, participants practice sensing and shaping resonance together. The process builds toward a public sharing, where the textures created through collective interaction can be heard. Attendees can expect to leave more attuned to their acoustic surroundings, more confident in their own voice, and more aware of sound as a medium for human connection. Participation in all three sessions is expected so the experience can develop from start to finish. Galindo brings a wide-ranging practice to this work. Trained as a classical composer of symphonies and operas, he reimagines sound as a living, generative force informed by shamanic traditions, Mesoamerican cosmology, and animist perspectives. His art investigates the edges where one realm meets another, including geographic, political, psychological, biological, and gendered boundaries. A 2024 Guggenheim Fellow, his work resides in the collections of LACMA, the de Young, Crystal Bridges, and the National Gallery, and he teaches at California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Projects such as Sonic Botany, Sonic Biogenesis, Genomics and Mutant Jungles, and Ruido Negro reflect his fusion of visual and sonic thinking, pairing graphic notation with interactive soundscapes and examining thresholds between species, the organic and the synthetic, and the persistence of the human presence on the planet.

Trash Panda Community Market

A new community market is launching at the events area of Pine Forest Charter in Flagstaff, creating a simple way to host a mini yard sale, art booth, or resale rack. For a $5 contribution, participants can set up a table, and that donation supports Pine Forest Charter School. The market is designed with renters in mind, especially those in apartments without yards or with restrictions on yard sales, and it offers a friendly space to earn a little cash while giving pre-loved items another life instead of sending them to the landfill. Bring clothing, handmade pieces, unique finds, and anything that might be perfect for someone else. Everyone is asked to follow a few easy guidelines that keep the space welcoming for all: pack in and pack out, pick up litter if you spot it, leave the area better than you found it, and show respect for the space, the people, and the mission. If you have ever wished for an easy way to hold a yard sale, this market makes it possible while giving back to a local school.

Route 66 to the Grand Canyon

A spirited salute to a century of roadside adventure and American spirit unfolds as a magical comedy that blends a play with interactive moments. When Ruth’s car gives out just beyond Flagstaff, a detour turns surprising as Mother Road, a mischievous, mystical embodiment of Route 66, sprinkles some road dust and sweeps her through the heart of Northern Arizona. Along the way, Ruth meets James, a tow truck mechanic whose canyon-sized dreams come paired with a steady stream of jokes. Guided by the flavor of British seaside end of the pier traditions, this play-within-a-play serves up groan-worthy puns, delightfully outsized characters, and laugh-filled scenes for audiences of all ages. The Heavy Heavy

The Orpheum presents The Heavy Heavy with Lou Hazel at the historic Orpheum Theater. The Heavy Heavy, a UK-based band, is known for a soulful, classic-leaning rock and roll sound. Early tracks from their debut EP, Life and Life Only, including Miles and Miles and Go Down River, reached AAA radio’s upper ranks and led to sold-out headline dates in major cities such as New York and Chicago, as well as support slots with Black Pumas and Band of Horses. Their first full-length album, One Of A Kind, builds on that momentum and invites listeners further into their vivid, retro-tinged style, drawing comparisons to artists like Jefferson Airplane, The Band, and The Mamas and the Papas. Lou Hazel opens with spare, lyric-focused folk shaped by Northern Appalachian roots and a Durham, North Carolina grounding, with the recent release Riot of the Red exploring the path from restlessness to calm. This is an all ages event at an indoor, historic venue. Parking is not available on site. Tickets cost the same at the box office and online. This bird walk explores Meteor Crater RV Park and other I-40 migrant traps near Flagstaff, compact green pockets that draw migrating birds across otherwise treeless stretches. The RV park has a long record of turning up unusual species, with past sightings that include Eastern Kingbird, Varied Thrush, Cassin’s Sparrow, and additional vagrant species. Meet on the north side of the Harkins theater parking lot to consolidate vehicles, then caravan to the sites. Plan for plenty of driving and about a mile on foot. Most walking is level, with a few uneven spots around PJ Oasis, and conditions can be hot. Suggested items include binoculars, a camera, a scope, water, a hat, sturdy walking shoes, sunscreen, and layers for comfort, with hiking poles if off trail terrain feels unsteady, especially near PJ Oasis. Birders are asked to check in at the RV park office before heading out, and restrooms are available inside the store. Optional registration is used to share updates such as cancellations, delays, or weather changes. With the only irrigated trees for miles around, surprise visitors are always a possibility.

Feel the Beat - FEATURING "School of Rock"

Enjoy a free, all-ages screening of “School of Rock,” presented as part of a family summer film series from Nackard Pepsi. Centered on the Feel the Beat theme, the program explores how music and storytelling can inspire creativity and bring people together, with local voices sharing perspectives on music, film, and the arts. The movie follows Dewey Finn, a sidelined rocker who takes a substitute teaching job and transforms his students into a band. Seating is general admission and no advance RSVP or tickets are required. Guests under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and cannot be dropped off. Concessions are available and outside food or drink is not permitted; metal water bottles are not allowed, though empty, soft, clear water bottles may be brought in. A clear bag policy applies, allowing only transparent bags or very small wristlets, with diaper and medical bags subject to search and no bag storage available. The venue offers a full bar, typically enforces a no re-entry policy, and does not provide on-site parking. Pepsi Snack Packs will be available for families.
